As expected, K.K. Slider came to town for his first Forest performance tonight. However, I was a bit surprised that the concert started automatically when I started up the game. It’s not like previous games where you can go attend his show when you want.
He performed the song “Welcome Horizons” for…well, the whole town, basically. As the credits roll, the camera spins around (much like K.K.’s performances on GameCube), and various weather conditions occur (leaves blowing, snowflakes fly by, etc.).
After the show, Tom Nook met me at my house to give me a copy of the song. He also informed me that K.K. would be playing here every Saturday evening. That wasn’t surprising…but Tom Nook did have a big surprise for me. He sent me the Island Designer app!!!
I had been assuming I would need to get to a level five island first, but that’s not the case! While paths were the only designing option initially, I was able to use Nook Miles to unlock the waterscaping permit and the cliff construction permit. There are also other path designs available, but I didn’t spring for them just yet. Still, I’m really excited that I unlocked this! It’s times like this that I’m glad I try to avoid spoilers on how things are unlocked, because it’s great to be surprised! ๐
If you’ve been reading this blog regularly, you can probably guess the first thing I used the island designer app for. I filled it that one tiny square of river so I can finally put a bridge just west of my house. I didn’t pay it off just yet, but I will soon…probably tomorrow.
Just a quick note that I want to thank TZ for sending me an Aries rocking chair, and thanks to Alex for sending me a colorful wheel. He said it may come in handy for online games, but I’ll have to make sure it works differently than it has in the past. In New Leaf, it showed a different number to each player! If it still works that way, it won’t be helpful. But I’ll give it a try!
I found a lost item on the ground, and it belonged to Tia (the first person I asked about it). As my reward for returning it, she gave me a safety helmet. It wasn’t much different from the hat I wear when using the island designer app.
I found eight star fragments on the beach today (after wishing on several shooting stars last night). So I was finally able to make my Bunny Day wand…which I then put in storage.
But it wasn’t all good news today. I checked my empty house plot and I saw that Claudia is moving in! Ugh! She may be a rejected villager from someone who visited for Friday Night Forest last night. ๐ That’s how I also got Claudia in New Leaf…from an online visitor.
After I was done making my rounds, I experimented with the island designer tools a bit. I haven’t made any major changes yet (though I trimmed the west edge of my cliff a bit).
But I’ve pretty much decided to use the west edge of town for some type of obstacle course (or game). But a lot of work needs to be done first, so it’s not going to be done in a day or two. I will definitely need to move Tia’s house, and possibly the campsite as well.
I posted my latest Wi-Fi Moments video earlier today. It includes my first 8-player sumo battle, some fun with leaf umbrellas, some arch-running antics, and more. I hope you’ll check it out! ๐
See you tomorrow with another entry! Have a great day, and Never Stop Crossing! ๐
Hey Jeff do you plan to make eventual slideshows with photos taken from New Horizons like in City Folk and New Leaf?
Good question. I’m not sure, though. I actually don’t use the screenshot feature as often as you might think, because I generally just take frames from videos I record, and save them for the blog. That way, you I don’t have to worry about timing the button press just right.
Hey, Jeff, thanks for the blog, itโs great!!
For those of us that donโt have the island designer tool yet, just so we can get an idea of what it does, can you maybe take a screenshot of what your landscape looked like before you changed the landscape and then what it looked like afterwards?
Thanks!!
I haven’t done much yet, so this isn’t a very dramatic example, but here’s a pic. I just trimmed the side of the cliff. ๐ The bottom pic shows pillars and water holes.
Thanks for doing this!!
No problem! Sorry it’s just a simplistic example, but you can put cliffs or water almost anywhere you want (except on the beach and plaza). There may be some other limitations too (especially with cliffs), but it gives you a lot of freedom!
I think you can customize the wheel to make it playable.
My idea of a game: Customize the wheel to make it 90% lose, and 10% win. If you win, you can pick a prize from the prize section. If you lose, you have to do a challenge from the host.
You don’t have to do it, you know!
I wish I could join Friday night Forest, but I don’t have Nintendo Switch Online.
Nevermind, I found out that it’s not customizible, but I have a new game. The player decides if they want to pick an even number of a odd number. Say if they vote for an even number. If it lands on any even number, they’ll win. If they land on any odd number, they lose. You get the game now.
We tried out the wheel tonight, and unfortunately, everybody will see a different number (just as in New Leaf). So it’s not very useful for online games.
If you wish a lot the star fragments will spawn through out the day. But I havenโt figured out the cap.
I think the cap is around 20-30!
Youโll be able to request from K.K. on future Saturdays! Also, despite not playing much today because of a SSBU tournament, I managed to catch a golden trout and a coelacanth in about 2 hours!
Lucky!
