Not Passing, Not Failing

I’ve been playing more frequently lately, so this blog entry will cover several days of playing.

Wednesday

Wednesday was December 11th, and there were two main things I noticed on the ground.

Snow on the ground and wilted flowers in Animal Crossing: Wild World.

The first one is obvious: Snow now covers the grass. But the second thing I noticed is that I had wilted flowers…even though it snowed the day before! So I went back to compare my Tuesday footage with my Wednesday footage, and this is what I found.

First of all, any flowers that were wilted on Tuesday were indeed revived by the snow on Wednesday. That’s what I expected. However, some of the flowers that were not wilted on Tuesday during the snow were wilted on Wednesday! Not a lot, but a few.

So the precipitation seems to help wilted flowers, but doesn’t prevent non-wilted flowers from wilting the next day. This is not how it works in City Folk and New Leaf. In those later games, there won’t be any wilties on the day after rain or snow. Just a heads-up for those of you who still play Wild World (if you didn’t know this already).

Thursday

The good news is that Tom Nook had a spotlight product today. The bad news is that it was a hamster cage again! That makes three times already that the spotlight product has been a hamster cage! And I’ve only had a handful of spotlight items so far…how can the items be hamsters half the time? 🤣🐹🐹🐹🤣

Goldie was still sick with a cold, so I retrieved some medicine for her.

Goldie flies through the air (?) and takes her medicine.

Mint showed me a letter she got, saying that even coconut thieves think they are good people.

Listen up, Mint! Deep down inside, most people think that they're good people. Even coconut thieves. Just saying. -From a bad person

Saturday

Teddy was out looking for a dung beetle tonight. Maybe he should find some dung first.

Teddy: Yaaarghgh! Why can't I find a dung beetle...

Rosie was all packed up and ready to leave me, but I got her to change her mind. I don’t want to let her go!

Goldie was still sick, so I gave her some medicine once again.

I planted more trees and flowers every day I played this week, but I’m still getting that “not passing, not failing” message at town hall.

Pelly: Hmm... Well, it's not passing, but it's not failing either.

Of course, I’m going to keep trying! Hopefully I’ll reach perfect town status soon, maybe even next week? We’ll see!

Snow & Alibis

Last night, Benedict was talking about the footprints that are left when we walk on the beach. But the conversation took a surprising turn when he said it gave him ideas on how to fake alibis! Wow, what is Benedict up to?

Benedict: It makes me think of different ways to fake alibis!

That was a curious conversation, but the one I had with Rosie was just as puzzling. She said it was going to be a “pain in the tush” to get back home, so she wondered if she should just stay over at Teddy’s house! 😮

Rosie: Gosh, just getting back to my place is gonna be such a pain in the tush...
Rosie: Think I oughta stay over at Teddy's house for dinner tonight, but no?

Oh, and did I mention she was standing next to her own house?! Does she have a thing for Teddy now? Where did that come from?

Mint offered me a cafe shirt for 550 bells, and I told her it’s a deal. However, she reacted as if I had turned down the offer! She said she was going to sell it at Nook’s shop instead! What is going on??

Mint: ...Just forget it! I'm going to sell it at Tom Nook's shop. You're missing out.

I played again tonight, and it was snowing! Finally!

Big Top was as happy to see the snow as I was…if not more.

Big Top: Yay! Snow! It's snowing!

I made a delivery for Benedict, and took a package over to Rosie. There was a rose shirt inside. Hmm, a rose for Rosie.

Rosie: A rose shirt... Going for the safe choice, huh, but no?

I visited Margie, and she told me that clothes were the building blocks of fashion…like gum. 😛

Margie: But I think clothes are the building blocks of fashion, like gum!

Forest’s other elephant said my face reminds him of frothy green tea! I don’t even know what is going on in this town any more.

Big Top: ...You know, your face kinda reminds me of that sweety, frothy green tea...
Don’t drink me.

A few other notes:

  • At Nookington’s, I bought a large festive tree for my house.
  • Goldie was sick, so I gave her some medicine.
  • Crazy Redd had an “awesome painting” for sale, which is the fake version of the amazing painting. Most fakes don’t have different names, but this is the one exception.

Now that the snow is here, I’m going to be checking regularly for snow (and playing on days when I see snow at the title screen). I’ve also started to work on my town status. I’ve been planting extra flowers and trees lately, but I probably have a long way to go. Wish me luck and I’ll see you next time. Have a great day!

Teddy Takeback

Yesterday, Teddy was prepared to move out of town, but I made him reconsider.

Rosie told me she was on a mint tea diet, so she has to drink ten gallons of mint tea every day! I wonder what Mint thinks about this.

Rosie: I have to drink ten gallons of mint tea every single day!
I wonder if she’s just drinking Mint’s bath water. Yuck.

Speaking of Mint, she had some trivia questions for me. She told me to choose my answer by choosing a red card or a white card. The first two questions were pretty easy, but the third one was a bit odd…

Mint: Here it is! What color are the mayor's long johns?!

I guessed that they were red, but I was wrong. The correct answer was…pink?!

Mint: Oh, no... Too bad! The mayor's long johns are, in fact, pink! Ahhhhhh!

She said I was supposed to pick both the red and white cards to make pink. But of course, there was no way of actually doing that. This game was rigged! And I got no prize. 🙁

There was finally another spotlight product at Nookington’s, but it was just a white king. Not a painting.

Timmy: You have a keen eye! That's our spotlight product...the white king!

Today, I visited Teddy, and he told me he was giving me a shanty mat for free.

Teddy: I'm gonna give you my shanty mat for free, in a pond!

But before he handed it over, he actually changed his mind and kept it!

Teddy: ...Hey, on second thought... it's really not your color, so never mind, in a pond!

How rude! And my pockets were not full, so that’s not why he changed his mind. See, this is exactly why I don’t like Teddy as much in Wild World as I do in other Animal Crossing games. Ugh, I should have let him move out yesterday. I need to remember to let him go next time!

I ran into Kabuki outside, and he told me Crazy Redd’s password, “cash in other.” But that information came with a caveat: He heard the password from Teddy, so it may not be reliable. 😀

Kabuki: But I heard it from Teddy, so no guarantees, meooo-OH!

Considering this was right after Teddy lied to me, I appreciated the Teddy diss (and it made me laugh). I’d give Kabuki a high-five if I could. 😛

As for Crazy Redd, he had a solemn painting for sale. I didn’t need it.

Goldie was sick with a cold, so I bought some medicine for her. She called me her hero!

Goldie: The medicine really did the trick. I hereby pronounce Jeff to be my hero!

I’m still waiting for the first snow of the season in Wild World. Hopefully it will start falling soon.
