Halloween

Happy Halloween, everyone! Once the festivities started this evening, Louie was the first one to approach me. He was wearing devil horns, and he came running towards me like in the old games. However, villagers do not automatically start a conversation in this game! So there’s not really a sense of danger, since you can just choose to not speak to anyone if you wish.

Louie: Trick or treat!

But since I had 29 pieces of candy saved up, I did talk to him. I gave him candy, and in return, he gave me a spooky garland. But he also did something else…he taught me the scare reaction!

Louie: Get ready... YOUR MUSCLES ARE GETTING SMALLER!

Tybalt was the next villager I ran into. In return for candy, he gave me a lollipop.

Near the plaza, I found Jack, the czar of Halloween himself! I gave him a piece of candy, and he gave me Jack’s robe. He then asked me to bring him lollipops. But first, he taught me the haunt reaction.

Jack: YOU'RE REGRET IT, PUMPKIN!

That also earned me 3,000 Nook Miles for learning 42 reactions. When I gave Jack the lollipop, he rewarded me with a spooky carriage! This thing is huge (3×3 spaces)! I had a hard time finding a place it would fit…even outdoors!

I continued giving candy to villagers, and lollipops to Jack. My rewards were as follows. Items marked with an asterisk (*) are from Jack.

  • spooky table setting
  • spooky rug
  • spooky flooring
  • spooky carriage DIY recipe*
  • spooky wall
  • spooky garland DIY recipe
  • spooky table setting DIY recipe
  • spooky wand recipe*
  • Jack’s face*

After that, I started getting duplicates.

FYI, the spooky carriage recipe requires a LOT of materials: 30 orange pumpkins, 20 pieces of hardwood, 20 pieces of regular wood, 20 pieces of softwood, and 10 iron nuggets.

Note: Indoor villagers will give you candy.

Keaton: That costume is to DIE for. You've definitely earned the candy I'm about to give you, on a cliff.

And Midge had the cutest Halloween costume, wearing an animal suit.

Midge: Trick or treat!

Okay, so naturally, I wondered what the tricks were that everyone kept threatening me with. So I dropped my candy and any items worth keeping on the ground, and I spoke with Hornsby. He said “Wha? You don’t have any candy!” and he did not play any pranks on me!

So there is nothing to fear if you don’t have any candy. They won’t do anything to you unless you have candy, and purposely refuse to give them any. So that begs the question, what if you do purposely refuse them candy? I went back to grab my candy, when I saw ants all over my candy!

Ant lined up to take my candy.

I got my net out, caught one, and donated it to the museum. I then went back and refused to give Rizzo some candy. He messed me up and turned me into a blue mummy!

Jeff the ref...or the blue mummy?

I tried it again with Hornsby, and he turned me green! But I used a mirror to change myself back and continued to give away candy. I kept getting more duplicates, although I quickly found out that you can also get pumpkins from villagers.

Tia: In return, I'd like to give you... 10 orange pumpkins!

If you wear Jack’s robe and Jack’s face, villagers will think you’re Jack and give you a piece of candy (even outdoor villagers). They then realize that you’re just wearing a Jack costume, but they still let you keep the piece of candy.

Midge: Good job, scaring me like that! You should keep that candy. You earned it, fly with me!

Overall, Halloween in New Horizons is considerably easier than in previous games. I got everything in under half an hour, and there’s no real risk of messing things up. But it’s still fun, and it’s significantly better than the Bunny Day event.

Later on, I went over to Logan’s island for his Halloween party. Nami, Alex from Pawnee, Jj, and Jesse were also there… Or should I say Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, and Jack?

Logan gave us a tour of his town, including a number of new areas for Halloween. I particularly enjoyed his skeleton band.

Later on, Megan joined in and we took a group photo at town hall.

We had a fun time at Logan’s Halloween party. Thanks, Logan! I’ll be sure to include some clips from the party in a future Wi-Fi Moments video.

I hope you all had a Happy Halloween! 🎃

Update: Here is the video. Enjoy!

Rosetta Stone, FNF

Yesterday, Redd’s ship was docked at the north beach. By comparing his works of art to my own previous screenshots, it looked like his serene painting was fake, his academic painting was also fake, and his informative statue was real. He also had a graceful painting that I wasn’t sure about. But since I still needed the informative statue for my museum, I went for the sure thing.

Nook’s Cranny was buying turnips for 138 bells apiece, so I sold my turnips for a total of 138,000 bells. It’s not a huge profit, but with Halloween things going on this week, I decided to just ensure a profit since I knew the next couple of days would be busy.

I updated my dream and then recorded my island tour for Halloween. If you’d like to see it, here is the video. It shows a couple of new things that have not been mentioned or shown in the blog before (mainly because they’re new). 😛

Today, I received the informative statue (the Rosetta Stone) from Jolly Redd. I took it over to the museum, and Blathers confirmed its authenticity.

Description of the informative statue: A stone slab found in Rosetta, Egypt in 1799. Helped efforts to decipher ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs.

I did a little diving, and I found a scallop. Pascal popped up and told me the reason why they don’t make movies like they used to. 😀

Pascal: They don't make movies like they used to. They probably can't. That equipment must be busted by now.

Bones told me that he saw Ros recently, and she was using a transformation wand to change outfits. Bones said that he would like to try doing that too.

Bones: DING! I'm a superhero! DING! I'm an astronaut! DING! I'm a princess! DING! I'm Bones!

Label was in town, and she again wanted to see me in some “vacation” clothing. She gave me a peasant blouse. I wasn’t sure what to wear with it, so I just put it on and asked her to judge me, as is. Of course, she wasn’t thrilled with the partial vacation outfit. But she’ll still be sending me a tailors ticket in the mail.

Agent S was thinking about moving out of town, but I quickly helped her change her mind.

Shortly after 10:00, I opened my gate for Friday Night Forest. Logan, Alex from Pawnee, and Xavier came over to visit. After some xylobone-playing, fountain fireworks, and a couple of pitfalls, I led them to my new ghost gallery.

Logan, Jeff, Xavier, and Alex hang out in the ghost gallery.

We went to The Bone Depot, where Bones taught us a DIY recipe for a golden dung beetle. After that, we hung out at the plaza for a bit and then competed in a Halloween race. Since we only had four players, I also competed. But Alex beat me in a close race. You can see him dropping his skeleton in this pic.

At about 10:30, Logan left for the night. We hung out at the campsite for a while, until Decco arrived. This was Decco’s first time visiting. We stood on one foot over by the museum…

But just four minutes after arriving, Decco left abruptly. 🤷 At the amusement park, Alex and I were playing foosball, while Xavier got a jackpot at the Brake Tapper machine!

We visited Midge, headed to Death Valley, and then went swimming and diving.

About 11:10, Alex had to go, so I just decided to end the session for the night. It was an unusually light crowd tonight. Of course, it is Halloween weekend, and there’s a Splatfest going on in Splatoon 2 as well. But thanks to everyone who came, I had fun. 🙂

Tomorrow is Halloween, and we’ll finally get to experience Halloween in New Horizons for the first time! 🎃 It should be fun! Check back tomorrow night for my blog entry. I’ll also be making a video, but the video probably won’t go up until Sunday. Happy Halloween weekend, everyone!

Getting Dressed Up

Halloween is getting really close now, and Isabelle and the Nooklings have started dressing up for the season. Isabelle is now wearing an orange-and-black striped witch hat, and the Nooklings are wearing hats to make them look like…animals. 😛

Isabelle and the Nooklings (Timmy and Tommy) are all dressed up for Halloween in ACNH.

I didn’t notice at first, but Mabel and Tom Nook were also dressed up, wearing impish horns. Thanks to Logan for pointing this out!

Orville joined in the fun as well! Thanks to Josh (aka JDTubeHD) for the heads-up!

There were also new Halloween decorations at town hall.

Two spooky towers sit outside of town hall.

Gullivarrr sent me my reward in the mail, and it was a pirate barrel. Even though I was hoping for another piece of the pirate outfit, I am happy with the pirate barrel. It’s a good thing to have on-hand.

C.J. was in town, and he had a fishing challenge for me: He wanted me to catch five fish in a row. That was easy enough! I got a bunch of fish out of storage and sold him a whole school of assorted fish.

The thirty fish that I sold to C.J.

I sold them for over 265k bells. That’s one of my biggest payouts from C.J.

C.J.: Oh, you got a whole school for me? All together that'll be... 265,950 bells. Deal?

The special characters weren’t the only animals wearing new headgear: I was amused to find Agent S wearing my “Where’s Waldo?” hat, over her helmet, in the shop. 😀

At 7:00 tonight, shooting stars started appearing. I wished on a few of them, and then I ran into Celeste up on the cliff! She gave me a D.I.Y. recipe for a Scorpio lamp. And I noticed that she wishes on shooting stars, too!

I’m going to work a bit more on my town later tonight, and hopefully, record my new town tour video tomorrow. There may not be a new entry tomorrow (unless something major and unexpected happens). As for the town tour, I’m not sure if I’ll be posting it tomorrow or Friday, but you can check my latest videos here.

I am currently planning on having Friday Night Forest this week, and we can have another Halloween race tournament. If anything changes before Friday night, I’ll edit this paragraph. Hope to see you all soon! 🎃
