FNF Dodo Night

Bones sent me this cute letter in the mail today. His math may be off by a bit, but I enjoyed his letter about letters.

Hey, Jeff? Did you know that books are just a buncha letters? And there's only, um, I gotta count... OK! There's only 104 letters. How do they make such big books with that few letters? Words are weird. -Bones

I ran into Rizzo at Nook’s Cranny, and he was looking at the broom and dustpan for sale. He said he used to have one, but it was ages ago!

Rizzo: A broom and dustpan? I think I used to have one of these...ages ago.

Doesn’t he clean his house? Won’t his house become infested with rats? Oh, wait…

Label was in town, and she again wanted to see me in vacation clothing. She gave me a peasant blouse; I put it on, along with some basketball shorts. But she still was not happy with the outfit. I don’t keep many pairs of pants/shorts in storage, and apparently none of the ones I have qualify as vacation-y. 😛

A bit before 10:00, I opened my gate using Dodo Codes for Friday Night Forest. Jac, Nicky, Logan, Ethan, Alex from Pawnee, Jet, and Sam came over to visit. After everyone checked out the free recipe pile, we headed over to the Halloween race course. Unfortunately, Jet got disconnected (I guess he had to jet) while I was still explaining the rules.

Clayton came over and took the free spot, and we went back to the Halloween course. As a bit of a surprise, I added a couple of pitfalls to the course for today. Each side of the race has two skeletons that racers must pick up. I put a pitfall in front of the skeleton on each side that was “easier” to reach. So today, taking the out-of-the-way skeleton would actually be an advantage…when normally, it would be a slight disadvantage.

Jac, Nicky, Alex, and Logan were the first contestants. Jac and Nicky, who both started on the left side of the course, had a bit of a traffic jam at the far water hole.

A traffic jam on the Halloween race course.

Nicky was returning while Jac was just arriving there. Nicky backed up to let Jac through, but that delay cost them both. Alex won the race, and Logan finished in 2nd place…so both of them advanced to the finals.

In the other semifinals, it was Clayton, Ethan, Sam…and instead of racing myself, I gave Nicky another chance. Clayton made it back to the start first, but Nicky actually beat him by dropping the skeleton first. But the two of them advanced to the finals.

For the final round, I added even more pitfalls and announced the grand prize: 50k bells and 30 gold nuggets. It was Alex, Logan, Clayton, and Nicky. Ultimately, Logan won the final race and claimed the prizes. Congrats, Logan! And good games, everyone!

After that, we took some group photos at Frog Pond. By the way, I don’t plan on keeping the pond this way (looking like a face, I mean).

We went to the sumo ring, but Hornsby was walking across the pits! As in previous games, animals are immune to pitfalls when playing online.

Hornsby safely walks over pitfalls.

We had a full tournament, and some spectators chose to sit up in the bleachers to watch the battles. 🙂

In the finals, it was King Logan defeating Cowboy Alex to win the tournament. Congrats again, Logan! We finished off with an 8-player sumo battle and Ethan won that. Congrats, Ethan!

After that, we hung out at my house for a bit, until Alex got disconnected. Jesse then came over; it’s his birthday today, so Happy Birthday Jesse!

Before long, Jac also disconnected…and then returned. Just after midnight, I decided to end the session for the night. Goodnight, everyone! There may not be an entry tomorrow unless something major happens. See you all next time!

Turnip Jackpot

Gulliver sent me my latest reward in the mail: a nutcracker. I suppose that’s a good thing to have around with Christmas coming up next month.

The nutcracker item from Gulliver in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

I also received a letter from Tia, thanking me for the birthday gift yesterday. She sent me a trench coat. 😛

At Nook’s Cranny, I grew very excited when I saw that today’s turnip price was 535 bells!

Timmy: The current price for turnips is 535 bells per turnip!

I ran home and grabbed my 1,100 turnips and took them back to Timmy. He bought them all for a grand total of 588,500 bells. Nice! I also earned 1,000 Nook Miles for the third stalk market achievement (earning over 100k in turnip profits).

Leif was in town, and he did have pumpkin starts for sale this time (not that I needed any). So he does still carry them outside of October, just not every time he visits.

Before it got dark, I straightened up my town a bit and updated my dream. I still had a few DIY recipes on the beach, and I still have some of my Halloween stuff up, but at least my town is semi-presentable this time. 😛 Just go to dream address 6717-1633-3682 to visit!

Later on, I added a few flowers (but not too many) to my new cliffs. Since most of the flowers were cosmos, the name “Cosmos Canyon” came to mind…but I’m not sure if I’m going to stick with that. 😛

Cosmos Canyon?

Since my shop had such a great price for turnips, I decided to share the wealth. Around 9:30, I posted a Dodo Code on Twitter and Youtube for anyone who wanted to sell some turnips. Caitlyn, Puo, Mr Egg, Liz, and Jan came over. As Calvin tried to join in, we all got disconnected. Oof.

I reopened, and Jan, Liz, Andy, Calvin, Benjamin, and JP9 came over…but by that point, there was only two more minutes until Nook’s Cranny closed! Several of the visitors also checked out my free DIY recipe pile, and I let a couple people get some fruit and pitfall seeds.

My visitors after they finished selling turnips.

Even though I said tipping wasn’t necessary, I still got some tips. JP9 actually gave me 90 gold nuggets, which I said I didn’t need, but he insisted… so I’ll probably use them as future game prizes.

I ended the session a few minutes after 10:00. I’m sorry if anyone didn’t get to sell their turnips (particularly before the disconnection), but I hope you all enjoyed your brief time in Forest and made some money and/or learned some new recipes. I may do this again sometime if I get a great turnip price…although I might do it differently. It would be much less chaotic if I just invited a few people at a time. It’s hard to get things done when there’s another person joining every two seconds. 😛

Anyway, I’ll be back tomorrow with another entry. I’ll be opening with a Dodo Code, but friends will get the first opportunity to join.

Once I get a full house, I’ll be hosting my final Halloween races before I remove the course. There will be two semifinals, with the top two finishers from each semifinal advancing to the final. Hope to see you then!

Tia’s Birthday, Winter Update

Gulliver was in town today, and I helped him out by finding the five pieces of his communicator for him. In return, he’ll send me a gift in the mail tomorrow.

Today is Tia’s birthday, so I made my way to her party (where Agent S was also in attendance). I gave her a mama bear that I bought at the store. Happy birthday, Tia!

Tia: Oh, with cream! You brought me a Mama bear!

When I visited Louie, he started talking about “Buster,” and I was really confused. But he told me that Buster is the name of his favorite bicep.

Louie: When I'm trying to get an apple from a tree, Buster never fails me.

Shortly before 10:00 tonight, I downloaded the new winter update. I received a letter from Nintendo thanking me, and a yule log was attached to the letter.

The yule log from Nitnendo.

I went in my house and went to bed to speak with Luna. She informed me that we can now visit “surprise” (random) dream islands. She asked if I would like to allow other people to visit my island when choosing to be surprised, and I said yes.

Luna: No Dream Address is needed. I will simply pluck a pleasant dream from the internet for you to experience.

However, agreeing to this also updates your dream town immediately! So my dream is now updated with my house littered with turnips, my town littered with free DIY recipes on the ground, and at nighttime. (I usually like to update my dream after cleaning up and in the daytime). I’ll have to try to clean up and update it properly tomorrow or the next day.

After that, I headed to town hall to take advantage of some other new features of the update. I spoke with Tom Nook, and he told me about the ability to upgrade my item storage. It requires 500,000 bells…immediately. He does not offer a loan for this upgrade. I got the money out of my account and paid him. My storage will be available tomorrow morning.

Tom Nook: Now, for various reasons, I can't offer a loan for this. You'll have to pay 500,000 bells up front.

Next, I went over to the Nook Stop. I redeemed 1,800 Nook Miles for the six new hairstyles, and another 2,700 Nook Miles for the new reactions. They include “sit down,” “wave goodbye,” “take a picture,” “sniff sniff,” “work out,” yoga, “here you go,” excited, and “ta-da.”

Animated GIF of Jeff using the work out emotion in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) for Nintendo Switch.

I really like the new emotions, but I think “sit down” has got to be my favorite. It has me thinking that maybe I don’t even need those benches at the top of the cliffs I made recently. People could just sit on the edge of the cliff and watch sumo.

Do you have a favorite part of the new update? Let me know in the comments!

Just FYI, I’m planning on having Friday Night Forest this week…but instead of opening for friends, I think I’ll use a Dodo Code to open for anyone. I still want to give friends the first chance to come in, though. So if you’re a regular to FNF (or someone I know), please message me (on Twitter or elsewhere) ahead of time* so I can let you know the Dodo Code before I post it publicly. When I do post it, it will probably be on Twitter…although I might also post it to the end of Thursday’s blog entry.

*(Note: Please message me on Friday, shortly before 10pm Eastern time. I can’t make promises to anyone now, because I’ll need to see who’s available at that time. And please keep in mind, regular visitors to Forest will get the first chance to join.)

See you all next time!
