Big Top’s Bad Day

Yesterday, I received Benedict’s goodbye letter in the mail. He used some awesome hamburger stationery. The greeting and closing fit perfectly on the burger buns.

Good-bye, Jeff, We had some good times. Sleeping... Eating... Hm... Eating some more. But now I'm moving. See you around! See ya! -Benedict

Today, I started up the game and shot down my first balloon present in a couple of years! That’s because I’ve mostly been playing at night until lately (and they only appear during the day in Wild World). The present was a CD player.

But I wasn’t done using my slingshot for the day… At my first x:x7, a UFO flew by overhead! Since I was ready for it, I shot it down with relative ease. I actually had more trouble with the slow-moving balloon present. 😂😂😂

This was my third UFO shot down in Wild World overall (and my 2nd in June). I rushed over to Gulliver and woke him up. Eventually.

Gulliver: Flag on the moon... Numm numm numm... How did it get there...?

He asked me to gather up the missing parts of his spaceship, so of course I did. When I took them all back to him, he rewarded me with a Metroid! That’s the item that took me forever (19 tries) in City Folk! But I added it to my space room, along with a lunar rover I bought at Nookington’s yesterday.

Later on, I listened in on a conversation between Big Top and Rolf. Big Top tried to get Rolf to take a quiz, but Rolf wanted no part of it. He was actually mad about it! He asked if I was going to allow Big Top to quiz him, and I said I saw no problem with it. So Rolf called us both idiots!

Rolf: Idiots! Both of you!

He then said Big Top’s hemming and hawing are going to ruin this town! 😮

Rolf: Your hemming and hawing is going to ruin this town, grrrolf!

He made Big Top cry! For someone that’s one of my top-five villagers in the whole series, I really, really dislike him right now. I may not even keep him around after he gives me his photo.

Big Top’s day got even worse a few minutes later. As I was fishing a carp out of the river, Big Top fell into a pitfall!

Big Top struggles to get out of a pitfall.

Margie is still sick, so I gave her some more medicine.

Even though this is my 3rd blog entry this week (and 4th in five days), I may not be done just yet. I’m still playing daily to check turnip prices, and I’m also trying to find Wendell so that I can give him my red turnip and get this trading sequence underway. So I’ll probably be back soon with more! See you then!

Bug Trophy, Antonio’s Pic

Today, I received a letter in the mail confirming that I won the Bug-Off with my 247-mm birdwing butterfly yesterday! Yay!

The outcome is clear! Jeff is the MVP of insects! That 247-mm birdwing? It's just insane! Well played! June 20th Bug-Off

My prize was a bug trophy, and I decided to put it in my mush room.

My bug trophy in my room of mush furniture.

Back outside, I dug up my red turnip. From what I understand, they don’t need to be full-grown for the golden axe trading sequence. So it’s better to just get it out of the ground now so I don’t risk forgetting a day and letting it shrivel up and die.

Check out what I dug up! A red turnip!

Big Top told me of a crazy rumor that used to be floating around. According to the rumor, Tom Nook was allegedly just a guy in a raccoon suit!

Big Top: The rumor used to be that Tom Nook was just some guy in a raccoon suit.

He said that the zipper must’ve been well hidden. 😛 But Big Top clearly didn’t think there was any truth to the rumor.

Out of nowhere, Antonio pinged me and gave me his photo!

Antonio: Here! It's my photo! Awesome, huh, wee baby?

I took it to the upstairs room of my house and displayed with my other villager pics. Antonio’s favorite quote is “Always go for the burn.” Here’s a look at all my current pics.

Antonio's pic joins 17 other villager pics.

I can now feel free to let Antonio move out the next time he asks. Even though I liked him in City Folk, I didn’t care for him as much in Wild World.

A few other quick notes about today:

  • Benedict has not moved out yet; he’s still packed up in boxes.
  • I gave Margie some medicine for her cold.
  • Nook’s turnip price was in the 70s, so I didn’t sell any turnips.

See you all next time!

Bug-Off, Red Turnips

I started up the game early this morning, and it was foggy in town.

Good morning! You came to play, did you?

I tracked down Joan, and I bought a pack of red turnip seeds from her for 1,000 bells. This was my first time buying red turnips in Wild World.

Joan: I've only just started raising stocks of red turnips...

I plan on using it to begin the trading process for the golden axe. But I also bought 400 white turnips from Joan, at 100 bells apiece.

Later on, I did something else I haven’t done yet in Wild World: I competed in the Bug-Off!

Tortimer: Buggy-wugs, buggy-mugs! Today's the official Forest Bug-Off!

I started off by catching a common butterfly, but it was only 57 mm long. Tortimer told me that Big Top currently held the lead with a 114-mm peacock butterfly. I caught a few more bugs, and soon Tortimer told me that Olivia now held the record with a 122-mm peacock. But I kept my eyes open for bugs as I played.

Benedict was all packed up and ready to move. After some consideration by my scrambled brain, I decided to let him go. He’s had a nice long stay in Forest (nearly two years), and I earned his picture last year. So there was really nothing else for him to accomplish here.

Benedict: I enjoyed my time here. But I have no choice. There's better food elsewhere...
Best of luck to you! Maybe I’ll see you in another life!

At Nookington’s, I bought an asteroid for my (overcrowded) space room.

Back outside, I spotted a big bug flying by: a birdwing butterfly! Fortunately, it was easy to catch.

I caught a birdwing butterfly! A green light in midair!

I took it over to Tortimer, and he measured it: 247 mm! I took over the lead in the Bug-Off, and he gave me an anatomical model as my prize.

Tortimer: Will the lovely prize of an anatomical model inspire you to victory?!
My body is ready!

I felt like I had a pretty good sized lead, so I stopped at that point (even though there was still more than an hour left in the competition). When I returned later (after 6 p.m.), Tortimer was already back inside town hall, so I guess I’ll find out in the mail tomorrow if I won or not. But I like my chances.

Since I have turnips to sell (and a red one to water), I’ll be playing more this week. I’m not sure which days I’ll be posting blog entries, but it’s safe to say this won’t be the only entry of the week. See you soon!
