Gray Grass

I played the game a bit in mid-November, and I found a goodbye letter from Maddie in the mail.

My buddy Hank had a quiz for me: He asked me if he worked out that day. He’s a jock, so I was pretty sure the answer was yes…and I was right. As my prize, he gave me a pitfall. It’s always good to have a pitfall or two on hand, and I was all out of stock. 😛

Hank: Here you go! This thing is really rare, so you better take good care of it, buhk buhk!

Since I was still wearing my patched shirt from a Halloween incident, I bought a fresh shirt at Nookington’s and changed into it. I later dropped off the patched shirt in the dump.

Timmy: That would be a fresh shirt you're looking at.

Over in acre B-1, I found Forest’s newest resident: Cheri the peppy bear cub.

Cheri: Hey, how's the evening air treating you? Nice?

She’s cute, and I was glad to have her around. But unfortunately, when I played again today (November 29th), she had already moved out. The good news is that I like her replacement too. It’s Cookie!

Cookie: Pleasant evening, isn't it? I'm Cookie!

As you can see, the grass is now a dark gray. I believe this is the last grass color change until the snow arrives on December 10th.

Static tried to sell me a peach for 840 bells. That’s a foreign fruit, so that’s not a bad deal…if you don’t already have many peach trees in town. But I didn’t need it, so I declined the offer. Of course, that angered Static, and he (once again) called me a cheap, no-fruit-buying bum. 😛

Static: What do you mean, you don't want it?! What's wrong with you?

Baabara accused me of wearing the same clothes all the time.

Baabara: What do you do when you have to wash your clothes?! Do you stay inside all day? Do you go out...indecent?

But that was just the start of her sales pitch. (She should have her own infomercials!) She told me she would list five shirts at various prices, and I was forced to buy one of them. The first one was a U R here shirt for 720 bells.

Baabara: And so, without further ado, here's the first one. A U R here shirt for 720 bells!

I declined, but I later found out that I should have bought it. Because the other shirts were all at least twice that price. I ended up being stuck with a spade shirt for 1,470 bells. I was actually somewhat lucky, because that was the 2nd-lowest priced shirt she offered. I still hate forced purchases, though.

Happy holidays, everyone! See you next time!

A Taste of Halloween

Yesterday, I received Pinky’s goodbye letter in the mail. She didn’t stick around long, but that’s fine by me.

Candi told me that she recently visited Katrina the fortune teller. Everything Katrina said came true, so Candi was convinced Katrina could see through time…in her ears. 😀

Candi: It's like she can see through time, in my ears!

At Nookington’s, I bought up all five pieces of candy…and a froggy chair.

Tommy: Does a froggy chair interest you? ...you?
Yes, it does.

I met my newest neighbor, Maddie the dog. She seems nice, and she lives up on the southeast cliff, next to Maple. That’s the spot where Hank originally lived.

Maddie: Oh, really? Well, I'm super stoked to meet you, too! You seem nice enough, so let's be friends!

Belle tried tricking me into thinking she was Saharah. She wanted to sell me some carpet, but I declined the offer.

Belle: How did you know I wasn't Saharah, in a tutu?

I’m not sure what was happening at the wishing well, but Baabara, Kody, and Static were all walking around depressed.

Static: Oh, what a train wreck! I can't believe this..

K.K. Slider was hanging out at the train station, so I stopped to check out his show. He performed K.K. Lament for me.

I played again today, and it was raffle day at Nookington’s. Here you can see Nook’s prizes: a NES game, an ivory piano, and a robo-stereo. But I only had one raffle ticket, and you need five of them to enter the drawing, so I was out of luck.

At 6:00, the Halloween festivities started. I was quickly reminded how ruthless villagers can be during Halloween. They ambushed me and took my candy; my first three pieces were gone in practically no time. So I knew I had to move my candy to letters, and just let the other villagers do their worst.

Belle: Ha-ha! See what happens when you don't share, in a tutu?

My clothes were ruined, but I eventually found Jack, the czar of Halloween himself.

Jack: Trick or treat!

I gave him a piece of candy, and he gave me a spooky carpet in return. I later found him again, and he gave me the same reward. At that point, I was out of candy and I had other Animal Crossing games to play, so I called it quits for the night on GameCube.

I only had a small taste of Halloween in this game this year, but that small taste was enough. This is the most frustrating version of the Halloween event in the Animal Crossing series, by a wide margin. But whichever games(s) you played, I hope you had a great Halloween! 🎃

Playing Along

Hello again. I missed out on the great fishing at the beginning of the month, but the September entry is here at last. 😛 Bubbles the hippo has popped out of town, and I received her goodbye letter in the mail today.

To Jeff, I'm leaving town, and I'm not telling anyone where I'm going, but don't you worry! I'm off on a grand adventure that's totally going to rule! Wish me luck in my new life. Don't forget me! -Bubbles!

It was raining in town tonight, and Candi was being unusually nice. She gave me a free No. 1 shirt, and she said the smile on my face was worth a million bells. That was almost enough to make me start liking her. Almost. 😛

Candi: It feels SO super good to give something to a friend! That smile on your face is like a million bells!

Puck told me that he was once a skating phenom. I played along and said that I believed him, and he laughed about being able to fool me. He said he’s lucky just to be able to tie his own shoes. 😛

Puck: Dude, I'm just happy to be able to tie my own shoes!

Pinky the panda bear just moved into town today, and this is the first mention of her in this blog. So she hasn’t lived here in the past ten years, although there’s still a decent chance she lived here before that. (I didn’t keep track of all my villagers prior to starting the blog, but I’m sure I’ve had nearly all of the villagers in the game at this point.)

Pinky: Good evening! You seem kinda lost to me... Do you live in this town, cubbie?

My good buddy Hank was excited about the start of autumn. He loves the fall events, including the sports fair, mushroom hunting, moon viewing, and Halloween.

Hank: I loooooooove the fall! Autumn is full of events!

When I spoke with Ursala, she told me she was thinking about starting up a surfing club. She asked if I would like to join, and I said yes. But then she got upset because she didn’t think I’d actually want to join. She said it was all just a joke, and she called me weird for believing her.

Ursala: Oh, what a fiasco! Did you have to take me so seriously? You are so very weird, grooomph.

So Ursala and Puck both tried to trick me, but they had very different reactions when I played along with them.

Today is actually my town anniversary! Forest began 19 years ago today! 😮 If you’d like to see the town tour video I recorded two years ago, here it is! Forest hasn’t changed much since then…and that includes the villagers. Thirteen of 15 are the same, but I now have Amelia and Pinky instead of Dozer and Snake.

Nintendo recently announced that a new series of Amiibo cards is coming soon. While it will surely have cards of the eight new villagers added in New Horizons, I have a feeling that they’ll bring back at least some of the villagers we haven’t seen since GameCube. I’m really hoping to see Hank, Emerald, and Woolio reappear! (And also Champ from Wild World and City Folk.) I’m keeping my fingers crossed! 🤞

See you all next time! Never Stop Crossing! 🙂
