Halloween

Happy Halloween, everyone! Once the festivities started this evening, Louie was the first one to approach me. He was wearing devil horns, and he came running towards me like in the old games. However, villagers do not automatically start a conversation in this game! So there’s not really a sense of danger, since you can just choose to not speak to anyone if you wish.

Louie: Trick or treat!

But since I had 29 pieces of candy saved up, I did talk to him. I gave him candy, and in return, he gave me a spooky garland. But he also did something else…he taught me the scare reaction!

Louie: Get ready... YOUR MUSCLES ARE GETTING SMALLER!

Tybalt was the next villager I ran into. In return for candy, he gave me a lollipop.

Near the plaza, I found Jack, the czar of Halloween himself! I gave him a piece of candy, and he gave me Jack’s robe. He then asked me to bring him lollipops. But first, he taught me the haunt reaction.

Jack: YOU'RE REGRET IT, PUMPKIN!

That also earned me 3,000 Nook Miles for learning 42 reactions. When I gave Jack the lollipop, he rewarded me with a spooky carriage! This thing is huge (3×3 spaces)! I had a hard time finding a place it would fit…even outdoors!

I continued giving candy to villagers, and lollipops to Jack. My rewards were as follows. Items marked with an asterisk (*) are from Jack.

  • spooky table setting
  • spooky rug
  • spooky flooring
  • spooky carriage DIY recipe*
  • spooky wall
  • spooky garland DIY recipe

  • spooky wand recipe*
  • Jack’s face*

After that, I started getting duplicates.

FYI, the spooky carriage recipe requires a LOT of materials: 30 orange pumpkins, 20 pieces of hardwood, 20 pieces of regular wood, 20 pieces of softwood, and 10 iron nuggets.

Note: Indoor villagers will give you candy.

Keaton: That costume is to DIE for. You've definitely earned the candy I'm about to give you, on a cliff.

And Midge had the cutest Halloween costume, wearing an animal suit.

Midge: Trick or treat!

Okay, so naturally, I wondered what the tricks were that everyone kept threatening me with. So I dropped my candy and any items worth keeping on the ground, and I spoke with Hornsby. He said “Wha? You don’t have any candy!” and he did not play any pranks on me!

So there is nothing to fear if you don’t have any candy. They won’t do anything to you unless you have candy, and purposely refuse to give them any. So that begs the question, what if you do purposely refuse them candy? I went back to grab my candy, when I saw ants all over my candy!

Ant lined up to take my candy.

I got my net out, caught one, and donated it to the museum. I then went back and refused to give Rizzo some candy. He messed me up and turned me into a blue mummy!

Jeff the ref...or the blue mummy?

I tried it again with Hornsby, and he turned me green! But I used a mirror to change myself back and continued to give away candy. I kept getting more duplicates, although I quickly found out that you can also get pumpkins from villagers.

Tia: In return, I'd like to give you... 10 orange pumpkins!

If you wear Jack’s robe and Jack’s face, villagers will think you’re Jack and give you a piece of candy (even outdoor villagers). They then realize that you’re just wearing a Jack costume, but they still let you keep the piece of candy.

Midge: Good job, scaring me like that! You should keep that candy. You earned it, fly with me!

Overall, Halloween in New Horizons is considerably easier than in previous games. I got everything in under half an hour, and there’s no real risk of messing things up. But it’s still fun, and it’s significantly better than the Bunny Day event.

Later on, I went over to Logan’s island for his Halloween party. Nami, Alex from Pawnee, Jj, and Jesse were also there… Or should I say Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, and Jack?

Logan gave us a tour of his town, including a number of new areas for Halloween. I particularly enjoyed his skeleton band.

Later on, Megan joined in and we took a group photo at town hall.

We had a fun time at Logan’s Halloween party. Thanks, Logan! I’ll be sure to include some clips from the party in a future Wi-Fi Moments video.

I hope you all had a Happy Halloween! πŸŽƒ

Update: Here is the video. Enjoy!

  1. The “tricks” in the game are a definite improvement over the original game. Remember having to wear a custom design (even a blank one) and ensure your pockets were empty except for candy (and even that was at risk of being turned into something else)?

    1. It’s certainly a lot easier in New Horizons! I didn’t mind my clothes getting changed to rags on GameCube, although I certainly didn’t want my spooky furniture getting ruined! I remember also carrying around some seashells to lower the risk of something good being ruined.

  2. I’m gonna do a review on animal crossing new leaf.
    The good:
The mayor pwp let’s you have any type of town you want. Want a pink only town? A pwp is all you need.
More tasks from villagers and I love the crankies and snooties in this game. They make me laugh so hardπŸ˜‚.
    The okay:
    Wisp returns
Tom book’s loans are expensive and I go poor paying of just one loan 😣

    The bad:
    Monty
You can only have only 1 ordinance at a time. I wish I could have late hours and the one that makes it so flowers can’t die.

    Overall rating: 9.35/10
New leaf is a great game and I vastly thing it’s even better than new horizons. It’s too bad Nintendo abandoned New leaf, because we could have had an update with 2 ordanices.
