Summer Solstice 2014

I started up the game this evening, and after checking my mail, I came to a horrible realization: It was after 6 p.m., and I had already missed the Bug-Off competition! I quickly rushed to the event plaza and spoke with Nat. He told me to go inside the tent for the awards ceremony, and that’s all he would say. So I went inside and saw that Nan won the competition with a 57-point peacock butterfly.

Nan celebrating a Bug-Off win.But what about my golden net?? Nat didn’t provide me with the option! It looked like I would have to wait until the next Bug-Off to get it!

But I turned my wireless switch on and saw that Wendy was online. She’s an hour behind me, so I asked if I could try asking her Nat about it. I figured it was a long shot, but it was worth a try.

So I was legitimately surprised when there was an option to show Wendy’s Nat my bug collection! He took a look and gave me my golden net!

Nat: By the queen's beard! Could it be? You've fully completed your bug collection!Awesome!

Awesome!I got it out and gave it a few test swings.

Hitting Nat with my new gold net.Today is also the summer solstice, and there’s a special face-cutout standee near Nat’s tent. Wendy and I tried it out. Well, after she was done hitting it with her net by mistake.

Wendy accidentally hits the cutout with her net.Me and Wendy using the face-cutout standee for the summer solstice.Wendy had some pears to sell, so I opened up my gate and she came over. My villagers were commenting on how they were surprised I didn’t get an award at the Bug-Off.

Aurora: Oh! I'm really surprised you didn't get an award, Sweet-J! I wonder if a bug chewed through your net.Wendy told me she was doing some shopping, and when I went in the Emporium, I saw that she wasn’t joking around! She practically bought out the whole first floor!

The first floor of the shop nearly sold out. That included some fortune cookies, which she ate in front of me. She didn’t even ask if I was hungry! Rude.

Wendy finds a fortune in her cookie.Over by the museum, we tried some Main Street glitching.

Glitching on Main Street.I enjoyed wading in the pond.

Standing in the pond by the museum. But I didn’t stop there! I went up onto the museum.

Glitching on the museum. And I was able to walk behind/under Main Street all the way out to the ocean.

Walking in the ocean.I was also able to walk completely under Main Street. Everything looked very glitchy down here.

Glitching under Main Street.I made it onto the grass just in front of Main Street, and it looked better here.

Looking up at Main Street. After that, I ended the party and turned the game off for a while. When I returned later, fireflies were out…even though it was still light out, of course. The sun will not go down at all tonight.

A firefly out in the daylight.Isabelle was over at town hall, so I made sure to speak to her.

Isabelle: Hello, Mayor! Today is the Summer Solstice! It's also the day of the Bug-Off! Perfect day for both! She gave me a pair of ladder shades, saying they will help me catch bugs without me having to squint. She also said I’d look handsome in them.

Isabelle: Plus, I think you'd look very handsome in them! She was wrong.

Me trying on the ladder shades.Up at the Dream Suite, Luna told me Saarah from Pokotown was my most recent dream visitor. And in Club LOL, I enjoyed a performance of K.K. Rally.

I hope you all had a great summer solstice, and I hope your Bug-Off went better than mine! See you next time!

Disconnected

I got Skye’s goodbye letter in the mail today. She also attached her picture to the letter.

Skye's goodbye letter. There was a notice posted on the bulletin board reminding everyone that tomorrow is the summer solstice. It’s the longest day of the year, and New Leaf takes it to an extreme: The sun will be out all day (and night) long!

Up at the Dream Suite, Luna told me that Emily from Archades was my most recent dream visitor. And in the Happy Homes Showcase, Arnold gave me this indigo pinwheel.

Getting a pinwheel from Arnold. And now that Skye is gone, that means another reject former villager starts appearing on Main Street. I’ll now be seeing Tex for many months to come. Lucky me.

Tex: Oh, what a coincidence, Jeff!At 10:00, I opened my gate for Friday Night Forest. Wendy came over to visit, and she “accidentally” stole a gold rose.

A guilty Wendy after picking up a gold rose. She tried to replace it with a perfect pear, but I saw through that clever disguise. Later, while she was sitting on a stump, I ate a famous mushroom.

Turning into a giant.Shortly before 11:00, T. Zelda came over, followed by someone else…who disconnected us upon arrival. I reopened, and it was revealed that the “someone” was Saarah. She came over, and T. Zelda and Wendy returned as well. We did some stump glitching…I’m the beetle in this picture.

Several of us standing in the same spot.We talked about tomorrow being both the Bug-Off and the summer solstice, and how Isabelle will be at town hall instead of the event plaza.

Chatting with Saarah and T Zelda. We went out to the island and we were about to begin an easy hide-and-seek tour. And then we disconnected again. I reopened, and Saarah returned, but Wendy and T. Zelda didn’t. I was hiding in town, and Saarah tried finding me. But we disconnected again, and this time I ended my night. Have a good weekend, everyone!

Bye Bye, Skye

Today was Skye’s moving day, so I went to say goodbye to her.

Skye: Did you come to help me move?It was raining in Forest tonight, and Kidd was waterlogged.

Kidd: Is it going to keep RAINING all over us until tomorrow? I'm so waterlogged already, oh pooh.Down on the beach, I caught a hammerhead shark. I think this is the first shark I’ve caught from the mainland this year. And no, I’m not eating it in the following picture. Or kissing it. Well, maybe one little smooch.

Catching a hammerhead shark.Up at the Dream Suite, Luna told me Ashley from Buffalo was my most recent dream visitor.

I posted comments for Gia, who was supposed to adopt Skye this evening. Unfortunately, she wasn’t responding. After two and a half hours, she got ahold of me and told me she couldn’t pick up Skye tonight. So I tried the backup, Ariel. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get ahold of her either.

I think from now on, I’m going to post a time limit ahead of time (such as ‘be online by 7pm’) so it doesn’t take me all night to do this. But ultimately, I did find a taker for Skye: Trevor from Trevland.

Trevor from Trevland has just arrived in Forest. He spoke with Skye, and she will be moving into Trevland tomorrow. I hope you enjoy her, Trevor! And Skye, I hope you enjoy your new life! It’s been a pleasure having you around, wolf-girl.

Skye: By the way, I decided to make Trevland my new home! One more note: Mayor Julianne of Fayette has submitted a couple of “The Walking Dead” outfits to theĀ QR Codes page. So check them out if you’d like!
