First Golden Rose

Nook’s Cranny had a throwback race-car bed for sale (like the three that Keaton has in his house), so I bought it.

Timmy: Seems like you're interested in a throwback race-car bed.
I will drive into my sleep.

I later discovered that it can not be customized, so the different-colored beds are just separate items. I don’t quite understand why the game handles some things as different items, and other things as different customizations of the same item. Oh well. 🚗

In my flower garden, my first golden rose has bloomed!

My first gold rose in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

In previous games, you always needed a golden watering can to make a gold rose. And after a quick search, many sites say you still do. But when I asked on Twitter, some people said they also got gold roses without being watered by a golden can…perhaps due to a glitch?

Of course, there’s also the chance that someone at Friday Night Forest watered my black roses with a golden can…but I would hope nobody would do that without asking. I always like to achieve things on my own in Animal Crossing games, and making golden roses is (for me) usually one of the late-game goals I have. I would not be happy if this was due to someone I invited into my town, denying me the opportunity to achieve that on my own. But I don’t have any evidence of that, so hopefully that’s not the case.

Perhaps the sites that say the golden can is required, are just mistaken. They could be assuming that’s how it is, because that’s how it operated in previous games. The game is still new, and some of those sites that post guides (sadly) don’t always test or confirm the things they post. Perhaps in time, there will be people who test these things and they’ll reach a consensus. But there’s still a lot of conflicting information out there right now.

The next time I went in Nook’s Cranny, I saw Claudia the tiger looking intently at the paper tiger that was for sale!

Tiger, meet tiger.

Midge was crafting in her house, and she gave me a DIY recipe for a tiny library. Look how cute it is!

A message bottle I found contained a DIY recipe for a golden toilet! Pretty cool, but it requires six gold nuggets. That’s a lot! Gold nuggets are too rare for me to use six of them on a toilet right now. I’m sure I’ll make it at some point in the future, though.

I’m surprised Rizzo’s picture isn’t a required ingredient. 😉

I spotted Tia over by town hall, and I tried talking to her…but I kept hitting her with the net instead! It certainly wasn’t on purpose, and I’m not even sure why it kept hitting her when the 2nd and 3rd times were standing right next to her. But I apologized anyway, and she forgave me.

Tia: Cupcake... Right now, my heart is broken, and I'm hurting. (Response: I'm very sorry.)

Apple was trying to fish, and she was talking to the fish, trying to convince them to bite. 😀 Apple certainly is cute.

Apple: Hey! Little fishies! I'm going to be famous someday. Come get your picture taken with me!

Once I was done making my rounds, I started up the island designer app. I removed my jumping pillars from Friday, and I reshaped my flower garden to accommodate some new paths up to town hall. The garden isn’t as wide as it was before, but now it goes back farther. Here’s the before and after pics:

I also continued the path around town hall, connecting it to all of the bridges. I think I may need to move Shari’s house, because it’s right in the way of the straight line between two bridges. I’ll do that another day, though. But for now, it feels good just to have made some progress in my town. 🙂

See you all next time! 🙂

Quiet Night

In Nook’s Cranny tonight, Apple said the store was so warm and cozy that she sometimes naps in there!

Apple: This store is so warm and cozy... sometimes I find a quiet corner and take a nap!
You better hope they don’t call an exterminator while you sleep.

K.K. was in town, and I was surprised to find a crowd around him. Tia, Louie, Rizzo, and Agent S were already there when I joined. I asked K.K. for a random song, and he performed K.K. Milonga for us.

Next to my house, I think I spotted a gold rosebud! If I’m not mistaken, perhaps my first golden rose will be blooming tomorrow.

Not much else was going on today, and I didn’t play as long as usual. But I think that’s normal for me; sometimes I need a nice quiet, uneventful day to recover after a long Friday Night Forest.

But since this entry is shorter, I will post a bonus picture from last night. I really liked the way the sky looked, with the moon and the clouds. Enjoy, and I’ll see you next time!

Pillar Jumping

Thursday

Yesterday, Able Sisters had a football shirt for sale. Even though it’s technically red, the front panel looks orange to me. I put it on for now.

I found a lost item, a book, next to the toilet outside Rizzo’s house! Someone must have been reading it while they used the toilet!

When I asked Claudia about the book, she said it looked like Hornsby’s type of thing. I showed it to Hornsby, and he said it was his diary! He thanked me for returning it, and gave me a wrestler uniform.

Today, I’m “crafting” a custom gift for Rizzo as I write this diary entry. Almost done…!

Redd’s ship was docked on the northern beach, so I went inside to check out what he had. I felt pretty confident that the serene painting was legit, so I bought it.

I decided to put in a new bridge. And this time, I sprung for a stone bridge…which looks so much nicer than the log bridges. I put it in the northern part of town, connecting the east part (near Midge’s house) with the north-central part (near Rizzo’s house). It’s not far from a waterfall, so I think it’ll look really nice there. I also remembered to pay off the bridge before the day ended. 😛

Even though it’s been quite a while since I unlocked the island designer app, I still hadn’t used it to make paths around town. But that has now begun to change. I started with a horizontal path in the south-central part of town; it connects my house, Nook’s Cranny, the museum, airport, and both southern bridges.

Friday

I got my serene painting in the mail from Redd, but I realized I made a huge mistake after talking to Blathers. No, the painting wasn’t fake, but I already had the serene painting! I was so focused on picking out a painting that looked legitimate that I failed to see which paintings I already had. Dumb mistake on my part. 🤦

Rizzo taught me the agreement reaction, but I didn’t thank him. All I did was smile and nod.

I then attended the completion ceremony for my new bridge. From here, you can get a good look at it…including the two waterfalls in the background.

When I visited Tia at her house, I saw that Apple was also visiting. So I was rather surprised when Tia said she could have made an apple strudel! Watch out, Apple! Tia wants to eat you!

Tia: If only I'd known I was going to have company drop by like this... I could have made an apple strudel!

There was a visitor at the campsite, and I didn’t browse for long.
Because as soon as I saw Hazel, I was going, going gone!

Jeff is shocked to see Hazel at the campsite.

As I got my net out to catch a bug that was on a tree stump, Rizzo went over to the stump and plopped his mouse butt down on the bug!

Rizzo sits on a bug in ACNH.

The bug wasn’t hurt, and in fact, it wasn’t even scared! It wasn’t until Rizzo got up off the tree stump that the bug flew away!

Friday Night

Around 10:00, I opened my gate for Friday Night Forest. Logan, Marlie, Timo, Dylan, Jesse, Jeremiah, and Ryan came over to visit. After Marlie was the unlucky victim of a pitfall, we headed over to the sumo ring for some leaf sumo. (I covered the sumo ring with piles of leaves.) 😛

I announced that, for once, I actually had a prize for the tournament winner: a serene painting! The match between Timo and Jeremiah resulted in the first true draw I’ve seen in New Horizons sumo. Even when I looked at my recording frame by frame, both players fell at the exact same time. This is the frame where dust clouds first appeared under both players.

The first round winners were Jesse, Ryan, Jeremiah, and Marlie. I had to go back to my house to get more pitfall seeds, and I returned to find Timo releasing more coelacanths and oarfish into my pond! A couple minutes later, I cut down a tree that fell on Timo. 😛

In the sumo semifinals, Jeese beat Jeremiah and Marlie beat Ryan. Jesse then beat Marlie in the finals, winning the serene painting.

After that, we did some pillar jumping. These are temporary pillars that I set up before opening my gate, just so that we could jump around. I thought it would be fun. 😀

Jumping from pillar to pillar.

When we were done there, I let everyone browse over to see my camper. 😛 However, Jesse got disconnected and that kicked us all back to the airport. And Jesse quickly returned.

We hung out in my house for a bit, and then I suggested a bug-hunting competition. I set my timer for five minutes, and I quickly noticed a big problem: There are hardly any bugs when playing online!

Jeremiah won with TWO bugs! I barely caught one (a mole cricket right before time expired)! I really hope this isn’t the case with summer tree beetles!

Next up, we played some museum tag (by popular request). Logan and I were apparently the worst hiders, because we kept getting found over and over. 😛 But the game went well, so I was happy about that.

Jeff, to Logan: Got you!

About midnight, I ended the session…but I told everyone I may reopen with a Dodo Code (and to check Twitter for it). This time, Megan, Timo, Maria, Marlie came over. Timo started releasing a bunch more oarfish and coelacanths into the pond! 😮

I gave Megan and Maria a quick tour of my obstacle course, and then they raced on it (Maria won). Marlie and Timo were in mid-race, when Jesse returned. Timo won the re-match, and then Jesse raced Megan.

Iggy joined in, and we did some more pillar jumping.

After Jesse again disconnected and returned, I decided to call it a night. Thanks to all who came, it was fun! Have a good night, and I’ll see you next time! 🙂
