Final Bug-Off of 2024

Sunday was Ankha’s birthday, so I crafted a Scorpio lamp for her. She was really excited to receive it; she seemed to know it was a valuable gift.

Ankha, at her birthday party: Are you serious? You're GIVING me a Scorpio lamp?

I know she’s not a Scorpio, but it was gold…and it was something I hadn’t crafted before, so I wanted to check it off my list. 😆 Anyway, Static was also at the party.

Static: The whole gang's here to celebrate Ankha on her big day!
You and me? That’s the whole gang?

Over by Resident Services, Bob, Ketchup, and Merengue were enjoying a barbecue! It looked good!

Merengue: What a great spot to set up a barbecue...

On Wednesday, Samson the mouse was camping at the campsite. He was talking like he wanted to wrestle! 😆

Samson, at the campsite: I just got here today, and I gotta say this island's really nice! Feels perfect for wrestling, pipsqueak.
If Rizzo was still here, you could wrestle him all you wanted. But he got exterminated three years ago.

Today, Flick hosted the final Bug-Off of the year. In the span of three minutes, I caught 11 bugs and scored 13 points. Not bad, I guess. But I decided to give it another try, and my second attempt went even better. Here is a video if you’d like to see the full round:

I scored a personal-best 19 points! My previous best was just 16, from back in August 2021. But admittedly, I haven’t played a lot of Bug-Off rounds, especially in the past couple years.

Flick: Well done. You earned 19 points!

After selling my bugs, I redeemed my points for some prizes. I got a ladybug rug, a spider doorplate, a toy cockroach, and a bug aloha shirt. I put the doorplate on my house door (perfect for Halloween season), and I decided to wear the shirt. As for the other two items, I just sold them. I didn’t really have a need for a cockroach right now. (And I already have one of the rugs in storage.)

Later, I saw Static and Ketchup chasing the same butterfly!

Static and Ketchup go after the same butterfly.

Ketchup swung her net, and missed, of course. So then I was afraid Static was going to hit Ketchup! He did…sort of. But his net kinda went through Ketchup instead of hitting her, so it wasn’t as violent (or funny) as I hoped. 😛 But I’ll be sure to include that clip in a future video.

Due to the Bug-Off, K.K. Slider was not in town tonight. But here are a few other quick notes about this week:

  • Wisp gave me a shoji screen on Sunday.
  • On Tuesday, I played a treasure hunt game with Static. I dug up a wide-brim straw hat.
  • Gulliver sent me an elder mask on Wednesday.
  • On Thursday, I sold 23 bugs to Flick for 160k bells.

I’ll see you next time!

Don’t Eat Ketchup!

On Monday, I visited Louie’s house and found Ankha was also visiting him. Ankha said it was a pleasant surprise to see me there, in her tomb.

Ankha: Well, isn't this a coincidence! What a pleasant surprise to see you here, in my tomb.

It’s not your tomb, Ankha! It’s Louie’s tomb! Uh, I mean, Louie’s house.

Over at the plaza, June told me that she loves making fresh-squeezed apple juice…in her hair! She wanted me to be her taste-tester, but hair juice isn’t my style.

June: I love making fresh-squeezed apple juice too, in my hair.

Last week, I mentioned that I actually learned a new D.I.Y. recipe for the first time in a long time. But this week (on Tuesday), I learned another one! It was for a cosmos crown.

SWEET! I learned a DIY recipe for a cosmos crown!

On Thursday, Cleo the horse was camping at the campsite. I really liked the color of her dress, which is apparently a floral lace dress.

Cleo, at the campsite: Ah, do you live here? I'm Cleo. A pleasure.

But I was never a fan of her on GameCube; her snootiness always rubbed me the wrong way. Having her clip-clopping around town would almost be a night mare. 😉 (Okay, she’s not really that bad, but I still didn’t invite her in.)

But speaking of nightmares, Merengue was telling Ketchup that she had a dream about a spaghetti faucet…

Merengue: What's strange is, just a night ago, I dreamed I had a spaghetti faucet.

Ketchup told her she should dream up some sauce faucets so she had something to put on the spaghetti, and Merengue was trying to think of a good sauce. She even mentioned a tomato sauce, and I’m 90% sure she was thinking about eating Ketchup in that moment. 😆

Merengue: There are so many possibilities: tomato, cream-based, pesto, or just a simple garlic and oil...

Tonight, I attended K.K. Slider’s Saturday night show at the plaza. I let him choose the song (as I usually do), and he performed K.K. Mariachi for me and Ankha.

K.K. Slider performs for me and Ankha.

I posted a new video today, New Horizons Moments #28. It features highlights from late June up through this week. I hope you’ll check it out!

I’ll see you all next time!

Louie the Liar

At this point, it’s pretty rare for me to learn new D.I.Y. recipes. But I actually found a new one last Sunday! It was for some golden plate armor, and I found it in a message bottle on the beach.

SWEET! I learned a DIY recipe for some golden plate armor!

On Monday, Graham the hamster was camping in Forest (for the 2nd time). He’s kinda cute, but I certainly wasn’t about to kick anyone out for him.

Graham, at the campsite: Hey, you're a local, right? The name's Graham.

It was Rio’s birthday, so I made sure to attend her party. I made her some peach jam as a birthday gift, and she seemed to enjoy it.

Rio, at her birthday party: Wow! You got me some peach jam?! FAB!

June was also at the party, and she was happy to see me.

June: I wasn't sure you'd come, touchdown, but I'm glad you did, in my hair!

This was Rio’s third birthday party in Forest. Last year, Ankha was at her party…and it was Beardo the year before that. 😱

On Wednesday, Louie made a dubious claim. He said that he’s never had coffee before!

Louie: I've never had coffee before...but you're getting me pumped to try it, oh banana!

However, that’s not just a dubious claim; it’s a blatant lie. I’ve seen him having coffee at the Roost before! Busted!

Yesterday, I helped Gullivarrr find his phone in the sea. Today, he sent me a pirate wall in the mail.

Tonight, I attended K.K. Slider’s concert at the plaza. Sadly, I was the only one to show up. But K.K. performed K.K. Metal for me. It was a good show!

K.K.: Right on. I'm tuned up and ready to roll. Who's in the mood for a little K.K. Metal?
