Hello, and welcome to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog! I'm Jeff and here you can follow along with my adventures in the game. Unlike other Animal Crossing games, Happy Home Designer does not run in real-time. So each blog entry will usually cover multiple "game days." If you'd like, you can start from the beginning or just jump right in!
Day 55
I finally bought my first pack of Amiibo cards today. But I wasn't exactly thrilled with the cards I got: Muffy, Tiffany, Gigi, Pudge, Eugene, and Tom Nook.
Muffy is the black sheep with a clown face, Gigi looks like Jambette's sister, Pudge is making one of the most awkward smiles I've ever seen, Eugene is my mortal enemy, and Tom Nook is...well, Tom Nook. Yes yes.
What an attractive bunch of animals.
I decided to try out one of my new cards by using the Amiibo phone. I'm not sure why, but I called up Eugene. He wanted a space for self-reflection. He's so full of himself that he probably just wants to stand in front of a mirror and stare at himself all day.
I decided to stick Eugene high on a mountaintop in winter, where he can't frighten anyone and he may freeze to death. I made his home into a mushroom, only because I wanted to surround him with fungus. I also gave him a barbed-wire fence--we don't want him to escape! And we don't want any innocent critters to accidentally stumble in to see him, either.
Koalas eat leaves (normally eucalyptus) to survive. So I gave Eugene a bunch of leafless stumps.
Indoors, Eugene insisted on a director's chair and a TV camera. Does he think he's a movie star or something? Ha! Well, I decided to be nice and give him something that would keep him entertained 24/7: Mirrors. Lots and lots of mirrors. He can enjoy staring at himself for a long, long time. As for me, I couldn't bear to look. I've seen enough.
After the montage, he taught me the mischief emotion. The project code for his house is 0893-7785-021.
Day 56
I used another of my Amiibo cards to call my boss, Tom Nook. At first, he asked me what type of house I would like! I wish! Once he learned that I would be the one building a home for him, he was happy that I would be serving him. Uh, what?
Tom Nook then came down to the office and introduced himself to me. I am Nook, hear me roar. Dude, I work for you. You hired me.
Tom Nook told me the design style was up to me. I'd actually rather have a theme to work with, to be honest. But before I got into the house design, I decided to stick Tom Nook up in the mountains too. I painted his roof red, but I didn't make any other changes to the outside of his house. I gave him a few trees and a sidewalk, though.
Indoors, I decided to make his house look like Nook 'n' Go. The first row of products has saplings and seeds, and the second row has medicine and stationery--although I had to use four-leaf clovers (books) for the stationery. Unfortunately, I had trouble stocking the back row. Normally, that's where you would find carpet, wallpaper, and tools. But I haven't unlocked any of the tools, and carpet/wallpaper can only be installed, not displayed. So I pretended it's Halloween time and just filled that row with candy. As for the furniture items, I used Tom Nook's blue golf bag, a campfire, and a double-neck guitar.
A raccoon figurine stands in for Tom Nook behind the counter.
When I was done, Tom Nook taught me the agreement emotion, yes yes. If you'd like to visit, just Nook 'n' Go to project code 0608-7781-001.
You didn't do Pudge, Gigi, or Tiffany's house yet?

How is Eugene the smug greaser koala your mortal enemy? I had him in my New Leaf town for a little over three years. He lived there longer than any villager I've had and I always liked him. Now my town is all jock villagers. (Frobert, Flip, Poncho, Kody, Snake, Samson, Teddy, Scoot, Biff and Rod).

@Lindsay: It's partially an inside joke I had with a friend, and partially just me not liking Eugene. :P

I got a pack of amiibo cards when I designed heaps of villagers homes, so I got doubles :| I only got Digby from that pack. I still enjoy inviting the doubles over but the fact I already designed makes me annoyed.

Huh? My name is cutegal, I wonder what happened?

Jeff (mod) · Nov 18, 2015
@Cutegal: Sorry, but I don't plan on getting Wild World.

Fred · Nov 18, 2015
@Jeff,
don't even bother with Wild World unless you're a historian of the series, it introduced stuff that New Leaf built on, so it's like going backwards. It'd be like going from Super Mario Galaxy to Super Mario Brothers 2. If you never played 2, don't bother unless you're a historian wanting to see how it developed, it's fine if you grew up with it, it's nostalgic, but otherwise, skip past games, play current ones, the developers build on past ideas, so they usually better- usually, there are some things they go too far with

@Fred: I agree about Animal Crossing, but I don't think the comparison to Mario games really fits. The core Animal Crossing games are essentially the same game, just with more and more features added (and occasionally, some features removed). That's not true of Mario games, though. Galaxy is really nothing like SMB2. The 2D Mario games (including SMB2) are still worth playing, even if you've played Mario Galaxy.

Jeff, can I ask you a question? Will you ever get Animal crossing wild world? I would love to see a blog on it! ^-^

@hi,
Jeff no longer gives his friend code out to random people.

Jeff (mod) · Nov 18, 2015
@hi: Sorry, but I'm not looking for new 3DS friends now. I don't plan on buying Triforce Heroes, but I do own A Link Between Worlds. I just haven't played it in a long time, but I hope to get back to it eventually.

Ouch, those cards hurt your eyes. Unlucky, Jeff.

In the Japanese version, Muffy wants a gothic and Lolita house, so she'll probably want something similar in the NA version- basically she'll unlock the Rococo series if you don't already have it. By the way in the random card dislike, welcome to the club, up next the crazy amount of repeats you will wind up getting when you try to finish the collection by buying random packs!!! I say screw the cards, and just go with random ones, it's what I've been doing in my Japanese version, and I love it, I got to choose every single one of my clients!
1
Diana · Nov 16, 2015
@Jim, yes, she does want a gothic hangout.
I've gotten two packs so far, and I don't have anyone I absolutely hate. I also got Tiffany.
I got Isabelle and Willow and Bob, who are the ones I'm most happy about.
I guess Monique is my least favorite out of the ones I got.

@Diana, I kind of figured as much since that's what she requested- albeit in Japanese! :) However, it is putting to good use all the years I studied Japanese!
To Jeff, I saw your review, and I sensed you wouldn't like this, it's not a game that lends itself to just any AC player, it's a special breed of AC players who absolutely love the designing aspect, because you design, design, design, and after that, you design some more! LOL Oh, you also forgot to mention that you can use the amiibo cards to save furniture items to give to other players- physically give them, but still. Also, literally every villager is reported to have been put into HHD. I can't confirm or deny this, I've only got about 200 in my Japanese town, and with nearly 200 hours into it, I'm getting a bit worn out to be honest. I love the designing, but there's only so much repetition I can take, if it weren't for the Japanese practice, I probably wouldn't be playing HHD at all right now.

hi · Nov 18, 2015
also did you use some sort of software to make this site?
1
Jeff (mod) · Nov 23, 2015
@hi: Sorry, but I don't own Mario Maker and I don't plan on buying it. The NL/CF/GC/Gaming blogs use Tripod's (outdated) blog software (although I customized the look of the blogs quite a bit). Everything else on JVGS, I coded myself.
