Halloween 2024

When I played on Sunday, I found Patty all packed up to move out of town (as expected).

Patty: Like, hi there, Sugar J! This took me a REALLY long time to decide, but I'm totally moving.

I played again today, and I received her goodbye letter in the mail.

Dear Jeff, I'm moving away from Forest. Thanks for all the memories, Jeff! Byeeeee!

Of course, today is Halloween. The first thing I did was change to my Guest character to get candy out of his pockets and house. (I think he has more in storage too, but I didn’t even get it out. I figured I had enough already.) I put the candy on the ground, and then switched back to my main character.

After changing into my cavalier costume (since I already used the mummy outfit last year), I tried to do my normal errands before the event started at 6:00 p.m. Mint warned me that it was going to start as I was out walking around, but I was already keeping an eye on the clock.

Mint: You know Halloween's going to start while you're wandering around, right, ahhhhhh?

I was also using that time to trap my outdoor villagers before they turned into pumpkin-headed maniacs. It’s your turn to be trapped, Mint! 😛

Mint trapped in her dungeon of holes.
She’s actually holding a shovel…but fortunately, she doesn’t know how to use it.

I trapped four of my five outdoor villagers; only Antonio surprised me a bit later. I had to give him a piece of candy, but I was then able to trap him without much trouble. In fact, the whole night, that was the only piece of candy I had to waste on a villager, since they all stayed trapped. They were the most well-behaved little candy-obsessed, pumpkin-headed demons I could ever ask for. 😆

My trapped villagers.

But the night was really about finding Jack, and giving him candy in exchange for spooky furniture.

Jack: So, how about it, pumpkin? Care to grease my palm with a little sugar?

Of course, my costume also allowed me to trick-or-treat for additional candy at the homes of my four indoor villagers. (Patty’s replacement hasn’t moved in yet, so I only have nine villagers at the moment.)

Jeremiah: Wait, wait, monk monk! I'll give you candy! Just please don't play any tricks on me!

I continued searching for Jack, and stocking up on spooky furniture.

Jack: Excellent! Thanks, pumpkin!

I kept going until I used up all of the candy I had, scoring 26 pieces of spooky stuff.

My Halloween haul of 26 spooky items.

Each one was worth 10,310 bells (even the wallpaper and carpets), so I earned a total of 268,060 bells. That doesn’t even count today’s fossils and balloon presents I shot down.

I hope you all had a happy Halloween! 🎃 See you next time! Never Stop Crossing!

Mermaid from Space

On Wednesday, I recorded a gameplay video of my session, and I uploaded it today. If you’d like to see how it went, here is the video:

Yesterday, Antonio asked me to find something brown for him.

Antonio: Dumbbell! If you find something that's got a real brown vibe, can you bring it over?

Moments later, I saw Patty the brown cow. Think she’ll do?

Trying to catch Patty with a net.

Okay, so I couldn’t exactly fit her into my pockets. But I did check the lost-and-found, and there was a ranch tea table in there. I took it over to Antonio, and he gave me 728 bells for it.

As you may have seen in the video, Ruby has been sick lately. I gave her medicine Wednesday and yesterday, and she said it tasted like the bottom of a swamp! That’s a weird and oddly specific thing to say, and yet I kinda love it and want to use it sometime. 😆

Ruby: Wow, this tastes like the bottom of a swamp.
Well, it is Nook brand medicine.

Antonio and Ruby weren’t the only ones asking me for favors yesterday, though. Patty wanted a fossil, and Jeremiah asked me for some retro furniture. While I couldn’t find any retro furniture, I did give an icthyo torso to Patty. She loved it, and she paid me 528 bells for it…a fraction of what Tom Nook would’ve paid me.

Later on, I decided to check for a UFO…and it paid off! The spaceship came out right from my starting point (one of six possible UFO entry points), so it was quite easy to shoot it down. Lucky me!

Shooting a UFO with my slingshot, near Nook 'n' Go.

This was my first UFO of the year, and the 34th I’ve shot down overall. I looked around town for the spaceship part, and I eventually found it by Mint’s house.

The spaceship part right in front of Mint's house.

Today, Gulliver was down on the beach, near his crash-landed UFO.

Gulliver: There I was, minding my own business, leaving the odd crop circle for folks to scratch their heads about...

He told me about his rough landing, and then he realized a part was missing from his spaceship. Of course, I already had it. I handed it over, and he gave me a mermaid statue in return.

When I spoke to Jeremiah a bit later, I had an option that said “take this.” I ended up giving him the mermaid statue, and he actually accepted it! I didn’t know a mermaid statue would qualify as a “retro” item, but it did!

Jeremiah: All right! Huh huh huh! It's the mermaid statue furniture I was waiting for!

He gave me a bamboo wall in return. Then, he must have rushed home to check it out, because that’s where I found him not even two minutes later! He already had the statue on display, and he said he can’t wait to curl up with it for a nap!

Jeremiah: I can't wait to curl up for a nap with my new furniture, monk monk!
A frog and a mermaid? Sounds like an anime series. 😆

He seemed really grateful, and he wasn’t the only one. Nana, Antonio, and Patty were all talking about their gifts from yesterday (or Wednesday, in Nana’s case). It’s nice to see they (seemingly) appreciate the favors we do for them.

Also, Ruby was over her cold today, and she gave me an azalea bonsai to thank me for the medicine.

See you next week!

Key Haul at the Waterfall

As soon I started up the game this evening, I saw a huge dragonfly fly by. I was thinking it was a banded dragonfly, so I got my net out and chased it down. I lost it momentarily, but I ran into it again near the windmill. I swung my net and caught it! It was actually a giant petaltail, though.

I caught a giant petaltail! I tamed the beast!

I had forgotten all about these, since they’re not in New Horizons at all (and pretty rare in the other games too).

When I visited Jeremiah, he was repeating a phrase: “I’ll catch one!” He was hoping to catch a long locust today. It probably won’t happen as long as he’s staying in his house, though. 😛

Jeremiah: I'll catch one!
A bug, or a cold? 😉

After making my rounds, I took a break and then returned later (after 8 p.m.). At the Roost, I asked for a random song, and K.K. performed K.K. Dixie for me.

K.K.: All right, get ready to dig the riffs on this ditty: K.K. Dixie.

Antonio locked himself out of his house, and he was feeling antsy. So I went sniffing around the river for his key. It took a little while, but I eventually fished it out near the waterfall.

I caught a key! ...Whose key is this?

It then took me almost as long to find Antonio wandering around. 😛 But he was relieved to have his key, and he rewarded me with a tall sputnoid.

Antonio: Ooh! That shape! It's back! No mistake! My key!

Patty pinged me, and she surprised me by telling me she was moo-ving out of town!

Patty: I'm moving, how-now!

I thought about it for a second, and I decided to let her go. True, she’s only been here for two months, but she isn’t exactly one of my favorites. It’s better to have her go, than to risk one of my favorites moving out without warning.

Yesterday, I posted my latest ACCF video, City Folk Moments #21. Here it is:

See you next time!
