September Bug-Off

The final Bug-Off of the year was held today, so I made sure to participate. On my first attempt, I caught 12 bugs and scored 14 points.

Flick: Well done. You earned 14 points!

I tried several more times, scoring 12 points, 10 points, 11 points, and 10 points. It seemed like almost every round, I started off well, with 5-6 bugs in the first minute. And then the bug supply seemed to dry up. 😛

I redeemed my points for some prizes: Flick gave me a toy cockroach, two bug aloha shirts, two artisanal bug cage, and a spider web. The duplicates were not different color variations; they were identical.

I also earned 2,000 Nook Miles for participating in my 4th Bug-Off.

After a busy night of wishing on shooting stars last night, I found a bunch of star fragments on the beach today. That included 17 regular star fragments, one large star fragment, and two Libra fragments.

When I visited Lopez, he said there was something cool about what I was wearing, and he wasn’t talking about the fabric. Apparently, he likes my skull.

Lopez: There's something very cool about what you're wearing today, and I don't mean the fabric.

Poor, naive Hornsby… He thought that the bugs we caught at the Bug-Off get set free at the end of the night. 😂 I didn’t have the heart to tell him I sold them all for cash. 😉

Hornsby: Guess the Bug-Off is over, huh? It's time to let the bugs we caught go home.

I posted another video today, this one sharing my thoughts on the Halloween trailer that Nintendo posted yesterday.

See you all next time! Have a great day!

Heavy Meteor Shower

When I started the game up tonight, I was surprised to see Isabelle informing me of shooting stars! She doesn’t normally do this, and it almost seemed like a tutorial. She described how to move the R stick to adjust the camera, and then press A to wish on a star. As if I haven’t done this hundreds of times already!

Isabelle: Right now, at this very moment, the sky above Forest is full of shooting stars!

But there apparently was a reason for her announcing this. This wasn’t a regular meteor shower. There were tons of shooting stars, often coming mere seconds apart, one after another. I surely racked up many dozens of wishes tonight.

The plaza was unusually crowded for a non-event night, with five villagers and Label there.

Midge, Agent S, Lopez, Tia, Jeff, Hornsby, and Label crowd the plaza outside of town hall.

As for Label, she wanted to see me in a work outfit. She gave me a doctor’s coat as an example. But I decided to try out the chef’s outfit that I got from Tia about five minutes before. Labelle seemed to like it, and she told me she’d be sending me a tailors ticket in the mail…but she didn’t give me one of her exclusive items. So I guess it wasn’t good enough, at least not without a matching hat.

Moments later, I was quite happy to find Celeste in town!

Jeff wishes on a shooting star as Celeste watches.

She gave me a D.I.Y. recipe for a Libra scale. Right now I care more about getting the space items over the astrological furniture, but I’ll take it.

If you haven’t heard the news, Nintendo unveiled a teaser for the Halloween update coming September 30th. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on it tomorrow, but it got me in more of a Halloween mood. I started thinking about (temporary) changes I could make to my town for Halloween, and I have several ideas already. They won’t be major changes, but they should help get Forest ready for the season. 🎃

Midge gave me a free dolly, so I may even use that as part of my decorations.

I posted New Horizons Moments #3 today. It’s a compilation of my best and funniest one-player clips/moments from the past month. I hope you enjoy it!

The last Bug-Off of the year is coming up tomorrow, so I’ll be back with another entry then! Have a great weekend!

Almost June

I said there wouldn’t be a blog entry yesterday unless something major happened. And it almost, almost did. That’s because June the bear cub, who I think is one of the cutest villagers in the series, was at the campsite.

Jeff greets June, the cute bear cub, in a tent at the campsite.

I wanted her. I played her games to try to get her to move into Forest. I kept losing repeatedly, but eventually she agreed to move in! But of course, there was a problem: There is no vacancy in town. She asked around at Resident Services, and she heard that Tia would be willing to move out to make room for her.

June: Apparently, someone named Tia might be thinking about moving.

Oof. As much as I would love to add June to my island, I was not willing to force out Tia. I told her no, and gave it another try (after another long batch of mini-game attempts), but she again said Tia was the one willing to move out. So June’s arrival was cancelled. 🙁

Gulliver was in town, so I dug up the five pieces of his communicator and returned them to him. I earned 1,000 Nook Miles because that was the 20th time I helped him out.

Today, I got my letter from Gulliver. He sent me this candy-skull mask, which looks scarier than it sounds.

Jeff tries on the candy-skull mask from Gulliver.

Louie sent me a work of art, a basic painting! Even though it turned out to be a fake, that’s a nice gift to send. I took a picture of it for future reference when dealing with Redd.

Alex from Pawnee also sent me a letter, and he sent me a pirate-treasure robe. I’ve been adamant about not wanting help with Gulliver/Gullivarrr items and I’ve repeatedly turned down offers for pirate items. But when it’s sent to you in a letter, there’s no way you can decline the item.

I mailed the robe back to Alex, but I really hope having the item in my inventory/catalog doesn’t affect when Gullivarrr gives it to me. For example, if he only gives items that have not been in my possession first (like it’s been reported on Reddit), then I’d have to wait until the next time through his cycle of rewards, and that could delay me from getting the robe from him by many months. If that’s the case, I would not be a happy pirate…and I may make Alex walk the plank. 💀

You may think the way I play is weird, wanting to earn things on my own like that. But if you can’t respect the way I play, then at least don’t interfere with things and make things harder for me than they need to be. When in doubt, ASK FIRST.

Today was Apple’s birthday, so I headed over to her birthday party. Keaton was also there to help her celebrate. I gave her a birthday present: a gift-wrapped apple! 🍎

Apple: Wow! You got me an apple?!

Saharah was in town, and I purchased some items from her. I ended up with an ivory medium round mat, green shaggy rug, meadow vista, and cloud flooring. I kept all of them except the green shaggy rug.

I’ve changed my mind about tomorrow: No Friday Night Forest this week. But I will be posting New Horizons Moments #3 tomorrow.
