Pirate Outfit

Gullivarrr sent me my latest reward in the mail today, and I was happy to see he sent me a pirate outfit! Finally, no need to pass off my “GOLD” shirt as part of the pirate costume. 😛

K.K. Slider was in town for his usual Saturday night performance. I asked him for a random song, and he played K.K. Ballad for me and Bones.

K.K.: right on. I'm tuned up and ready to roll. Who's in the mood for a little K.K. Ballad?

But Bones seemed to be more interested in eating snow than listening to music. You just gotta love Bones.

Bones: Snow just makes stuff taste good. Like chow mein! It's even gooder stirred up with snow!

I rolled up today’s snowballs, but I botched the job. I failed for the 2nd time since snowboy-building season began.

Snowboy: Almost! So, so close.
But no cigar.

Four seasonal items for New Year’s Eve are now available from Nook Shopping. That includes some sparkling cider, a twelve-grape dish, a Berliner, and some New Year’s noodles.

As I looked through my list of DIY recipes, I saw that I’ve only unlocked two of the festive ornament recipes (and one of those was from Isabelle), even though Christmas was yesterday. I was wondering if that was common, so I posted a poll on Twitter. Take a look:

Apparently, very few players have unlocked most of all of them by the time Christmas came. So how were we supposed to decorate our islands for Christmas? It’s quite disappointing the way that Nintendo has handled this, especially compared to Halloween. Why couldn’t there at least be a way to learn the remainder of them on Toy Day? What good is a Christmas tree going to be in January? And I have a feeling many of us won’t even learn all of the ornament recipes this winter at all!

I hope you’re all enjoying your holiday weekend. I’ll see you all next time.

Merry Christmas!

As I started up the game today, Isabelle cheerily informed me that they’ll be taking down the festive tree in front of town hall tomorrow. I wonder what the rush is? But she suggested taking a picture of it while I still can, so I did. Forest’s two jocks were also there, hanging out by the tree.

Jeff, Louie, and Tybalt hang out at the festive tree one last time.

In my house, I checked out the Toy Day stockings, and found something inside…

Hold on... There's something inside!

It was Jingle’s photo! While that is the same reward he sent in New Leaf, I was still a bit surprised because I guess I didn’t realize that special characters even had photos in New Horizons.

All of my villagers mentioned how great Toy Day was. They were thrilled to get a present from Santa and a present from me.

Apple: Do you even KNOW how great my Toy Day was, thanks to you? It was tres awesome, so be jolly!

Bones had a slightly different take, though. He said the best part of Toy Day was the sound of the wrapping paper…because it sounded like eating chips! Okay, I guess Bones is a bit of an odd dog.

Bones: And the best part? The sound the wrapping paper made. It sounded just like eating potato chips!

Gullivarrr was in town, washed up on the shore. It took me three diving attempts to find his communicator, and he will be sending me a reward in the mail tomorrow.

I rolled up another snowboy, and he taught me how to make a snowperson head. The thought of displaying a decapitated snowman head sounded a bit morbid, but it’s not quite what I imagined. It’s just a snowman hat. 😛

Later on tonight, Logan opened up his town of Moonscar for a Christmas party. Alex from A-Nation, Nami, Nicky, Jesse, and Jj were also there. Chibi (Ivy) also joined in a bit later.

Logan has really decorated his island nicely for the holidays, with lots of items I haven’t even unlocked yet.

He showed us around the many festive attractions, including his Toy Day vs. Halloween obstacle course.

We eventually got disconnected, but I had a good time. Thanks to Logan and everyone at the party. It was fun! 🙂

Back in my town, I finally took my Halloween furniture out of my main room and put it into storage. I put up an ice wall and floor, but the room is still mostly empty for now. All my ice furniture is outdoors still.

Sorry for the delay, but my Toy Day video may not be up until Sunday. But I’ll also have New Horizons Moments #5 coming up next week.

I hope you all are having a happy holiday season. Merry Christmas!

Toy Day

Today is Toy Day (Christmas Eve), and Jingle the black-nosed reindeer was hanging out in town. I met up with him at the plaza, and he informed me that he forgot to bring the wrapping paper!

Jingle: Unfortunately, I've got a small problem that's not very merry at all... I forgot the wrapping paper!

He gave me a DIY recipe for the wrapping paper, and surprisingly, it’s made out of ornaments. 😛 So I shook a tree to collect the ornaments and then crafted the required three sheets of paper. When I took them to Jingle, he rewarded me with a set of Toy Day stockings…which he hinted that I should hang up in my house.

Next, he had another task for me: He asked me to deliver gifts to all of the villagers in town. He gave me a magic bag full of presents. I went home to change into my Santa outfit, although it’s apparently not necessary since Jingle didn’t mention it at all.

Jingle: All you have to do is visit each resident, magic bag in hand, and deliver Toy Day gifts!

The potential problem was that none of my villagers had given me any hints on what they wanted for Toy Day! But as I started making deliveries, I found out that it doesn’t matter. Each villager automatically gets the gift meant for them, so there’s no way to screw it up (unlike in New Leaf).

Tia: Huh? Is this really a Toy Day gift just for me?

Another difference is that in New Horizons, the villagers know you’re not Santa. They can tell you’re just dressed up in a Santa suit.

Louie: Be careful working out in all that Santa gear. It looks super warm, so stay hydrated, oh banana!

I made all ten deliveries and then returned to Jingle. He gave me a DIY recipe for a gift pile, and he also gave me a Toy Day sleigh. So there’s not really a Toy Day (or Jingle) furniture set in New Horizons.

Jingle: And then...something extra special... Your very own Toy Day sleigh!

Even though I was done working for Jingle, I wasn’t done giving gifts. Villagers wanted to do separate gift exchanges with me as well (since the previous gifts were from Santa, not me).

Bones: I wanna do a Toy Day gift exchange with you, so I want you to come back when you're done, OK?

So I took more gifts to each of my ten villagers.

Rizzo: Oho! Guess you know me pretty well if you decided to get me a toilet-cleaning set.

In return, they had gifts for me as well. But they were all among the Toy Day gifts that Nook’s Cranny has been selling all month (the dinosaur toy, RC helicopter, dollhouse, etc.). The good news is that I got several different color variations (including a couple of new puppies I didn’t have already).

When I rolled up today’s snowballs, the snowboy taught me how to make a frozen table. (Yesterday’s snowboy taught me how to make a frozen-treat set.)

At Able Sisters, I noticed that Mabel was wearing a Santa hat…but Sable wasn’t!

Mabel: Hey there! Welcome to Able Sisters, where we sell fashions made lovingly by claw.

Overall, Toy Day on New Horizons is like a simplified version of the New Leaf event. With no hints to keep track of, it is certainly easier. But there’s really not much to it, so it left me feeling a bit disappointed. Still, it is a quick event to complete, so that’s helpful if you’re busy with real-life last-minute preparations on Christmas Eve.

I will be posting a video of my Toy Day, but it probably won’t be up for a couple days or so. I will have another blog entry tomorrow, though.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
