31st and Goal

I received Midge’s goodbye letter in the mail today.

Dearest Jeff, It's time for me to leave Forest--and you, Jeff. It saddens me to leave behind a friend who means so much to me. Thanks for everything! -From Midge

Sterling was talking about potato salad for some reason, and he imagined having enough of it to build a baseball stadium out of it. And then he added “but steel,” which is his catchphrase. It sort of fit the situation, and yet it nullified his point about it being made out of potato salad.

Sterling: At least enough to build a respectable baseball stadium made out of it, but steel.

I hadn’t been doing any bug-catching over the past week and a half, so I was behind schedule in regards to meeting my goal. But I made up for it today. I particularly had a lot of success with rare bugs between 11 p.m. and midnight, and I was approaching my goal.

But once the clock struck 12, things slowed down quite a bit. Not only were some of the August bugs suddenly out of season, but new September bugs were plentiful…including crickets.

I caught a cricket! That's the ticket!

I still caught a shark, and Goldie almost immediately offered to buy it from me for 18,849 bells. I was surprised I was able to move the shark so quickly. 😉

Goldie: Thank you very much! Well, I guess I should give you this then... 18,849 bells, on the nose!
High priced shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo.

I was still a bit short of my goal, so I went around collecting foreign fruit. Fortunately, I have a lot of foreign fruit trees from the early days of Forest. And by 12:20 a.m., my bank account balance reached 38 million bells.

Your current balance is 38,000,000 bells.

In total, I earned about 400,000 bells today in about 2 hours and 20 minutes of play time. That’s much longer than my usual sessions, but I was determined to meet my goal.

And you may remember that my goal was technically to have 38.1 million bells by September 1st. But I have that covered. My bank account balance will earn me 99,999 bells in interest overnight, so I still met my goal.

Fireworks Festival 2019

The third fireworks festival of the month was held tonight. Since I didn’t participate in the last two, I decided to play tonight. Tortimer was standing outside of town hall, encouraging villagers to kick back and watch some explosions.

Tortimer: The Fireworks Show is today, sprout! Time to kick back and watch some stuff explode!

He handed out some sparklers and roman candles. I did my annual tradition of lighting a fire under his… shell.

Jeff lights a roman candle and fires it at Tortimer's shell.

And of course, I spent a few moments looking up to enjoy the fireworks. I usually stand on a bridge somewhere, but this time, I stood on the cliff at the top of the waterfall.

Fireworks explode in the night sky over Forest.
Boom, boom, boom, boom.

Midge is now all packed up and ready to move out of town, so I said goodbye to her and her nest.

Midge: Yeah, I've finally made the big decision! I'm moving out, in my nest...

After that, I tried to do a little bug-catching. However, I wasn’t finding many good ones…and I was starting to get tired. So I called it a night before I earned many bells. I’ll have to make up for it next time.

Midge on the Move

Last night, Midge informed me that she was thinking about moving out of town. I did not try to stop her. I feel neutral towards Midge, and I’d rather lose a neutral villager than risk losing someone I really like. Besides, she’s had a full two years living in Forest. It’s time to move on.

Midge: I guess what I'm saying is, I'm thinking about moving...

Bones asked me for a leaf shirt, and I ordered one for him. It arrived today, and I took it to him. In return, he gave me a stone tile.

Bones: Gaaaaaasp! Lone bone! It's a leaf shirt!

Whitney asked me for some lovely furniture, but the shops didn’t have any (and I didn’t place an order for one, because I wasn’t sure when I’d be playing again).

Whitney: I wish I could move on to some other obsession. But, you know what they say... Happiness starts at home!

As I was bug-hunting, Bones told me he wanted a memento of our friendship. In particular, he wanted my cyclommatus! He wanted it for free, but there was an option to sell it to him, so I chose that. He gave me 7,215 bells for it. Good deal!

Bones: Yay! That's great news! Well, here you are, 7,215 bells.

I earned about 100,000 bells on the night (and about 50,000 last night). There are still two more weeks to go in August, and I’m roughly on pace to meet my goal of having 38.1 million bells by September 1st.
