One Scorpion, 3 Trades

Late on Sunday night, I started up the game hoping to catch some of the fireworks festival. However, it was just after midnight, and the event had already ended. So I completely missed out on fireworks in City Folk this year. Oops. But at least Tortimer was still hanging out in front of town hall…

Tortimer: Well. I guess this is it for fireworks this year. No more fireworks until next year. How sad...

Many of my villagers still had fireworks-related dialogue, so I almost felt like I had been part of it, at least indirectly. 😛

Poncho: That empty, boomless feeling you get when the Fireworks Show is over really bums me out, li'l bear.
Harry: Phew... How long have I been on my feet? But I couldn't let the fireworks outlast me, I'm evil!

I found three items in the recycle bin: A gold econo-chair, a glass-top table, and a turntable. It’s pretty rare to find three items in there all at once…but it got even better. Later on, I also found a pine bonsai in there as well! Four items in one session is very rare.

Marcel was still sick with a cold, so I gave him more medicine on Sunday. When I played again tonight, he had sent me a letter telling me he was all better now. He sent me a lovely chair as a thank-you gift.

Nana was fully unpacked, so I got a good look at her house tonight. She has a fruit theme, and that makes perfect sense, considering she’s named after a banana herself.

Nana's fruit-themed house in Animal Crossing: City Folk (ACCF) for Nintendo Wii.

I spent the last hour of August catching some bugs (and fish) to enjoy the last bit of summer. But the fun ended at the crack of midnight, when September began and tons of crickets suddenly started appearing.

I caught a cricket! That's the ticket!

In an instant, many of the rare bugs were gone. But I did still catch a few, including a scorpion that Tom (the cat) offered me 12,698 bells for. (Naturally, I sold it to him.) After I grabbed a vertigo shirt from the lost and found, Tom pinged me again. He wanted the shirt, and he offered me the scorpion that he just bought! I was shocked! 😲

Tom: I'll give you a good deal! My new scorpion for it! Whaddays say?

Of course I made the trade. That’s two amazing trades from Tom. In effect, Tom paid me nearly 13k for a shirt that I got for free! Amazing! It got even better when Grizzly later bought the scorpion from me for 10,752 bells. 😆

If you look at the series of trades another way, I got over 23k for a scorpion and a shirt. 😲

Since I had trouble finding more rare bugs though, so I sold several rounds of foreign fruit. I ended up being able to boost my bank account balance up to 58 million bells! So I beat my summer goal by a cool half million bells. 😎

Your current balance is 58,000,000 bells.

Sweet Monkey of Mercy

On Thursday, I received Goldie’s goodbye letter in the mail. It’s sad to lose her again, but at least I had some bonus time with her after she left the first time.

Dear Jeff, Today's my last day. I'm leaving Forest. Good-bye, Jeff. I hope you won't forget me! Good-bye, -Goldie

I made around 150,000 bells bug-hunting Thursday night. But I was helped out a bit by Harry, who gave me 9,344 bells for a goliath beetle (over 50% higher than the 6k that Nook pays).

Today, Roscoe became the latest villager to comment on my racing helmet. Like Tom before him, he used the ridiculous expression “Sweet monkey of mercy!” 😆

Roscoe: Sweet monkey of mercy! You scared the daylights out of me! What is that on your head, I'm evil?

But unfortunately, that wasn’t the only time a monkey would cross my mind today. Just a few moments later, I walked into a new house and met Goldie’s replacement: Nana the monkey.

Nana: Eek! I-I'm sorry! It's such a horrible mess in here...

I don’t particularly like monkeys not named Champ, but I guess it could be worse. At least Nana isn’t as ugly as most monkeys in the game.

A couple of my villagers pointed out that the last fireworks festival of the year is tomorrow.

Poncho: This is the last one for this year! I gotta savor every BOOM like a tasty morsel on my plate, li'l bear!

I may try to squeeze in some fireworks (and bug-hunting) tomorrow night if I can. I do try to play during fireworks at least once a year in each Animal Crossing game.

Marcel was sick with a cold. I gave him some medicine, both on Thursday and again tonight.

At the Roost, I told K.K. I was feeling a little sad, and he played K.K. Condor to try to cheer me up. It is a good song.

K.K.: Here's a jam that'll shine the blues clean off your shoes... It's called K.K. Condor.

See you next time!

Easy Come, Easy Go

Last night, Gabi told me she wanted a photo of herself with a nature theme. So she asked me to catch a peacock for her!

Gabi: You know? Something with a big bug! Can you imagine me in a photo with a peacock?

But it’s not Festivale, so I couldn’t track down Pavé! 😉 But of course, she meant a peacock butterfly. However, those aren’t out at night, so she was out of luck.

When I went into Goldie’s house, I was very sad to see her all packed up and ready to move out. 🙁

Goldie: The boxes probably gave it away, but...I've decided to move, honeybun.

When she returned to Forest in May, it was the nicest surprise to see that she was back in my life. But I guess it was too good to be true, or at least, too good to last. I’ll miss her. Again.

The Bug-Off was held today, but I played too late to participate. Nat informed me that Poncho was the winner, with a 65-point miyama stag.

Nat: The 65-point miyama stag caught by Poncho from right here in Forest.

When I walked up the ramp onto the cliff behind my house, I saw Poncho, Tom, and Gabi all hanging out there. I don’t know, it just seemed odd. It almost looked like Poncho was thinking about jumping off the cliff. 😛

Gabi, Tom, and Poncho hanging out on the cliff above my house.

Antonio told me he challenged Roscoe to see who could stay awake longer. But after 96 hours, Antonio fell asleep and lost the challenge.

Antonio: I fought it for 96 hours... But, honk! I couldn't handle it.
His catchphrase made this dialogue so much better. I don’t even know why. 😛

Queenie told me that she likes to get massages on Saturdays. This time, she was using essences of ice cream and…fried ice cream. 😛

Queenie: This week, my massage will use the essences of ice cream and fried ice cream!

And as of tonight, my savings account balance reached 57.5 million bells…so I’ve already met my summer goal! But with almost two weeks remaining in August, I’m sure I’ll still do some more bug hunts before the season ends. 🙂
