Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog
Hello, and welcome to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog! I'm Jeff and here you can follow along with my adventures in the game. Unlike other Animal Crossing games, Happy Home Designer does not run in real-time. So each blog entry will usually cover multiple "game days." If you'd like, you can start from the beginning or just jump right in!

Day 9

Tom Nook was in the office waiting for me today. He was saying "yes yes," and I was thinking "no no." He started out by telling me he was impressed with the school. He then said he was going to start giving me more responsibility; he made me the project leader of town development! I'll be able to choose which projects we work on next. Wait, isn't this like being mayor in New Leaf? Isabelle will return tomorrow with more information.

But for now, Tom Nook gave me the Happy Home Handbook, which has lessons to help me improve my skills. Wait, first you say I'm doing great, then you give me a book that tells me how to improve? Most lessons will require Play Coins, but he's going to "generously" give me the first lesson for free.

I sat at my desk to check out the first lesson: Ceiling Decor. That's right, I can now add chandeliers, lamps, and mirror balls to the ceilings of houses.

My character looked as if he had some devious plans in mind. Watch out, animals!

I tried to learn another lesson, but the game limits players to one lesson per day. Bummer. I went outside and spoke with Roscoe, who wanted a black-and-white house. I had to choose a location for the house, and I chose a plot at the top of a waterfall! Roscoe was excited about it, but maybe a bit too excited. Whoa! Get your nose out of my face, please. You're invading my personal space.

An interesting thing about this location is that I can change the type of bridge that crosses the river! Pretty cool!

Choosing a bridge in ACHHD.
I went with a cobblestone bridge. I also gave Roscoe a black lattice fence and his house is a small fortress! Unfortunately, the only black flowers available were those in pots. Still, I tried to make a black-and-white flower garden to match the theme.

Inside, I went with a stripe wall and modern tile. I used a lot of modern furniture in here, but I also included a sleek stereo, a metal guitar, some black cosmos, and a couple of reversi pieces. And just to test out my new ability, I put in a ceiling fan.

When I finished up, I learned the curiosity emotion.

Day 10

Isabelle was in the office today, and she told me we could build a hospital, restaurant, or shop. But before I decided, I sat at my desk to learn another lesson from the handbook. There were 11 new lessons to choose from, but I chose the styling machine (which costs five play coins to unlock). It allows me to change my hairstyle, hair color, eye shape, and skin color...just like I could at the beginning of the game. This is great for people who like a different look every day. There's no limit to how often you can use the styling machine, either. So if you don't like how a certain look turned out, you can change it again immediately. Very helpful.

I went back downstairs and told Isabelle I'd like to build a shop. We headed outside and I chose the exterior of the shop.

A lot of new items were now available including display stands, cash registers, shopping carts, and so on. I put some candy and vending machines by the door, some food display cases along the walls, and some fruit, canned goods, and chocolates on the center aisle. I also put a security camera on the wall.

It's no Nookington's, but I think it turned out well for my first attempt. When I returned to the office, Lottie told me that a new computer has arrived! She said it's a dedicated design platform for Nook's Homes. It allows me to use the internet to visit projects built by Nook's Homes employees from all over the world! I uploaded my shop design. If I'm understanding this correctly, you can visit it by entering code 0206-7721-342.

With that done, I wrapped up my night at the office. See you next time!
