Bug-Off Competition

Late last night, Wendy got to visit her own island for the first time. She invited me to come along with her, so I did. After some bad haircuts yesterday, we were wearing blue Pikmin hats to cover up.

Two blue Pikmin ride Kapp'n's boat out to the island. We were doing a lot of swimming and diving, and I caught this ugly creature: a giant isopod.

I caught a giant isopod! That's a horror if ever one existed! And on more than one occasion, we had to flee from an attacking jellyfish!

Jeff and Wendy, both dressed as blue Pikmin, fleeing from a jellyfish. We stayed on the island a long time, but we eventually returned to Oakville. In Wendy’s house, we discovered that while sitting in a chair, you can move around a bit. It makes a “whoop” sound effect and we kept doing it and cracking ourselves up.

Wendy "whooping" in a chair.I offered to let her use my wet suit overnight, but I had to give her a warning about it…

Jeff: I peed in it.And of course, I continued using my toy hammer on her.

Blue Pikmin Jeff smacking blue Pikmin Wendy with a toy hammer. Before she ended the party, she tested out the wet suit by jumping off the cliff right outside her house.

Blue Pikmin diving off a cliff.Today, the Bug-Off competition was held. I still had some bugs left over from the island last night, so I gave a couple of them to Nat. A cyclommatus stag took over first place, with 87 points. Nat rewarded me with a caterpillar sofa.

Nat: Well then, I've got a special prize for you. It's a rather smashing caterpillar sofa! This is what it looks like:

The caterpillar sofa I got from Nat, on display in my house.I also saw Phineas in town today. He gave me a Seafood Maniac badge for finding many things while diving.

I got the Seafood Maniac badge! I've found so many different things under the sea!^I literally had to take that picture four times because I kept blinking. This game has too much blinking! But Phineas wasn’t done with me; he also gave me a badge for playing a lot!

I got the Village Representative badge! This is my prize for playing a lot!I then took some fruit to Shrunk, and he taught me the distress emotion. It now appears that I have half of the emotions in the game.

Shrunk: "Congrats! I feel like such a lucky guy! Of all the fish in the sea, I somehow caught a whale!"I also stopped at the cafe for some coffee. While there, I saw KK enjoying some coffee as well. Well technically, he was called “DJ KK” now. “Villager Jeff” isn’t so sure he approves.

DJ KK: Hmmm... I'm feeling a groovy riff. Could be a hit, so don't throw a fit...Brewster told me that starting tomorrow, I can get coffee to-go by ordering from the counter on the right.

Brewster: You can make use of...the counter on the right, if you like... I offer takeout coffee there...After 6:00, I went into Nat’s tent for the Bug-Off results ceremony. My bug remained in first place, and I won the competition! Big Top came in 2nd place, and Katt finished third.

Jeff stands atop the Bug-Off winners' podium. Big Top stands in 2nd place and Katt stands in 3rd.At 8:00, I was going to play with Ness/Bushido, but he kept getting error messages when trying to visit Forest. He’s going to try adjusting his router settings to get things to work, but he didn’t want to fool with it today. But I decided to open my gate anyway. So Wendy and Rae came over to play.

Wendy and Rae trying out my stick figure face cutout standee design. It’s Saturday night, so we went up to Club LOL for some K.K. songs. After two songs, Joey also came over to visit. He joined us in the club for a couple more songs.

K.K. Slider performs for a full house. We hung out in the museum for a while and then spent some time at the cafe. The waiter never came out to serve us! What lousy service!

Four of us sitting in the cafe.We also did the chair “whooping” thing, which was good for some more laughs.

Tabby was hiding indoors again today, so I went to check out her house. She has a wall-mounted fan that’s really cool. It’s so high up that your character has to literally jump to turn it on or off. This was another surprisingly amusing thing to do.

Me jumping up to turn Tabby's fan on and off.We then headed out to the island for some fishing, bug-catching, and swimming.

Kapp'n, singing: Ya best be sure, sneakin' up on a friend, it really be yer friend, not some random schmoe. After a short while, I ended the party for the night. Thanks for coming, Wendy, Rae, and Joey! I had a good time!

I’ll be back tomorrow night with another update, so I hope to see you all then. Enjoy your weekend!

Shampoodle

Today, Reese confirmed that the scary painting I got from Crazy Redd was a fake.

Reese: Oh no! If you look very closely at it, you can see it's a fake!So I started my daily search for fossils and the money rock. I also stopped in the cafe for a cup of coffee.

Now THAT'S a good cup of coffee, if you don't mind having to spend a few days recovering from it!And as expected, I met my newest neighbor……..Tabby.  Anytime you say her name, be sure to start with a long pause and make sure there’s a lot of disappointment in your voice as you pronounce it. That’s the correct way to say it (because I’m the mayor and I say so). 😀

Tabby: Hey! A new friend! I just moved into town. I'm Tabby!I found four fossils today, and then I headed up to Main Street. Shrunk taught me the bashfulness emotion.

Shrunk: I got very embarrassed! I mean, 110?! Do I really look that YOUNG to you?!And further down Main Street, the construction was complete! The salon, Shampoodle, is open for business!

The outside of Shampoodle, the new hair salon in town!
Is it just me, or does the Shampoodle/Able Sisters building look a bit like a face?

Anyway, I know a lot of you used my Animal Crossing New Leaf Face Guide, and some of you are hoping I make a hair guide as well. The good news is that I will indeed be making one. However, I’m not going to have much time this weekend to work on it–not to mention it seems more complicated than the face guide–so it probably won’t be done for a while yet. Hopefully sometime next week, but I can’t make any promises. (Update: Here is the hair guide).

For now, I tested it out with all of the first-choice options (and all sliders to the top). The final result looks a lot like bed-head.

Harriet, at Shampoodle: That'll be 3,000 bells, please!
You charge 3,000 bells for THAT?

I was about done playing when Wendy signed on. She asked if I got Shampoodle, and when I told her I did, she asked to come over for a quick style. So she came over, and after she went inside, I tried to follow her in. But I couldn’t. Apparently only one customer is allowed in the salon at a time. So why are there two chairs in there??

Harriet: I'm sorry! I'm styling other customers right now. Please come back later!Wendy came out disappointed; she didn’t get quite what she wanted.

Wendy, talking about her hair: It's gray. -.-I soon ended the party. But then I remembered that I had a toy hammer I haven’t used on any animals yet! Tabby was still indoors, so she got to escape my wrath for today. So I looked around until I found Katt. Hey Katt… STOP!

Smacking Katt with a toy hammer.HAMMER TIME!

Katt: Ooooooouch! ...That hurt! What do you think you're doing? That was fun. But I can’t wait to try it out on Tabby.

That’s all for today, but I’ll be back with more tomorrow night! See you then!

Brewster’s Cafe

Last night, I finished paying off the cafe project. I also went to the island and bought a Club Tortimer membership. It lets you visit the island with random players from your continent or from around the world.

Grams: That be the application form for Club Tortimer.Today, I went back to Re-Tail to get my customized astro clock back from Cyrus. It looks nice, but I would have preferred a darker shade of blue.

My customized astro clock in blue at Re-Tail.I then headed over to Forest’s newest attraction: the cafe!

The outside of my new cafe PWP!Brewster was inside, serving coffee. The cafe looks bigger and nicer than his old coffee shop, The Roost.

The inside of the Roost cafe. And of course, I ordered a cup of joe.

Me, after drinking coffee at the Roost: What a happy moment! I feel like my entire body is being enveloped by the scent of the coffee. But after just one cup, he cut me off!

Brewster: ...I'm sorry. I can't serve you any more today...
I’ll be okay to get home! I have designated pushers!

So I went back outside and saw Crazy Redd’s tent. I went inside, but I didn’t know which of his four items was the real one. So I took a chance on this scary painting.

Redd: Whoa! I see you've got eyes only for that scary painting there! I'd say it has eyes for you too! After I was done in there, I saw a new area roped off; a new animal is moving in. Who could it be? So I read the sign…and then I read it again in hopes that it didn’t say what I thought it said. But sadly, it’s true: Tabby is moving in. NOOOOOOooooOooOOOOoOoo….

Sign: This spot reserved for Tabby's new home. -Nook's HomesAfter receiving such frightening news, I needed some comedy. So I headed up to Club LOL. Shrunk taught me a new emotion, delight. It’s the clapping/applauding emotion, which is one of my favorites.

Shrunk: C'mon! Who wants to hear my new joke?! Just clap!On Main Street, the area around the Able Sisters was still under construction. I’m hoping I’ll get Shampoodle tomorrow.

When I returned to town, I went in to check on Aurora. She said she was just about to write a poem about a handkerchief. I’m not sure that’s the best poem topic, but still, it’s nothing to sneeze at.

Aurora: Welcome to my home, Jeff! I was just sitting down to write a poem about a handkerchief. And then I decided to try out Club Tortimer. I chose to play with other North American players.

Kapp'n: Heard me a rumor that ye be one o' them fancy-pants Club Tortimer members. But when I got there, I was the only one there! So I returned to Forest, and tried again with worldwide players. Once again, no one was there but me. I decided to give it one last try, with North American players, and this time there was one other player there. His name was Storphen, and we played a couple island tours. He beat me both times.

But I was in the mood for some island tours with more players, so I opened my gate for a little bit. Chris and Wendy came over, and we headed out to the island.

Kapp'n, singing: Oh, summertime is good for these boat rides. Just leave your fate to me and to the tides! We played a butterfly-catching game and the toy hammer game. Both times, Chris got first place, I got second place, and Wendy got last place.

Wendy, Chris, and Jeff celebrate a successful island tour. Here is a video of the butterfly competition:

The island had toy hammers for sale, so we each bought one. When we returned to shore, we put them to good use.

Hitting each other with toy hammers. That wrapped up our night in New Leaf.

Just one last note. A question I’m seeing a lot is from people wondering how to get their friend code and how to add people. New Leaf doesn’t have its own separate friend codes, it uses your 3DS friend roster. From your 3DS menu, you’ll want to click the smiley face at the top to see your friend code and to add other people.

That’s all for now, but have a good Friday, everyone!
