Dynamic Painting

I received my dynamic painting in the mail from Redd, and I rushed it over to the museum. Good news, everyone! It’s real! 🙂 It was on display in the glass partition, and Hornsby was already there admiring it!

Hornsby: I get seasick in real life, but I never get sick of seeing this painting, a huh huh huh!

Lopez put me to sleep today…literally! He taught me the dozing reaction, although I just slept through whatever he said about it. 😉

I learned the dozing reaction! Zzz... Zzz...

Leif was in town, and I bought some red windflower seeds from him. That allowed me to finish up what I needed near Rizzo’s house.

The daily glowing spot was in Sudden Valley for the third day in a row today. I know I said it seems to be there nearly half the time, but now I’m wondering if it’s more than half the time.

Down on the beach tonight, I caught my first goliath beetle. Even though I’ve seen one or two prior to tonight, I didn’t catch them. But I got this one, and he will live in my museum forever.

I caught a goliath beetle! Am I a legend or what?

After making my rounds, I started up the island designer app once again. I spent a lot of time on my western cliff, trying to figure out what I wanted to do with it. I went back and forth, and my ideas weren’t quite working out.

As I took a little break, I had a chat with Midge. She wanted my scorpion that I just caught. In return, she offered some bottom-rimmed glasses! For a scorpion!

Midge: Is that...? I think it is! You've got a scorpion!
Midge: Do you think you might part with it, for me? Not for free! I'd trade you my bottom-rimmed glasses...

Since I like Midge, I agreed to the trade…even though it’s probably the worst trade I’ve been a part of in New Horizons to date. Yeowch, she better give me her picture soon after this. 😉

As for island changes, I decided to move the campsite (again). This time, I wanted it up on the cliff…not the top level, though. I tried out sooo many locations, but nothing was looking right or fitting right. I had to reshape the cliffs a number of times, but I eventually decided on a good spot (after about an hour of indecision). I also put in a new incline. I’m not ready to show the area yet, but perhaps tomorrow, once the campsite and ramp are installed.

Secret Path

There was a camper in town today, and it was a person in a bunny suit! Francine, to be specific…although I’ve liked calling her Frankengaga since the City Folk days. 😛 I had no interest in inviting her to move in.

Last night’s wishes resulted in me finding three regular star fragments and one large star fragment on the beach today.

Redd was in town, and I took a chance on a dynamic painting. I also bought an old-fashioned alarm clock from Redd. (I later gave the clock to Keaton as a gift).

Redd: Can't get that one out of your mind? I know just what that's like. But I say why get it out of your mind at all?

The island-designing bug has bitten me once again. I put in a new “secret” path that starts off just to the west of Lopez’s house (near the waterfall) and goes north back to the private beach (and today, Jolly Redd’s ship). While it isn’t completely hidden, I think it would be easy to miss if you weren’t looking for it.

My secret path as seen from a nearby bridge.

Here’s another viewpoint from a higher location. It’s obviously easier to see from here.

A better look at my secret path.

And this is the view from the path itself, about halfway through.

My secret path that leads to the private beach, and in this case, Jolly Redd's ship.

I’ve had this idea in my head for a while, but one thing bothered me about it: You can’t build bridges over land (only over water). But since the path is only space wide, I am still able to jump across the gap. So it’s not really an inconvenience if you’re walking on the cliff.

If I moved the entrance over a few spaces to the right, I could plant a tree in front of it. That would make it even more hard to spot (from the lower level, at least). But I’m not sure if I’ll do that or not. It’s not like I’m hiding a buried treasure of a million bells back there. 😛 So it’s obviously not a necessity…but I may still consider it. For now, I like it how it is.

As for other changes I have in mind, I still don’t have any inclines in the western half of the island. That’s something I’d like to change, although I don’t have any idea where I’ll put them just yet. I might not do that this week…but I’m not sure. I’ll just see if I’m in a designing mood or not. 😛

There is one thing I have decided, though: I want the top cliff on the west to stay relatively unchanged. Keaton’s house will stay there, as will the many cedar trees. Perhaps I could put in some camping related items, but I want Eagle Mountain to remain as natural as possible.

Thanks for reading today’s entry! See you next time!

First Villager Photo

When I stopped over at Hornsby’s house today, Apple was also there visiting. But the weird part is that they were both standing by the door, but facing away from the door, looking to the far corner of the room. What were they staring at??

Hornsby and Apple stare into a corner of the room.

I’ve been noticing something interesting about my daily glowing spot. Very frequently, it shows up in Sudden Valley. In fact, it seems to be there nearly half the time!

The daily glowing spot appears in Sudden Valley.

I found Rizzo sitting on the chair next to Agent S’s house. So I (temporarily) dug up the flower in front of the chair, and buried a pitfall seed. I had to wait about two minutes for him to finish reading the sentence he was on, but it was worth it. He eventually got down and fell right into the pitfall. 😀

Rizzo falls into a pitfall in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Update: I just realized that I wasted a pitfall seed there. Since he was on the chair, he would’ve had the same reaction just falling into a hole. Oops!

There was another meteor shower tonight, so I wished on several shooting stars.

Up on the cliffs, I started my island designer app. I’ve decided to recreate a landmark that’s in some old Zelda games, A Link to the Past in particular. No, it’s not a Triforce pond; it’s something more subtle that not everyone will remember: Spectacle Rock.

Spectacle Rock in Forest (Animal Crossing: New Horizons). It is a recreation of a landmark in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

I know this isn’t the most exciting addition, but I’ve been struggling to figure out how to use that previously bare spot of land. And I like the Zelda reference. As a bonus trivia fact, it’s in roughly the same spot on the map as the Spectacle Rock in A Link to the Past. 😉

I destroyed two rocks to put Spectacle Rock there, but if any rocks reappear on top of Spectacle Rock, I may leave them. They could represent the eyes in the spectacles! 👀

Just to let you know, Spectacle Rock wasn’t the only layout change I have planned. More changes are coming.

I ran into Tia tonight, and she asked me to catch a violin beetle for her.

Tia: Could you catch me a violin beetle?

Since I have two tree stumps between my house and Nook’s Cranny, I end up seeing violin beetles pretty often. Less than four minutes later, I had the bug for her. I took it over to her, and I was shocked by my reward: Her photo!

This is my first villager photo in New Horizons, and I’m glad it’s from Tia! I put it in my house and hung it on the wall. The quote on the back is “Tea is a cup of life.” 🙂

Back outside, Louie asked me if I ever visit Apple’s house. He said she makes the best hot cider! 🍎😂

Louie: That hot cider drink she makes... It's really, really good, oh banana.
Does she make it when you give her a squeeze?

After a few minutes of fishing, I wrapped up my game for the night. See you next time! 🙂
