Anniversary Party

Today was Hornsby’s birthday, and I made sure to attend his birthday party. I gave him a customized drinking fountain that I made myself. A regular-sized cup isn’t big enough for a rhino; he needed something he could shove his face into and chug. Happy birthday, big guy!

Hornsby: Whoa! I-- You-- What?! A drinking fountain?!

Midge was also in attendance at the party.

I cleaned up my town and made the final preparations for my obstacle course, and then I invited four people over to race. Danny (using the name Hector in-game), Adrian, Meli, and Davy came over. I showed them the course, and then we held a few races. Danny was the ultimate winner. Congrats! Here is my video of the races.

I also updated my dream, so that you can all check out the obstacle course for yourself. Forest’s dream address is 6717-1633-3682. Or if you’ve dreamed of Forest before, you don’t even need to enter the code again…just choose it from the list of previous dreams.

Later on, I attended K.K. Slider’s show. He performed K.K. Country for me.

As you likely know, today was also the 1st anniversary of New Horizons. If you’d like a flashback to Day 1, check out my blog entry or video from that day. Happy anniversary to you all!

After burying about 10 pitfall seeds around town, I opened my gate at 9:00 for my anniversary party. Bran, Timo, Logan, Sacky, and Xavier came over. Then Sacky left and T Zelda joined in. We held several obstacle course races, and they even let me race a couple times. 😉

But once, I went into a pipe and it spit me back out! I didn’t think that would happen during a race, but it did. I’m considering adding a 2nd pipe in the “jail” to reduce the odds of that.

At the end, Logan defeated Timo in the finals. Congrats, Logan!

Logan Mario wins the obstacle course race.

T Zelda left, but the rest of us held a sumo tournament. Since we had an odd number of people (five), I didn’t participate. But in the finals, Xavier defeated Logan for the win. Congrats, Xavier!

Xavier wins the sumo tourney.

We wrapped up sumo with a 5-player battle, and Logan won that one. Congrats!

The third event of the night was a bug, fish, and sea creature-catching competition. I set the timer for ten minutes, and the goal was to catch the most (obviously). But about halfway through, William joined in the party. Fortunately, the timer kept going. Thirty seconds later, Alex from Pawnee also tried to join in. But this time, we all disconnected.

I reopened, and Logan, Timo, Sacky, and Alex came over. We visited Hornsby briefly, and then we prepared to restart the fish/bug competition. But then Sacky left, Alex left, and Xavier rejoined. We started the timer and it was going well. But with 46 seconds left, Ryan from Petal Burg came over. By the time the arrival sequence was done, the timer ran out. Timo won the competition with 22 catches (all sea creatures). Congrats, Timo!

Jeff: 10 fish, 4 sea creatures. Xavier: 5 fish, 9 sea creatures. Logan: 6 fish, 14 sea creatures. Timo: 22 sea creatures.

As Timo drew on the bulletin board, I showed Ryan the obstacle course, and we did a quick race (I won). I just had to check out Timo’s art, and it was worth the wait. Timo’s “squish” seems to reference a fall into (at least) one of my hidden pitfalls tonight. 😂

Timo's art shows Timo, some pitfall seeds, and the word squish.

We sat down for a K.K. song; Logan requested “Welcome Horizons” in honor of the anniversary. I thought we were all sitting for the show, but Timo got up and started using emotions and being funny during the show. 😛 However, I noticed that the lights from my Festivale stages no longer show up during K.K.’s shows! I don’t know why Nintendo took that out; it wasn’t hurting anybody!

The final event of the night was museum tag. I was the first seeker, and I was having no luck. Twice, it felt like I found someone, but the camera angles wouldn’t allow me to see for sure. Of course, there’s always a chance it was some phantom lag…but it turned out it was actually Logan in the art room and Timo in the fish room. Timo doesn’t normally talk anyway, but Logan was clearly trying to cheat by acting like I didn’t find him. 😛

Jeff: Are u somebody?

In the next round, Timo found me very quickly. 😛 But then it was revolving door time. Alex returned, Cat came over, Cat left, Logan left, and Ryan left. Those of us that remained played a couple more rounds of museum tag. But by about 12:30, I ended the party. Thank you to everyone who came! It was fun! 🙂

I’ll be back with another blog entry tomorrow. Hope to see you then!

Update: Here is a video showing highlights of the party. Enjoy!

Hornsby’s Jam

It was raining in town yesterday, and Midge wondered if we’d see a rainbow!

Midge: Do you think we'll see a rainbow after all this rain, for lunch?

That’s something I haven’t even thought about much. I don’t think I’ve seen a rainbow in New Horizons yet, and they’re generally pretty rare throughout the series. It kept raining into the night though, so my rainbow-less streak continues. 😛

Hornsby was in an unusually bad mood; he was really upset. I’ve never seen him in such a dark place before.

Hornsby: Folks keep asking if things are OK. I'll tell ya what's OK! Nothing! Everything in life is real un-OK!

I hate seeing my buddy so sad. 🙁 Even if he was only feeling so bad because he couldn’t find his jar of jam.

Hornsby: These are dark days...real...real dark. Tell your jam you love it while you still got the chance.

I’m wondering if the recent update added new dialogue. Because lately, I’ve been seeing a number of things I don’t recall seeing before.

Redd was in town, and he had a real wistful painting, a fake scary painting, a sinking painting that looked real, and a wild painting left half that I wasn’t sure about. Since I already had the two real ones in the museum, I took a chance on the wild painting.

Xavier came over last night for a test run on the obstacle course. We discovered that during online play, it is possible to come out of the same warp pipe that you went into (at least if multiple people are using pipes at the same time).

I have three pipes, let’s call them A, B, and C. Xavier went into pipe A and came out pipe C. I went into pipe B, and came out of pipe B. I’m guessing the game determined we would both come out of pipe C, but since C was occupied, it sent me back to B. However, I don’t think it’ll be a problem during races, because everyone will be going into pipe C and coming out A or B. So two pipes won’t be in use at the same time.

Today, I received my wild painting left half from Redd in the mail. Unfortunately, Blathers informed me that it was a fake.

I listened in on a conversation between Louie and Tia. Apparently, Louie called her “Miss Tia,” and Tia said it made her feel like a teacher. 😛

Tia: I feel like a teacher, because he just called me Miss Tia!

Tia responded that maybe she should call Louie, “Mr. Louie.” But Louie said he’d rather be called “Boss,” so he could feel like he’s in charge of something. 😛 It was a cute conversation.

Flick was in town, so I grabbed some insects out of storage and sold him over 150,000 bells worth of bugs.

It was raining again today, so I postponed my initial obstacle course race. I’ll try again tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully Mother Nature will provide some (Super Mario) Sunshine for the race. 🙂 If all goes well, I might even post my video of the race tomorrow evening.

But my anniversary party will be held tomorrow night regardless of weather. Anyone on my friend roster can come at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

Anniversary Update

Yesterday, I received my latest reward from Gulliver in the mail. He sent me this turban.

Trying on the turban from Gulliver.

Last night, Wisp and Celeste were both in town (at the same time). Wisp ultimately gave me some cute red-tile flooring, and Celeste gave me a DIY recipe for a star clock. That star clock recipe is exactly what I had just been hoping for! 🙂

SWEET! I learned a DIY recipe for a star clock!
Look at Celeste’s footprints. ❤️

Today is Shamrock Day, which of course, is better known as St. Patrick’s Day in real life. Unfortunately, New Horizons does not have a Shamrock Day event (unlike New Leaf). But I did shoot down a balloon present that contained a recipe for a shamrock wand.

C.J. was in town with a new seasports challenge for me. He wanted to see some big-time fish, so I caught a black bass, a squid, and a dace to complete the challenge. When I checked my storage, I only had five fish saved up for him. But he paid me 38,700 bells for them.

Apollo asked me to deliver a package to Louie, and Louie asked me to guess if it was clothing or furniture. I guessed clothing, and I was right…so Louie gave it to me. It was a striped tank.

At about 9:00 tonight, the one-year anniversary update went live. I downloaded the update, and I received a letter from Nintendo. Uh, I mean, from Nook Inc. 😉 They sent a first-anniversary cake, and I’m actually a bit surprised they’re sending it early…instead of having it arrive in the mail on March 20th. But I’m not complaining.

At Resident Services, there are two design upgrades you can purchase with Nook Miles. One lets you access the custom design portal with your NookPhone…so you can upload and download designs without having to go to Able Sisters! Very helpful for night owls like me, playing mostly when Able Sisters is closed for the night.

The other upgrade adds 50 regular design slots and 50 pro design slots. Awesome! It also allows you to make designs for face-cutout standees, umbrellas, handheld flags, and fans. I’m going to start using the extra design slots right away to add more patterns to my Mario obstacle course!

Lots of blank design slots waiting to be used.

Speaking of which, here are my plans for that. I’m going to try to finish up my obstacle course by tomorrow night. On Friday, I hope to host my first races either in the late afternoon or early evening.* I’ll probably ask for four contestants on Twitter…but try to have one of the Mario outfits ready to wear if you plan on joining in. It can be Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Wario. I have a couple outfits in case someone doesn’t have one, but I don’t have enough for everyone.

*Update: Due to rain on my island Friday, I decided to postpone my obstacle course race at least until Saturday afternoon, pending the weather in Forest (follow on Twitter for further details). However, my anniversary party will go on as scheduled, rain or shine, at 9 p.m. Eastern on Saturday!

See you all soon!
