On Tuesday, I received Julian’s goodbye letter in the mail. He also enclosed his picture. So long, Julian! See you soon.
I found my former villager Velma has started appearing on Main Street. I said hello to her as she went shopping.
Last night, I saw that Harvey had this outdoor sign for sale. It looks like it’s made for a coffee shop.
I bought it, but I quickly found out that the outdoor sign can not be used outdoors. What’s the point of calling it that then?
Still, I took it up to Re-Tail to see what customization options were available. The only one was to turn it into a blue signboard. But when I picked it up later, it wasn’t just the color that had changed. Instead of a coffee cup, it now shows a cat reading a book? Good choice for a library, a bookstore…or a school for cats, I suppose.
I found Kevin Bacon at the campsite, but I wasn’t in the mood for pork.
When I checked out the drive-in campground, I found Jack there for the first time. At first, he said “trick or treat,” but he quickly corrected himself.
Since he’s so good at scaring people, I decided to turn the tables and scare him! HONK!
Today, Hamlet asked me to bury a time capsule for him. I buried it in the top-left (northwest) corner of town, as usual.
I went up to the Happy Homes Showcase for the first time since the update, and Digby had something to tell me. He said that the exhibition space can only be accessed by people playing the new version (Welcome Amiibo).
However, all of the houses on display from before the update were still there. But maybe new ones won’t appear unless they’ve updated their game? This seems like it will make it even harder to get those StreetPass badges, since many people haven’t updated their game. Ugh.
Anyway, my recent dream visitors have been Nisno from Partom C, Paige from Congo, and Ruben from Fun Town. Hamlet also mentioned Serenity from Pink Sky. Thank you all for stopping by!
Hey Jeff! I decided to do a mini-review of Welcome amiibo now I have played through all the new features! (I’m probably gonna do these irregularly for some of the games you and me are both interested in AKA my DMW2 review) So, here goes, I guess:
The amiibo support added is awesome. Being able to move in/kick out villagers at will with amiibo cards is brilliant, especially for those with specific dream villagers. It works seamlessly too(for me anyway). It’s nice to see Wisp back as well. The campground has an appealing aesthetic, particularly at night when the campfire is burning. I don’t think anything amazing of Harvey but he’s still nice enough. It’s also pretty fun to see one day only animals like Chip and Franklin appear regularly in the campground. Also, Blanca with a face on. 😀
It’s great to see most of the items from Happy Home Designer return, and the wealth of new items, although it may take a while for catalogue completionists because they’re pretty expensive for the rate you obtain the coupons. Town Initiatives are a fine addition to give extra incentive but some of them are a bit repetitive.
I love the new crossover villagers but I think a couple of them break the fourth wall too much (A villager called W. Link was obviously not originally designed for the game). Anyway, the minigames. Desert Island Escape was a great conversion from the Wii U and I’d say it’s even better here. Puzzle League though, for me, just isn’t very fun and after beating the story mode I probably won’t be returning.
The secret storeroom is ingenious and perfect for all those rare event items you just don’t have the room for in the existing storage. The HHD controls are much welcomed, and the new options (clothes on walls Tec) though they still don’t have the full wealth of options that HHD had unfortunately. For the convenience, it’s pretty cheap too.
There’s one annoyance for me: Every time you approach the CAT Machine, it says “Welcome to the NEW CAT Machine.” So even if it’s been a year since the update it’ll still say it’s new.
And another is how the logo/name references in-game constantly refer to “New Leaf Welcome Amiibo.” I think the Welcome Amiibo name changes should’ve beeen reserved for the new physical edition, since I own New Leaf, not New Leaf Welcome Amiibo and I don’t want the game to sound like I’ve just bought some sort of remake (which I sort of have but still :P) Anyway, that’s just me being finicky though lol
VERDICT
This update makes life so much more enjoyable for those who want their dream villagers and/or want that hated villager out of town right now. The amiibo support works great, and coupled with the WEALTH of new items, plus the fun Desert Island Escape, it adds plenty more hours to the game. The returning villager line-up is pretty good with only a few questionable additions. The secret storeroom and HHD controls are brilliant convenience features too. So, despite a few downsides like the poorly-designed imo Puzzle League and annoying-for-me-anyway name changes, this update is brilliant and adds so much more fun to an already brilliant game.
MY SCORE: 9/10
Great review. Thanks for sharing it. 🙂

Hi Bunny! Sorry, I’m not adding 3DS friends now. But I do update this blog at least twice a week, so look for more entries soon! 🙂
I haven’t played ACNL in quite some time, but that new update looks cool! Nice post.
Yeah, it adds quite a bit. Definitely worth the download.
That sign is awesome 😉 Cats and books are the best!
I am Nisno, The last time I dreamed, Your town is awesome! (Sorry, i am french.)
Hi, and thank you! Bonjour! 🙂
Can you please stop all of these jokes about meat. I know Kevin Bacon is a person but stop all of these jokes. I do really like your blog but I sometimes just don’t like it when you make them jokes
You can’t tell him what to do just because you’re a vegetarian and you disagree with his sense of humour…
My streetpass homes were still there, too. And I have another question: If there is a day where you’ll be letting go Hamlet, are you willing to give it to me?
I don’t like promising villagers to anyone far in advance. But once Hamlet asks to leave, I’ll post it in the blog. At that point, ask me about him, and you’ll have a good shot.
Okay, thanks for letting me know!
