More Fishing and an Island Trip

I started up the game around 5:15 p.m., which means I got to hear the 5 p.m. music…one of my favorites. I went to Nook’s to sell my fish from last night. I also saw they had a taiko drum on sale. It just reminded me of the Taiko Drum Master games. And it made me sad, because they keep announcing all these Taiko Drum Master games for Wii in Japan, and they never got released in America.

Timmy: Does a taiko drum interest you?I talked to Puck and he asked me if I have a Game Boy Advance. I told him yes, and he talked about connecting the Game Boy Advance to the GameCube to visit the island. He said he wants to ride the boat and let his fingers dangle in the water. But Puck…you don’t have fingers.

Puck: I want to go for a boat ride and let my fingers dangle in the water!I talked to Static, and he told me had a cherry. He then tried to sell it to me for 2,720 bells. No thanks. Even though it’s a foreign fruit, I already have cherry trees planted in Forest. If I didn’t have one already, that would be different. But since I didn’t need it, I declined his “generous” offer.

Static: Listen close. I've got a cherry. Heh heh heh.I then did some fishing in the sea bass-free ocean. I was having a better barred knifejaw-to-red snapper ratio than I did yesterday. Barred knifejaws sell for 5,000 bells, while red snappers only sell for 3,000 bells.

My pockets full of fish.I then decided to clear some clutter in my house by taking some things to the island. I think this may have been my first visit to the island in over a year!

Ankha: It's been really, really long since I saw you, in my tomb. After that brief chat with Ankha, I put those items into my island house. My room there is a horribly cluttered mess of jingle items, beach/island items, igloo items, gyroids, and other miscellaneous crap.

My messy island house.I returned to the mainland and did some more fishing until I had over 200,000 bells to deposit into my bank account.

Depositing 202,734 bells into my account.

September Fishing and Octo-Gone

I opened my mailbox and unfortunately found a goodbye letter…from Octavian. I liked Octavian, and it’s too bad that he couldn’t stick around longer. Besides, he is the only octopus character in the game.

Octavian's goodbye letter.I went around town pulling weeds. As usual, Maple was outside sleeping. So I tried to catch some Z’s.

Trying to catch Maple's Z's.She didn’t appreciate it. But I continued on. Once I pulled enough weeds to restore perfect town status, I went fishing. In early September, there are no sea bass (or jellyfish) in the ocean. That means if you fish in the ocean, every fish you catch will be worth at least 3,000 bells! You do have to avoid the acre with the mouth of the river though, because you will still catch some river fish there. But fish in the other four ocean acres, and you will make a LOT of money. The sea bass gradually start to return around the 11th or 12th, but the fishing is still great until mid-month.

Unfortunately, Nook’s was already closed when I played tonight, so I didn’t fish as long as I wanted. But I did catch nine red snappers and two barred knifejaws, for a total of 37,000 bells.

I caught a red snapper! After that, I went to visit K.K. before I ended my night. I asked him for a random song, and he performed K.K. Safari for me. My pockets were full of stinky fish, so he couldn’t give me the aircheck. But that’s okay, I didn’t need it anyway.

K.K.: Your pockets are full, so I can't give you rock, Doc.

Founder’s Day

Despite owning this game for nearly ten years, there is one event on the calendar that I had never attended. Until today. It’s Founder’s Day. So I headed over to the wishing well and found Tortimer there.

Tortimer: It was on this day, long ago, that our forecritters came to this land.He gave me a weed model.

Tortimer: It's a weed model. The reasoning behind the weed model is that if not for the founders (or the forecritters, as Tortimer says), the town would just be an undeveloped valley overrun with weeds. Tortimer has a couple things to say about the holiday, but that’s it. It’s a bare-bones holiday that doesn’t have any festivities. Oh well.

On the way back to my house, I saw a dig spot and dug up a mega bowtoid. But the interesting part about that was the bug on the tree appeared to hover in place when the view changed and made the tree invisible.

A bug appears to float in mid-air!As I went up the ramp, Puck and Robin were having an argument. They took their frustrations out on me.

Puck: You don't want me bustin' out angry all over you, so back off!Robin: Shut up! You don't know me! Don't try to judge me!I then went in my house to lay down the weed model. As expected, it’s not very exciting.

A weed model displayed in my house.I then went back outside and walked around town. Octavian was staring at a fish in the river, so I fished it out as he watched. It was an eel, and Octavian stood there applauding my catch.

Octavian applauds as I catch an eel.So I talked to him and he complimented my eel, asking if I caught it myself.  HUH?

Octavian: That's a heck of an eel. Did you catch it yourself?Anyway, he asked if he could just have the eel, and I agreed to give it to him. But he ended up giving me something in return anyway, an apple.

Octavian: This kind of fruit doesn't grow in our village. Good trade, hm?After digging up some fossils and stopping at the post office, I then headed for home.
