A Helpful Push

The fireworks festival was held today, and I try to participate at least once each year. Tortimer was standing outside of town hall, and he encouraged me to kick back and watch stuff explode. Sounds like a blast!

Tortimer: The Fireworks Show is today, sprout! Time to kick back and watch some stuff explode!

He gave me a sparkler, and then I manipulated him into giving me five roman candles. 😛 That’s one thing I like about the fireworks festival in City Folk: It’s easy to get as many fireworks as you want, and they’re free! The bad thing is that sparklers and roman candles are the only things you can get (no fountain fireworks like in later games). But roman candles are pretty awesome!

Over by the museum, Bones asked me if I had itchy feet(???). He said we should watch the fireworks together. Aww, how cute. Of course a real dog would probably be terrified of the fireworks, though. 😛

Bones: Hey, Chill J, you got itchy feet or what? Stop wandering around and let's watch the show together!

I was busy making my rounds, but I did stop to enjoy the fireworks later on.

Jeff enjoys the fireworks festival in ACCF.

And of course, I returned to town hall for my annual tradition: Lighting Tortimer’s shell on fire for his turtle wax treatment. 😛 The funny part is that I initially fired the roman candle a bit too far away…but Gala helped me out by pushing Tortimer into the flame! Now that’s how to get on my good side! Lucy never did things like this for me!

Jeff lights a roman candle and aims it at Tortimer's shell.

I went bug-hunting, and there were two scorpions among my catches tonight. In total, I made 140,000 bells in just over an hour of play. It wasn’t my most efficient bug-catching night, but then again, I was watching fireworks and stuff too. 😛

But that 140k was enough: It ensured that I will have enough to reach my summertime goal for the year, at least once I get my September bank statement.

There is one fireworks festival remaining next weekend, just so you know. We get five of them this year, instead of the usual four. Make sure you enjoy them while you can!

Ending the Violet

Goldie sent me a nice letter thanking me for the medicine I took her recently. She’s feeling much better now, and she sent me a present. But when I opened the gift, I saw that it was…

Goldie sent me a cow skull to thank me for medicine.

A cow skull?! Is this like a horse’s head? Is she threatening me?? 😮

Gala was home, so I was finally able to see the inside of her house. And it’s…unique.

The inside of Gala's house.

I ran into Wolfgang outside, so I made sure to pitfall him. That’s what he gets for sending me on a wild goose chase last week. But the interesting thing is that he glitched when I spoke with him while he was in the pitfall; he was standing up on the pitfall! Only after the conversation was over did he “flip” out of the pitfall.

Wolfgang, standing on a pitfall: Blast it! Gravity has outwitted me again!

I have encountered this glitch before: It happened to Chow in my 2016 video, Pitfalling my Villagers.

Tom asked me for some new clothes, so I was able to buy him a racer 6 shirt just before the tailors’ shop closed for the night. To my surprise, he actually liked it!

Tom: Oho! Is that my racer 6 shirt you've got there?

He gave me a lovely dresser in return. Anytime you get furniture in exchange for a shirt, I consider that a good trade!

When I ran into Violet, she told me she was thinking about moving out of town! Yes!

Violet: Yes, I'm thinking it might be time to leave this town, woof woof.
I told you from the start, just how this would end.

After speaking with everyone, I began my usual summer night routine: Bug-hunting (with a little fishing sprinkled in). I hunted for about an hour, and I earned a cool quarter of a million (250k) bells on the night. I should have no problem meeting my September 1st goal. 😎

It’s just kinda sad that the summer is almost over. But it’s not over just yet. I may be back with another entry on Sunday night. I still need to see the fireworks in City Folk this year! 🎆

Back on Track

Wolfgang asked me to catch his lucky bug for him tonight…and that was a pondskater.

Wolfgang: Normally I'm not interested in catching squishy little bugs... But I'll make an exception for a lucky bug!

I kept an eye out for one as I played. But unfortunately for Wolfgang, I didn’t see a single pondskater the entire night.

When I visited Violet, she wondered if we’d be having any rare visitors in a thong. I certainly hope not.

Violet: I wonder if we'll have any rare visitors, in a thong?

Goldie was still sick, so I bought some medicine for her once again.

Goldie: You have medicine?! Would you be willing to share, woof woof?!

After making my rounds, I went on my usual summer bug hunt. Unfortunately, things weren’t going well. I swung and missed at two rainbow stags, and I wasn’t finding many good bugs (or fish). In about an hour of searching (bridging the 10pm and 11pm hours), I only made about 115,000 bells.

So I took a little break, and then returned after midnight. Immediately, I noticed a dramatic difference. I was seeing many more rare bugs, and more bugs in general. I went back and forth across the beach, filling my pockets with lots of good catches. In under 45 minutes, I earned 215,000 bells.

That gave me a total of 330,000 bells on the night, and it kicked my bank account balance over 42 million bells.

Your current balance is 42,030,000 bells.

My goal was to hit 42.5 million by September 1st, and I’m now back on pace to hit that target.

Note: Out of curiosity, I just now checked a guide to see the times that pondskaters are out. And they can’t be caught after 7 p.m.! So they were never even out the whole time I played. Wolfgang sent me on a wild goose chase! He might as well have asked me to catch a glow-in-the-dark purple unicorn!

No wonder my first hour went so bad; I kept making trips around the river looking for pondskaters! Wolfgang has earned himself a date with a pitfall seed. I’ll have to introduce them next week.
