Day 4 – I Got My House!

I started up the game today by coming out of my house. Wait, how is that possible? Apparently Nook built the house around me as I slept. At any rate, I’m glad I’m not homeless any more.

My brand new house!I had a letter from my Mom in my mailbox; she sent me a modern wood sofa. As I went inside to check out my house, Isabelle barged in. She said she had some wallpaper to give me as a housewarming gift. That was nice of her. Unfortunately, my pockets were full, so she said she’ll mail it to me instead. That situation makes so little sense when you imagine it happening in real life.

Isabelle: That reminds me! I brought over some wallpaper to celebrate your new home!I still put my sofa and kart down to see how they looked. The kart has a parasail, like the karts from Mario Kart 7.

My kart from Mario Kart on display in my house.I then went over to Re-Tail to sell all the stuff in my pockets. No matter what time of day, this kid is always sleeping. And Reese yells at me when I try to talk to him.

The sleeping blue alpaca, Cyrus.I then headed over to Nook Homes on Main Street. He told me I owe him 39,800 bells now. Considering how generous the money rocks are in this game, that shouldn’t take me long. He also told me that I’m required to sign up for the Happy Room Academy inspections. He said they will come over to my house and inspect my house…and my hygiene?! That sounds really invasive. What are they going to do? Inspect my teeth and sniff my armpits?

Tom Nook: The inspection is a comprehensive look at your room and furniture layout, your hygiene level, et cetera.
“Please turn to look at that filthy wall…and cough.”

I then went to Nookling Junction. Oooh, a bug net! I had to buy that. And every fancy house simply must have a steamroller, so I bought that too.

A bug net and steamroller on sale in Nookling Junction.I then bought my fortune cookie with two Play Coins. At first, he told me it wasn’t a winner…

Tommy: Awwww... I'm sorry to say, but Number 16 is not a winner...But he was faking me out. He said as a consolation prize, I get…a steamroller. WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I just spent 4,000 bells on a steamroller! UGH!

Tommy: Please accept this item, a steamroller, as a consolation prize! So close!I guess the moral of the story is to buy your fortune cookie before you buy anything else. But still, what are the odds?

Anyway, I went outside to try out my bug net. My first bug was a yellow butterfly.

I caught a yellow butterfly! Now to catch a toastfly!I caught five bugs in total. While walking around, I saw a construction site. It looks like Fuchsia is going to be moving in tomorrow. A quick web search reveals that Fuchsia is a pink deer. Well, at least she’s not Jambette or Elise.

Sign: This spot reserved for Fuchsia's new home. -Nook's HomesI went over to town hall and sat in my mayor’s chair.  Even though I now have a house, I still can’t get my town development permit because my approval rating is not 100%. Isabelle told me to sell things at Re-Tail to improve my rating. Of course, I have been selling things at Re-Tail. Perhaps a certain monetary amount must be reached.

Isabelle: Well, you already own a house, and according to a recent survey, your approval rating is 65 percent.I then did a little fishing. I saw a balloon present floating by in the distance.

Fishing in the ocean as a balloon present floats by in the distance. After I was done there, I headed to the museum to donate my catches and have some fossils identified. And then I noticed something. You can have Blathers identify multiple fossils at once! Likewise, you can donate multiple items at once too! Wow! This is seriously a huge improvement, since previous Animal Crossing games made you do these tasks one painstaking item at a time.

Blathers: Hoo hoot! Oh, several things, I see!I was about done playing, but I made one last stop at home. I put my steamroller (well, one of them) in the middle of my house. So fancy, right? The HRA is going to love me now. Well, assuming I keep my ears clean.

My new fancy steamroller on display in my house. Please check back every day for the latest updates. And if you know of any other Animal Crossing fans that may enjoy this blog, please share the link with them. Thank you all for reading!

Day 3 – Paying Off My Debt

Shortly after starting up the game today, I saw Saharah the camel. However, she has a strict “no homeless” policy so I can’t get anything from her this time.

Saharah: This is no good for me. Very no good. I cannot help your tent. So sorry now.I then saw a new house, it must be Tex. I wasn’t sure what kind of animal to expect with a name like Tex. Maybe a bull? Boy, was I wrong. A penguin. I’m guessing the name is ironic. Buy WHY do I keep getting all the ugly animals?

Tex: Hey, you're Jeff, right? I just moved here, but I've already heard your name all over town.Back outside, I dug up a fossil…and took an accidental picture. I dug u!

Look! I dug uI talked to Harry (as Yuka eavesdropped) and he was telling me about the basics of the game: Sell fruit and seashells for money. Yeah yeah, I know the routine, Mr. Mustache.

Harry: That's free fruit! Open for dibs!I found the money rock today, and it really paid off! I got eight hits in, for a total of 16,100 bells! That’s a big chunk of change!

The 16,100 bells I got from today's money rock!I then took my newfound fortune to Tom Nook. I easily had enough money to pay my 10,000-bell debt. That means my house will be ready tomorrow! Awesome!

Tom Nook: Yes, yes! Got it! I will make sure your house is ready to go by tomorrow morning.I paid the down payment! I'll be able to move into my home tomorrow!Since I still had money left over, I went to see what Nookling Junction had for sale. Unfortunately, the tools were the same as yesterday’s. I already have a fishing rod and shovel; I just need…everything else.

A fishing rod and shovel on sale at Nookling Junction. But I bought the fortune cookie and got fortune #32:

You should consider a career as a professional kart racer. (#32)Ooh, that makes me want to play Mario Kart. I redeemed my fortune for…a kart! Best 2 Play Coins I ever spent!

Timmy: Ah, congratulations! The prize for Number 32 is great--a kart! There is a slight problem with the kart though…I can’t see it. You can’t place items in a tent, or even go inside, so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow before I can take a look at the kart.

UPDATE: You actually can go inside tents. But I was just trying to walk right in, like you would on GameCube, and that doesn’t work. You have to press the button to open the door as if it was a house. My mistake!

I walked over to the Able Sisters next, and they had some basketball shorts. I bought them, so I could change out of those Varia Suit pants I had been wearing. No offense to Samus Aran or any other spacewomen out there, but those pants did not look good on me. I like these shorts much better.

Wearing some basketball shorts I bought at Able Sisters.Later on, I found a dig spot and I was about to dig it up. And then I fell in it instead. I guess I won’t be adding a second pitfall seed to my inventory today. I noticed that we now sweat when we’re struggling to get out of a pitfall.

Me struggling to get out of a pitfall. As I was jumping out of the hole, I heard something…a balloon present! Of course I have no slingshot, so I could only hopelessly stare up at it. I will never know what item it contained.

A balloon present floating by. I was unable to shoot it down. After that, I decided to do some river fishing. I caught five new fish, including a koi.

I caught a koi! Can't play koi with me!I also followed the river to where the waterfall emptied into the ocean. Even though I didn’t catch any fish right here, it was nice to see the waterfall and the ocean waves in the same picture.

Fishing in the ocean from the top of the cliff (at the waterfall). That’s all for now, but check back soon. Tomorrow, I’ll be back with another update. I’ll get my house tomorrow, so I’m a little excited. Thanks for stopping by!

An Unlucky Day 2

It’s Day 2 for me in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I headed over to Nook Homes to see how much I owed him; the total is 10,000 bells. He needs that money before he can start building my house.

Tom Nook: So the down payment is nothing more than a paltry 10,000 bells.I then headed over to Nookling Junction. I bought another fortune cookie and ate it. My fortune was the same as yesterday’s, #42. I redeemed them both for two pairs of Varia Suit pants. It’s pretty cool that you can get items like this just using play coins, not bells. Definitely helpful when you’re just starting out and don’t have many bells yet.

Tommy: Ah, congratulations! The prize for Number 42 is great--some Varia Suit pants! So I tried on the Varia Suit pants. Uhhhh these don’t look so good on me…

Me wearing the Varia Suit pants. The worst part? I can’t take them off! There’s no option to take your pants off! At least not that I can find! I’ll have to buy some other pants to replace them with, I guess. Until then, I’ll be walking around with spacewoman legs.

In New Leaf, you take pictures by pressing L and R at the same time. Unfortunately, I tend to take pictures by accident when running or when trying to speed up speech bubbles. I’ll have to get out of that habit of pressing them both unless I’m purposely taking a picture.

Anyway, I decided to shake my first tree. Just my luck… BEES! I tried to escape into a nearby house, but Aurora wasn’t home…

Sign: I'm not at home right now. -AuroraNeedless to say, I got stung. On the bright side, you can pick up the beehive after you’re done getting stung. (It sells for 500 bells).

Ow! Ow ow ow... I got stung by bees! After collecting some peaches, I headed back to the store to buy a shovel and a fishing rod. I also checked to see what that item was in the back of the store. A potty? With…handlebars? Whatever floats your boat, man.

Tommy: Ah, a potty! A fine item, yes?I then went around town, looking for places to use my shovel. I ran into Yuka, who promptly insulted my face.

Yuka: Oh, Jeff, I'm sorry about your face. Although...the bee stings do make you look kind of tough. When I went around banging some rocks, one of the rocks shattered!

What's this...? The rock broke apart and something was inside...?There was a ruby inside! Nice!

The ruby that was inside the fake rock.I wanted to see how much the ruby was worth, so I took it to the Re-Tail store and Reese paid me 2,000 bells for it.

Reese: Ooh, a ruby! I can take that item off your hands for 2,000 bells, if that's OK?As I was leaving, Yuka came into the store. She bought something, and then said she was going to go on the internet to see how much it’s really worth.

Yuka: I'm pretty sure I got a good deal... but I must know exactly HOW good. To the internet!Back outside, I dug up my first pitfall seed. Who should get it? Yuka or Gabi? Decisions, decisions…

Look! I dug up a pitfall seed!I headed over to town hall, where Isabelle informed me of my approval rating: 17%. That’s fine by me, because my approval rating of my villagers is also 17%; Aurora is the only villager I like.

Isabelle: Now, according to a preliminary survey, your current approval rating is 17 percent.I then remembered I had a fishing rod, so I headed south to the ocean. I saw my first fish shadow and…wouldn’t you know it? My first fish is a sea bass.

I caught a sea bass! See? A bass!I caught five fish in all: sea bass, sea horse, horse mackerel, rainbow trout, and a zebra turkeyfish. As I returned up north, I saw a piece of land marked off. “This spot reserved for Tex’s new home.” So it tells you which animal is about to move in. That’s a nice feature.

Sign: This spot reserved for Tex's new home. -Nook's HomesMy last task of the evening was a stop at the museum. I donated my five fish and a fossil I dug up, which turned out to be a Peking man.

Blathers: Oh my! Upon examination, it's most certainly a Peking man!And that about wraps it up for today. Just a note though…there may be times I go back and play the game more after I post my blog entry. If anything eventful happens, I may add an update to the blog or possibly even another blog entry. Probably not tonight though, so check back tomorrow for another update.

I’m Mayor Jeff and I approve this message.
