Treasure Hunt

Claudia has officially moved into town today. And I officially do not like her. 😛

Claudia: And who might you be? A pleasure to meet you. I just moved here today myself. Call me Claudia.

She instantly becomes my 2nd-least favorite villager; only Rizzo is worse. Claudia didn’t mention coming from another town, so maybe she was just a random move-in. But if she mentions a previous town she lived in, I’ll be sure to post it in a future entry.

I paid off Lloid, so that my new bridge can be completed by tomorrow. 🙂

Lloid: May I have 1 bell as a donation, friend?

Over by my first bridge, Marcel taught me a new reaction: bashfulness.

I learned the Bashfulness Reaction! Uhuhuhuhuh...

I also inquired at town hall about moving Tia’s house. I wasn’t sure if it could be done when the bridge was unfinished, but it can! Tom Nook just needed 50,000 bells to do it.

Tom Nook: Around here our motto is 'You want it? You fund it!' So let's try this again when you have the money.

We had to check with Tia, but of course, she was fine with it. In fact, a little too fine with it.

Tia: Moving my entire home sounds like it'd be thrilling! I'd love to have you move it, oh banana.

I’m making her move her entire house, just about 20 feet away, and she’s thrilled with it? They’re such pushovers in this game. Why can’t she at least be a bit annoyed by the inconvenience? Let me just say that I’m not a fan of the dialogue in New Horizons. In fact, from what I’ve seen of the game so far, I’d say the dialogue is the worst in the series.

Anyway, I found Midge on the beach, with a thought bubble above her head. She asked if I wanted to play a treasure-hunting game! I sure do!

Midge: How'd you like to play a treasure-hunting game with me right now?

The original GameCube game had treasure hunts, where an animal would bury an item somewhere in town. They would post a message on the bulletin board telling which acre to look for it in. This is a bit different, since the villager doesn’t give any hints…but they do give you a time limit to find it. Midge gave me six minutes, but I only needed about one.

I found treasure!

When I returned it to Midge, she gave me a do-rag as a prize.

Midge: Jeff, your prize is a do-rag!

I later ran into Wisp on the cliff, and I collected his five spirits for him. When I returned them, I asked Wisp for something new.

Wisp: OK! You got it! Something new... Something you don't have yet...

So I was surprised that he, too, gave me a do-rag!

Wisp: Here, have... a do-rag!

Wisp must be a liar, because his “expensive” rewards aren’t expensive (remember my cardboard box?), and his “new” rewards aren’t new.

After that, I began working on my obstacle course for a while. I’m having a lot of fun making it! I got it at least half-way done, but I could only build as far as Tia’s house. (It will apparently be moved by tomorrow morning).

Have a great day, and I’ll see you next time!

Island Designer!

As expected, K.K. Slider came to town for his first Forest performance tonight. However, I was a bit surprised that the concert started automatically when I started up the game. It’s not like previous games where you can go attend his show when you want.

K.K.: Right on. This one goes out to all you cool cats on Forest. I call it Welcome Horizons.

He performed the song “Welcome Horizons” for…well, the whole town, basically. As the credits roll, the camera spins around (much like K.K.’s performances on GameCube), and various weather conditions occur (leaves blowing, snowflakes fly by, etc.).

The credits roll in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as K.K. Slider performs.

After the show, Tom Nook met me at my house to give me a copy of the song. He also informed me that K.K. would be playing here every Saturday evening. That wasn’t surprising…but Tom Nook did have a big surprise for me. He sent me the Island Designer app!!!

Tom Nook: The app I've just sent you is called Island Designer!

I had been assuming I would need to get to a level five island first, but that’s not the case! While paths were the only designing option initially, I was able to use Nook Miles to unlock the waterscaping permit and the cliff construction permit. There are also other path designs available, but I didn’t spring for them just yet. Still, I’m really excited that I unlocked this! It’s times like this that I’m glad I try to avoid spoilers on how things are unlocked, because it’s great to be surprised! 🙂

If you’ve been reading this blog regularly, you can probably guess the first thing I used the island designer app for. I filled it that one tiny square of river so I can finally put a bridge just west of my house. I didn’t pay it off just yet, but I will soon…probably tomorrow.

Jeff picks out a spot for a new log bridge in ACNH.

Just a quick note that I want to thank TZ for sending me an Aries rocking chair, and thanks to Alex for sending me a colorful wheel. He said it may come in handy for online games, but I’ll have to make sure it works differently than it has in the past. In New Leaf, it showed a different number to each player! If it still works that way, it won’t be helpful. But I’ll give it a try!

I found a lost item on the ground, and it belonged to Tia (the first person I asked about it). As my reward for returning it, she gave me a safety helmet. It wasn’t much different from the hat I wear when using the island designer app.

Tia: A safety helmet...

I found eight star fragments on the beach today (after wishing on several shooting stars last night). So I was finally able to make my Bunny Day wand…which I then put in storage.

But it wasn’t all good news today. I checked my empty house plot and I saw that Claudia is moving in! Ugh! She may be a rejected villager from someone who visited for Friday Night Forest last night. 😛 That’s how I also got Claudia in New Leaf…from an online visitor.

This spot reserved for Claudia's new home. -Nook Inc.

After I was done making my rounds, I experimented with the island designer tools a bit. I haven’t made any major changes yet (though I trimmed the west edge of my cliff a bit).

Jeff uses the island designer app to remove part of a cliff in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Nintendo Switch.

But I’ve pretty much decided to use the west edge of town for some type of obstacle course (or game). But a lot of work needs to be done first, so it’s not going to be done in a day or two. I will definitely need to move Tia’s house, and possibly the campsite as well.

I posted my latest Wi-Fi Moments video earlier today. It includes my first 8-player sumo battle, some fun with leaf umbrellas, some arch-running antics, and more. I hope you’ll check it out! 🙂

See you tomorrow with another entry! Have a great day, and Never Stop Crossing! 🙂

3 Stars, 3rd FNF

Louie wanted to help out with Project K, so he gave me a garbage pail. 😛 I put it next to Marcel’s house.

Outside of town hall, I was surprised to run into Kicks. I guess I didn’t even realize he was in this game. He was selling shoes, socks, purses, and backpacks. I bought an extra-large backpack from him, and I put it on. It did not increase my pocket storage, though. 😛

Kicks: If it's awright with you, why not take a look-see at my offerings on this fine day?

I went inside of town hall to check on my town rating. Isabelle told me that Forest is now a 3-star island! ⭐⭐⭐

The best part is that K.K. Slider has taken notice of my island, and he’s going to show up tomorrow! Wow, that’s quicker than I was expecting!

I ran into Shari outside, and she taught me the “apologetic” reaction. It makes my character frown, close his eyes, and bow his head. I don’t think I’ll be adding this one to my reaction wheel.

I learned the apologetic reaction! Sorry I didn't know about this before!

Using the custom design app on my NookPhone, I designed a new pattern: It’s a pitfall seed. I also put it up as my new town flag. 😛

My pitfall seed design.

After that, I used a Nook Miles Ticket to visit another mystery island. I still have an empty house plot, so I thought I’d give it one more try to see if I found someone I liked. The island was the spiral-shaped one again, and Graham the hamster was there. He’s not bad, and I wouldn’t be upset if he was a random move-in… but he’s not someone I wanted to specifically ask to move to town either. So I didn’t invite him.

Graham: I'm here on vacation, soaking in the vibes. And you're Jeff from Forest, right?

When I returned to Forest, I ran into Celeste on the beach. She gave me a recipe for a starry-sky wall, but it requires star fragments that I don’t have. The next time I have a meteor shower, I’m going to have to do lots of wishing.

At 10:00 p.m., I opened my gate for Friday Night Forest. Logan, Ros, Megan, Alex, Alex (yes, there were two Alexes), Jesse, and Marlie came over. I had a little something planned in the western part of town, so we grabbed some umbrellas and fluttered like leaves in the wind. 😉

Eight players hold leaf umbrellas in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Unfortunately, we all got disconnected shortly after that. I reopened, and as the 3rd person was re-joining, we got disconnected again.

So I tried again. Jesse, Ros, Patrick, Timo, Alex, Forge, and Alex joined. I had the sumo ring set up for a special 8-player round of sumo!

An eight-player round of pitfall sumo!

Forge ended up winning, and I felt good to get 3rd place. 😛 We only did one round of sumo, because even one round takes a minimum of 7 pitfall seeds! And I wanted to save a few for later…

We then had some fun running through my Bunny Day arches. Position your camera just right and it’s more entertaining than you might egg-spect.

Running through Bunny Day arches.

Ros, Alex, and Jesse taught me how to spam emotions. I mean, reactions. From your wheel, press Y to see all of your reactions listed. Then press Y again to test each one. You can press it repeatedly to spam it quickly. Very helpful! Well, helpful in annoying people maybe, lol, but helpful all the same! 😀

On a couple of different occasions tonight, I managed to pitfall a couple of people. That includes Ros and Patrick here, when I pointed out where Tia was after some of my visitors said they hadn’t met her yet. 😀

Ros and Patrick fall into pitfalls.

There were some occasional shooting stars flying by, and I made sure to wish on a few of them.

We played some outdoor hide-and-seek, and Ros and Timo successfully stayed hidden from the two seekers for the duration of the game. Since it seemed to take too long, we tried museum tag next. But Patrick left before we started.

Alex was the seeker, and I suggested that anyone who is found retreat to the lobby. And the seeker will keep going until he finds everyone, or until a timer ran out. I was hiding behind a tree in the bug room, but it didn’t take Alex long to find me and a few others. As he was still seeking, Hayley joined in, and the timer ran out.

After a few minutes of confusion, it was suggested that everyone look for the last two remaining hiders, Ros and Jesse. I was actually the one that found Ros; she was using her hair color to blend in, down in the submarine room. Smart move!

Ros hides in the museum.

Not far away, I also ran into Jesse!

Tagging Jesse in a game of museum tag.

Ros then left, and we decided to do one last round. It was suggested that we play zombie tag, where once we’re tagged, we become a zombie and also join the hunt for the remaining players. I asked who wanted to seek, and nobody volunteered, so I said I would seek and I went outside to count. Once I counted to ten, I asked someone to set a timer. They did, and then Forge announced that he was seeking? I’m not sure what that was all about, but I just went with it and became a hider…until I was found and became a zombie. 😛

After a short while, the timer went off, and I believe everyone was found…but it’s not always clear. Eight-player museum tag is honestly a bit confusing. Some were claiming they weren’t tagged, and it’s hard to keep straight who’s who, who’s hiding, who’s seeking…even though we did ultimately agree that seekers would wear hats. Personally, I’ve started to lose interest in museum tag already.

Just as I was about to end the session, Stacie joined in. I didn’t want to kick her out as soon as she got here, so I decided to stay on a bit longer. We took some group photos at a few locations around town.

Taking a group photo in ACNH.

Eventually, I ended the session. Thanks for coming, everyone! It was fun! 🙂 I’m going to try to get Wi-Fi Moments #3 up tomorrow, so keep an eye out for that.
