A Shark, Rainy Night

Big Top had his belongings all packed up in boxes tonight. He was planning on moving out of town, but I made him reconsider.

Big Top: Wow. I wasn't expecting that response... Maybe I'll think it over once more.Static was sick with a cold, so I gave him some medicine. He said I was so nice to him that he regrets calling me names. 😛

Static: You're so good to me. I shouldn't have called you all those names.
And yet we both know you’re gonna do it again.

It was raining in town, so that limited some of the bugs that appear. But I was still finding some good ones, and one new one: a dynastid beetle. When I went to the museum to donate it, I saw that Blathers had more dialogue once again. Wow, Wild World really does so much for character development and back stories for the non-playable characters (NPCs).

Back when Blathers was at university, he was asked by his professor to help out one day. He had to hand out exams and check for cheaters. But the room got a bit hot, so he opened up a window. That was a mistake, because a fly flew into the room!

Blathers: Hoo, what a tragic error! A single fly flew into the exam room... Vile thing.

Due to his fear of bugs, he couldn’t take his eyes off the fly. He kept grinding his beak, and that eventually gave him a cramp in his face muscles. Poor guy.

Blathers: But the constant beak grinding had given me a cramp in my face muscles...Once I had spoken with all of my villagers, I went down to the beach. Going from side to side, I kept an eye out for good fish and bugs. I caught a number of good ones, and when I was done, I was able to make a whopping 65,000 bell payment on my mortgage at town hall.

I returned to the beach to catch a few more bugs and fish, and there I caught a shark! Even though I’ve caught a hammerhead before, this was my first regular shark.

I caught a shark! It was a shark attack! After donating it to the museum, I ended my game for the night. I’d have to say it was a pretty good night. A new bug, a new shark, a large mortgage payment, and I saved Big Top. Now I’m going to go play some Splatoon 2. 🙂

Blathers Rips One

Crazy Redd was in town today (on Tuesday, as I suggested to Lyle). I gained access to his tent by using the password “Redd is 35.” Inside, Redd had a lovely painting for sale. I bought it for 3,920 bells.

Redd: Now, you see? That there lovely painting is a very rare piece! When I visited Big Top, he told me not to worry because everybody already chased away “that brown thing.” But I didn’t know what brown thing he meant! Could he be referring to the cocoa-colored thing that was in his can of food last month? Eww!

Big Top: And don't worry! Everybody chased that brown thing away already, in my ears.

I caught two new bugs, a brown cicada and a robust cicada. So I headed up to the museum to donate them both. I also gave Blathers the lovely painting, and fortunately, it was the real deal!

When I ran into Baabara outside, she showed me a love letter she got from her secret admirer! It said her shins were like stalks of celery, slathered with peanut butter and raisins! That’s hilarious! 😀

Dearest peanut, Your shins are like the finest stalks of celery, slathered generously with peanut butter, and raisins. -Your Secret AdmirerI decided to do some more bug-catching, and after a while, I spotted a birdwing butterfly!

I caught a birdwing butterfly! A green light in midair!I took it to the museum, and I noticed Blathers had a new story to tell me. He told me about when he first started working a part-time job at the library. Some older books had mold in them, and it was his job to open the books and lie them on the windowsill to dry them out in the sunlight.

Blathers: These books tend to get eaten by book lice and the like, you see...He said that some of the reference books get eaten by “book lice.” So to avoid the bugs, he was holding a book by the corners…and he let one rip.

RRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIP...... I looked up, aghast, and the librarians' eyes were on me!The book, that is. Sounds like a very bad day.

Anyway, even though I’ve been making good progress on my bug collection, it seems that I still need 17 more bugs before my collection is complete. That sounds like such a lot.

At town hall, I made a 30,000 bell mortgage payment. I also found a zipper shirt in the recycle bin, so I took that over to Puddles, since she’s been asking me for new clothes. She enjoyed the shirt, and she gave me “my favorite” thing, mint glasses.

Puddles: Here! Your favorite! Some mint glasses! Enjoy, in my eye!

Pretty sure that’s not my favorite thing. Maybe she was thinking of mint chocolate chip ice cream. 😛

Catching a Scorpion

Since my pockets were full, I made my way over to Nookington’s before it closed tonight. Tom Nook gave me over 24,000 bells for the stuff I had in my pockets.

Back outside, I saw the shape of an eel in the river. So I fished out my very first eel.

Animated GIF showing the eel I caught in Animal Crossing: Wild World (ACWW) for Nintendo DS (as played on Wii U Virtual Console).I went to the museum to donate it, and I noticed Blathers had some new dialogue once again. He said he misses the days of living in a big city. Apparently, no one from the Farway Museum wanted to move away to curate the new museum opening up in Forest. So, they sent him.

Blathers: 'Twas my understanding that no one from the main Farway Museum would move...That actually sounds like the plot of the Mr. Bean movie. 😛 But Blathers said he doesn’t regret coming to Forest, he just gets homesick sometimes.

Anyway, I found Rod all packed up and ready to move out of town. I didn’t want him to leave, so I talked to him over and over until he reconsidered.

Rod: My brain's all bamboozled... Maybe I should rethink the whole thing, in my ears!Outside of town hall, the message of the week said that if you lose something big, just pretend pirates took it. 😛

*Message of the Week* If you lose something big, pretend pirates took it.While walking on the beach, I saw something I hadn’t seen in Wild World before: A scorpion! Fortunately, it wasn’t moving much, so I walked over to it and caught it! 😀 I think I really lucked out getting it on my first try!

Jeff swings his net at a scorpion in Animal Crossing: Wild World (ACWW).While coming up between Nookington’s and Able Sisters, I spotted an even bigger bug in the distance! Oh wait, that’s just Gracie.

The outline of Gracie in the distance.I’m not even going to waste my time on Gracie. 😛

I then returned to the museum to donate the scorpion. Blathers told me that scorpions can be affected by their own venom! He wondered why they even bother carrying it around. He compared it to walking around with a piano above his head. 😛

Blathers: If I walked around with a piano above my head, I'd expect to be squashed, wot!
You’ve got to tune out those thoughts, Blathers.

When I bumped into Puddles, she showed me a letter she got about the barbaric treatment of animal crackers. 😀 Sounds like Nintendo is poking some fun at PETA. 😛

Stop the Slaughter! Animal crackers live in tiny cages before they're cruelly eaten. Protest this barbaric process! -Animals for CrackersI finished up my night with some fishing and bug-catching. Since the shop was closed, I once again filled up my pockets with things to sell next time.
