No Mention of Leap Day

Late on Saturday night, I built one last snowman just a couple of hours before the snow melted for the season. But he wasn’t rolling up just right, and I accidentally built him wrong. Oops. 😛

My lopsided snowman built at the end of winter.

A couple hours later, I took another photo as the surrounding snow had melted.

Snowboy: Snow ruled the land not so long ago. I'm talking about yesterday...

On Sunday, I bought 7,780 turnips from Daisy Mae, at a price of 107 bells apiece.

Pascal popped up when I caught a scallop, and he started talking about vocational training for sharks. Because of course he would. 😛

Pascal: We've got card sharks, pool sharks, loan sharks... Sharks need better vocational training, maaan.

Believe it or not, today is the first Leap Day since New Horizons was released! Even though the game came out in 2020 (which was also a leap year), release day was just three weeks after Leap Day. So I was looking forward to seeing what New Horizons did for the occasion.

But today, I saw nothing. No announcement from Isabelle, no special dialogue from villagers, and not even a post on the bulletin board. After City Folk and New Leaf marked the occasion, I thought we’d at least get something.

There is one small exception though, as I saw on Reddit, if Leap Day is your birthday. The villagers at your birthday party will acknowledge it only happens once every four years. But for the vast majority of us, there’s no mention of the occasion. That’s a bit of a Leap Day letdown.

However, something special did happen in my town this morning. The Nooklings were paying 552 bells for turnips! I gathered up my turnips and made several trips to sell them all. The grand total was 4,379,760 bells! This was easily my biggest turnip payday ever!

Standing among my money bags!

I made huge progress towards my Nook Miles turnip achievement, as you can probably imagine. I went from 5.5 million bells of profit earned, to nearly 9.1 million. Less than a million bells to go! I totally got this! 😁

    9,087,060 / 10,000,000

After putting my money in the bank, my account balance topped 84 million bells.

I recently posted a video discussing the features introduced in New Horizons, and which I think should stay in future games, and which should go. Whether you agree or disagree, let me know your thoughts in a comment, either here or on the video itself. 🙂

Happy Leap Day, everyone! See you next time. 🙂

    80 Million Bells

Last Wednesday was Valentine’s Day, and all of my villagers (and Isabelle) sent me valentines in the mail. So I ended up with a lot of chocolate hearts and heart-shaped bouquets. I also got another treat when I went to the Roost. Brewster serves hot chocolate instead of coffee on Valentine’s Day each year. Mmm.

Me, at the Roost: This hot chocolate is warming my heart...

On Friday, Sly the alligator was camping at the campground. Something about his eyes intrigue me. Or scare me. I’m not sure which.

Sly, at the campsite: Anyway, thanks for hosting me. This place is awesome!

After putting some money into my savings account yesterday, my balance reached 80 million bells.

    Savings Balance: 80,000,000 bells.

Today, Bob asked me for a new catchphrase, and I told him to say “on the rug.” I didn’t get him to use it in a funny way yet, but as I was trying, he said this…

Bob: Weird how you keep being where I am...

I guess he was getting tired of me talking to him too much. 😛 But it reminded me of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and that would probably be Link’s reaction to seeing Beedle in every stable he visits. 😛

Just a few other quick notes about the past week in Forest:

    • Gulliver sent me another geisha wig last Thursday.
    • I sold 22 bugs to Flick for 111,750 bells on Friday.
    • K.K. Slider performed K.K. Lament for me and Ankha on Saturday.
    • Midge was sick yesterday, so I gave her some medicine. In return, she gave me an explorer shirt.
    • C.J. was in town today, and I sold him 18 bugs for 176k.

See you next time! Never Stop Crossing!

    Party, Festivale

On Saturday, I found a scallop while diving. Pascal popped up and started talking about…gnats? 😛

Pascal: We did gnats dirty. Didn't even let 'em suggest a better name. We were like, Gnat. Then they were gnats.

It was the Chinese New Year, so all of my villagers were talking about that. Ketchup even said she could hear the lunar beat…whatever that means. 😆

Ketchup: It's the Lunar New Year, and I totes hear that lunar beat!

A bit after 10:00 p.m., I headed over to Logan’s town Moonscar for his Valentine’s Day/Festivale party. I was the first to arrive, but we were soon joined by Nami, Sam, Matthew, and Jesse. Matthew realized that the Miranda in Logan’s town was his former villager. Meanwhile, I gave Sam a slice of strawberry.

Jeff slices Sam's head with a strawberry umbrella.

After we cycled through our wand outfits about 200 times, we headed over to Logan’s house. His main room was decorated for winter and Valentine’s Day, and it looked really good.

    Logan's winter/Valentine room.

After everyone talked about how weird I am, we headed into Logan’s leaky bathroom. Logan used the “dripdrop” polishing effect on his sink and toilet, so it looked like he was in desperate need of a plumber. 😛

Xavier came over, and we moved from Logan’s toilet bowl to his Super Bowl… watching room.

The group hanging out in Logan's football themed room.

Logan kidnapped us all and locked us up in his gyroid/backyard room. So Nami and I tried to lock Logan up with his own crabs. He broke free rather easily, though. 😛

    Trapping Logan with crabs.

Logan wanted to play some museum tag next, so we headed there. Nami was the last to arrive, and Logan asked where she was. She said she was busy, which I thought meant she had planted pitfalls outside for us to fall into later. 😆 So when Logan went out to count, I followed him…hoping to see him fall into a hole. Sadly, there were none, so I returned inside to hide. 😛

I hid in the aquarium section during the first round, and I didn’t get caught. For the 2nd game, Nami was seeking, and I hid in the bug room. For some reason, I didn’t think she caught me, but she did. I knew she said “gotcha” to someone, but I didn’t realize it was me until I watched back my footage. Sorry, Nami!

In the third and final round, Sam was seeking, and he found most (or all?) of us…including me (barely). 😛 We then got some coffee, and then went back outside for a group photo.

A group photo of us in Logan's town.

And before Logan ended the session, we saw a few performances by K.K. Slider. I had a good time at the party, so thanks to Logan and everyone who came. 🙂

Yesterday was Festivale, and I fully participated this year. Since it snowed the day before, I first went around town cleaning up new flower buds…stopping to catch any feathers I saw along the way. That let me build up a nice stockpile by the time I spoke with Pavé.

Pave: IT IS TIME... PAVE DANCES NOW!

Giving feathers to Pavé is a slow process. He has a lot of dialogue (and dancing) each time. But seeing Louie parade around provided some entertainment in the meantime. 😆

Louie marching around as I give feathers to Pave.

I went through two full cycles, meaning a total of 20 trades. That meant two more Festivale floats for me.

    My two new Festivale floats.

And after that, I even caught some more feathers to use for customizations. In all, I went through four nets on the day!

After not seeing Ankha during that whole time, I finally found her dancing alone in Sudden Valley. 😆

Ankha: Oh, pardon my exuberance. I just think this is a fabulous holiday. An excuse to dance and caper!

Today, Saharah was in town. I purchased some mysterious wallpaper and flooring from her; they turned out to be a rock-climbing wall and circuit-board flooring. I kept the latter, and put it into storage.

I hope you all had a good Festivale! I’ll see you next time. 🙂
