Halloween 2021

I played yesterday (October 30th), and Cube warned me to have enough candy for Halloween, or else I’ll be getting pranked.

Cube: It's finally Halloween tomorrow! You'd better get some candy together, or you might get pranked!

Even though the shop only sells one piece of candy a day, I decided to test my luck during the Halloween festivities tonight. The event works differently in New Leaf than it does in other games, at least when it comes to indoor villagers. We have to wear the specific mask that will scare each villager. If we choose correctly, they will give us candy.

Molly: WAAAAH! Please, scary ghost, take a piece of candy and go away!

I had notes for some of my villagers thanks to a previous blog entry. However, I didn’t have any notes for Boots, and I guessed wrong. That meant if I wanted candy from him, I had to play a game for it. Unfortunately, he chose the made-ya-look game. You have to guess which direction the villager will turn their head…and I guessed wrong.

Boots: Aw, you flunked the last round.
Boots: This means... Hooray! I won the game! In 1 bite!

He punished me, although I didn’t notice the problem immediately because my clothes didn’t change. But I did have some old flooring in my pockets that wasn’t there before. I later figured it out when I went to dig up a fossil: My shovel was gone! My silver shovel got turned into old flooring!

For some reason, I was thinking tools were safe…and the gold ones are safe. But I had been using the silver shovel, so I’ll have to check out the museum gift shop to replace it. Oops.

When I visited Cube, I also guessed his fear wrong…

Cube: A huh huh huh! I know you're trying to scare me, but your getup is just cracking me up!

But fortunately, he wanted to play charades. That mini-game is pretty easy to win, since it’s not just random chance.

Outside, the villagers dressed up as Jack are pretty easy to avoid (unlike on GameCube). But they do still try to chase you if you get too close to them.

Two villagers wearing pumpkins try to chase me down.

Overall, the event went pretty well. I got some lollipops from villagers and gave them to Jack for creepy furniture.

Jack: Sooo sweeet!

I played long enough to acquire four of the creepy items: Jack gave me two creepy statues, a creepy coffin, and a creepy bat stone. I sold them all for a total of…2,600 bells? Wait, that’s it? This is not a profitable event in New Leaf. It wasn’t worth continuing, especially since I’ve already collected all the items in the past.

According to Luna, my recent dream visitors include Jake from Florida and Cindie from Arrows. Thanks for stopping by, and Happy Halloween! 🎃

I’m a Ghost

Jack recently sent me a letter reminding me about Halloween coming up at the end of the month, and he sent me a ghost mask to get me started. I decided to put it on right away…even if that’s only because I had some bedhead and the salon was closed. 😛

Jeff puts on a ghost mask.

A message on the bulletin board said that the fishing tournament had concluded. However, no winner was named.

10/10/2021 The Fishing Tourney for this month has concluded. The next event will be held on November 20th, 2021! We hope to see you there!

That seems to indicate that the tourney was actually cancelled…and that goes against the spirit of Animal Crossing. Life in the game supposedly goes on whether you’re there or not.

On Sunday (October 17th), Agent S asked me to dig up her time capsule. So I did, and when she opened it, we discovered a foosball table inside. She gave it to me as my reward for helping out.

Agent S: For helping me out, you should get what I stuffed in there! Please take the foosball table.

There was a meteor shower underway tonight, so I wished on several shooting stars. This was my favorite picture, showing two shooting stars above my statue fountain.

Up on Main Street, Elise the ugly monkey was complaining about the crowds. But it was nighttime, and there wasn’t much of anyone around! Unless she was complaining about me being around. 😛

Elise: Argh, these crowds! You know, I do love shopping, jeff, but the lines and the competition get to me.

Back in town, Inkwell asked me for a piece of fruit. I gave him a perfect peach and he loved it.

Inkwell: Yummahumma!

He gave me an imperial tile in return. I looked all around to find Cube, but he’s another one of those villagers that seems to disappear. I even checked the entire the museum, and he wasn’t there. And then by 11:00, he was already asleep.

According to Luna, my recent dream visitors have been Ella from Starcat and Emanuel from TAvilage. Thanks for stopping by!
