Today is Toy Day (Christmas Eve), and Jingle the black-nosed reindeer was hanging out in town. I met up with him at the plaza, and he informed me that he forgot to bring the wrapping paper!
He gave me a DIY recipe for the wrapping paper, and surprisingly, it’s made out of ornaments. 😛 So I shook a tree to collect the ornaments and then crafted the required three sheets of paper. When I took them to Jingle, he rewarded me with a set of Toy Day stockings…which he hinted that I should hang up in my house.
Next, he had another task for me: He asked me to deliver gifts to all of the villagers in town. He gave me a magic bag full of presents. I went home to change into my Santa outfit, although it’s apparently not necessary since Jingle didn’t mention it at all.
The potential problem was that none of my villagers had given me any hints on what they wanted for Toy Day! But as I started making deliveries, I found out that it doesn’t matter. Each villager automatically gets the gift meant for them, so there’s no way to screw it up (unlike in New Leaf).
Another difference is that in New Horizons, the villagers know you’re not Santa. They can tell you’re just dressed up in a Santa suit.
I made all ten deliveries and then returned to Jingle. He gave me a DIY recipe for a gift pile, and he also gave me a Toy Day sleigh. So there’s not really a Toy Day (or Jingle) furniture set in New Horizons.
Even though I was done working for Jingle, I wasn’t done giving gifts. Villagers wanted to do separate gift exchanges with me as well (since the previous gifts were from Santa, not me).
So I took more gifts to each of my ten villagers.
In return, they had gifts for me as well. But they were all among the Toy Day gifts that Nook’s Cranny has been selling all month (the dinosaur toy, RC helicopter, dollhouse, etc.). The good news is that I got several different color variations (including a couple of new puppies I didn’t have already).
When I rolled up today’s snowballs, the snowboy taught me how to make a frozen table. (Yesterday’s snowboy taught me how to make a frozen-treat set.)
At Able Sisters, I noticed that Mabel was wearing a Santa hat…but Sable wasn’t!
Overall, Toy Day on New Horizons is like a simplified version of the New Leaf event. With no hints to keep track of, it is certainly easier. But there’s really not much to it, so it left me feeling a bit disappointed. Still, it is a quick event to complete, so that’s helpful if you’re busy with real-life last-minute preparations on Christmas Eve.
I will be posting a video of my Toy Day, but it probably won’t be up for a couple days or so. I will have another blog entry tomorrow, though.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
