Steak Out

I got T-Bone’s goodbye letter in the mail today. He has pulled up his steaks stakes and moved away.

To my pal, Jeff, I have a hunger...and while I normally just grab a snack to fill up, this hunger will only be satisfied by exotic foods from far-off lands. So, I'm now a wanderer! -Snackily yours, T-Bone

Seconds later, I met his replacement, Doc the bunny. His house is just a bit south of my home acre. He seems like a nice guy.

Doc: Boy howdy! Do you live here in town, too, old bunny? This place is so rad. I moved here after my folks booted me.

Crazy Redd is planning a visit to Forest in a couple of days, and many of my villagers warned me about him. Genji got mad just thinking about Redd; he even called Redd a filthy rodent!

Genji: If you haven't, watch out! I didn't have any money, so that filthy rodent didn't get a chance to rip me off.

Since I last played in early July, it had been seven weeks since I saw my villagers. Some of them were mad about that, and others just seemed sad that they haven’t seen me lately.

Static: I never see your face at all these days.

Over near the wishing well, Emerald was telling me about the storage trick. You attach furniture to a letter, and then store it at the post office. It’s a helpful trick that comes in handy, considering this game has such limited storage options. The only bad thing is that you can’t tell which item is attached to which letter once it’s in there.

Emerald: ...I guess they just have the post office store the letters for them!

I got my net out and did a little bug-hunting, even though I didn’t spot any valuable bugs out. After I caught a longhorn beetle, Kody asked me about it. He offered me a whopping 2,900 bells. I thought that was a good deal, and Sydney apparently agreed. 😛

Kody: If you don't mind, I'll take your longhorn beetle for 2,900 bells! You up for it?

Ursala was being rude, as usual, and her catchphrase “unlike you” fit in perfectly when she said this:

Ursala: I know everyone, but don't expect me to dish any juicy details, unlike you! You nosy busybody!

As a reminder, we’re just one week away from the start of September. So it’ll soon be the best time of year to make bells! All you have to do is fish in the ocean and get a minimum of 3,000 bells per fish, since the sea bass will be gone. I’ll be sure to participate, so check back in early September for another entry. See you then!

Fireworks Festival 2019

The 4th of July fireworks festival was held tonight (Independence Day in the U.S.), so I headed over to the lake to enjoy the show.

Jeff enjoys the fireworks festival from the pier in Animal Crossing.

Tortimer was nearby, reminding me not to play with matches. I guess he doesn’t want me to blow off my fingers. Oh wait, I don’t have fingers anyway.

Tortimer: Jeff! You remember! Don't play with matches! It'll only lead to trouble!
“You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!”

When I got around to the other side of the lake, I found T-Bone, Kody, Maple, and Hank enjoying the fireworks.

Hank and Jeff enjoy the fireworks festival at the lake in Animal Crossing.

I tried burying a pitfall near Kody, since he was the only one walking around. But just like I found with Emerald at the Cherry Blossom Festival, animals participating in events are immune to pitfalls.

Kody enjoys the fireworks.

I bought some balloons from Crazy Redd’s stand. When I spoke to Maple again, she referred to it as a food stand. Unless she secretly eats balloons, I think she’s full of hot air.

Maple: Great spot, isn't it? People don't usually come near the food stand to watch fireworks, honey.

Baabara said she found a bug zapper, and she asked if it was mine. I said yes, and she handed it over. But what she did next really surprised me: She took half of the money in my pockets as a reward for finding it! She walked off with nearly 15,000 bells!!

Baabara: OK, I'll take a reward for finding it for you. I'll just have half of your money, sweetie!

She then said I have no morals and called me depressing! Wow.

Baabara: Oh, you have only 14,859 bells with you?! Wow, no morals, no cash... You're really depressing.

With that, she fully earned her time in pitfall prison. And now I have a renewed hatred for the fluffy demon.

Baabara, in a pitfall: Gaaah! How aggravating!

Sydney was talking about feng shui, and how I should never sit a doll so that it’s facing the wall.

Sydney: Hmm. They say it's all part of feng shui, but I think it's really the dolls' curse, sunshine.

Ursala mentioned Wendell, who will be visiting town soon, and she seemed to get annoyed by “picky vagrants” such as him.

Ursala: Just thinking about picky vagrants makes me so mad I want to scratch, unlike you!

It seems like everyone who wasn’t at the fireworks festival was in a rotten mood. Even Emerald!

Emerald: ...I wonder if a bum like that can really paint nice wallpaper...

I found a couple pads of paper in the dump, and they came in handy. I was close to running out.

When I circled back around to my home acre, I saw the bulletin board message about the fireworks festival. Officially, the town is celebrating the anniversary of the opening of the train station. Interesting.

~Fireworks Festival~ Join us at 7:00 p.m. on July 4th to commemorate the anniversary of the opening of the train station, with food, fun, and fireworks!
Wait, this mentions food too. Where is the food?!

After a quick trip back to Nookington’s to sell a few things in my pockets, I returned home and ended my game for the night. Happy 4th of July!

First Camper of 2019

Bob the cat has strayed away from Forest in search of snacks. I got his goodbye letter in the mail today.

To my pal, Jeff, I have a hunger...and while I normally just grab a snack to fill up, this hunger will only be satisfied by exotic foods from far-off lands. So, I'm now a wanderer! -Snackily yours, Bob

Genji was wondering where I’ve been for the past four weeks.

Genji: Where've you been, in a can? Partying? Whatever it was, I'm glad you're good, in a can!
I wasn’t in a can, and I’m not in a can now.

I met Bob’s replacement, T-Bone the bull. Even though I don’t have a beef with him or anything, I just don’t particularly like him. But then again, it’s hard for any animal to replace Bob. I should have T-Bone for dinner. I mean, have him over for dinner.

T-Bone: Anyway, I'm T-Bone. You must live here in Forest, don't you? Well, moocher?
Yes, and I’m having the time of my life.

Up on the cliff, Candi was getting excited about the fireworks festival coming up on Thursday night.

Candi: I need a good, old-fashioned fireworks show to really get me pumped for summer!

Ursala had an item that she couldn’t bear to throw away. It was a leaning stone, and she gave it to me for free! It’s not very often that Ursala does something nice like this.

Ursala: I found something I don't need anymore, but I can't bear to throw the poor thing away, unlike you.
Are you saying you’d throw me away?

I thought lightning was going to strike twice when Baabara told me she was feeling “VERY generous” near the wishing well.

Baabara: This is number 94 on my most-treasured item list, the sprinkler...

But her idea of being generous is selling me a sprinkler for 1,000 bells. I bought it just to be nice.

Belle was also hanging out at the wishing well, and she just wanted to know if I figured out how to use all my “stuff” in a tutu. 😮

Belle: Hey, have you figured out how to use all of your stuff, in a tutu?
Um, why do you ask?

In the spot where Chico originally lived (in the old days), I found a tent. It’s the first summer camper of the year!

The tent of a summer camper in Animal Crossing for Nintendo GameCube.

Rhoda the colorful chicken was inside, and she was not having a good time all cooped up in the tent.

Rhoda, the summer camper: Hello there. Are you enjoying the afternoon thus far? I don't mind telling you that I most certainly am not.

I made her day even worse by playing a game with her, and winning. She had to give me a green golf bag for free.

After that, I made a stop at the post office, finished pulling weeds around town, and then headed for home.

By the way, if you haven’t seen the Kotaku article about me and my GameCube town, check it out! I’ll be back with another entry in July. 🙂
