Tonight, I held my final Friday Night Forest in New Leaf. (Online services are ending by April 8th, in case any of you aren’t aware.) I opened my gate at 10 p.m., and BranDex and Alex came over to visit. It didn’t take us long to start throwing beans everywhere. π
The beans are so fun in New Leaf, with the way they bounce quite high, splish splash in the water, and have that great sound effect. The beans in New Horizons were so disappointing. I joked that the next game should be called Animal Crossing: Better Beans.
After that, we headed to my house. BranDex merged with me in my emerald room!
Upstairs, we made frog puns in my frog room. πΈ
I blinded everyone with my excessively bright gold basement, and then we started visiting all of my villagers.
When we visited Molly’s house, we discovered that we all had Molly in our towns! She’s definitely one of the cutest villagers in the game.
At my statue fountain, I was disappointed that the beans didn’t splash in the water. I think it was Alex that called it fake water. π
We all got some coffee at the Roost, we visited Booker’s house, and we discussed what it would be like if special characters had homes in town that we could visit on certain nights of the week. Oh, and I got attacked with a toy hammer. π
At about 11:25, we got disconnected. BranDex returned, and we watched the Forest history at the town tree.
We continued our tour of chatting with villagers, and we also went into town hall for a bit. At about 11:40, Alex returned and we went up to dance at Club LOL.
Next, we headed over to the museum. In my trophy room, I asked them if they wanted any of my extra villager photos I had on display. They each picked a couple, but I couldn’t pick them up. So I had to end the session, then pick them up, and then reopen. π
I mentioned the Splatoon face-cutout standee, and BranDex fell for the old pitfall-behind-the-standee trick. π
By this time, it was after midnight (my time), so I asked if they had time to visit the island. Unfortunately, BranDex had to go. I was trying to get us to take a group photo first, but he was already on the way out. So Alex and I took a photo by my fountain, which might remind some long-time readers/viewers of my final online session in City Folk.
But we weren’t quite done yet. We wanted to head out to the island for a couple of tours. The boat ride out there felt sad (to me, at least), knowing this was likely my last boat ride during online play. But then Kapp’n farted, and everything was okay.
We started out with a shark-catching tour, and I outfished Alex for the win. π
Next, Alex picked the Elite Hammer Tour. Tortimer bluntly told us to smack the machine. π
I don’t normally do very good at these, but I feel like I was getting a lot of hits in.
And then…poof. We disconnected. I didn’t hear back from Alex. I reopened my gate for a bit, but he didn’t return…so I closed the gate. A bit anticlimactic, but it was a fun night. Thank you for coming, BranDex and Alex!
Even though New Leaf makes communicating a bit of a chore, it has some fun online features that I’ll miss. The multiplayer mini-games on Tortimer Island, the dancing at Club LOL, the toy hammer fights, and more. I hope these features return in the next Animal Crossing game.
In other recent events, I visited Chris’s beautiful ice town of Sutton earlier this week. If you haven’t seen my write-up yet, check out the full Dream Suite Adventure, with many more screenshots of this awesome town.
According to Luna, my recent dream visitors include Jake from Pan City, Tien Dat from Yoshiii, Brenna from Marigold, Jan from Jansburg, and Ruben from Bulworth. Thanks for stopping by!
A few other quick notes about recent campers:
- Leonardo de Tiger was camping in town on March 22nd.
- Cranston the ostrich camped here on Wednesday.
- Chow the panda bear camped here today.
Just a reminder that this blog will live on! I’ll still be playing New Leaf, and I’ll still post two blog entries every month. So I hope you’ll return for this, or for my other Animal Crossing content on JVGS and Youtube. Hope to see you soon! Never Stop Crossing! π
sad the online is gone for new leaf but at least I was the last american online on new leaf via Nintendo Network π₯
Hiya, Jeff! Brenna from Marigold here. Iβm happy I got to visit Forest before the shutdown. I always enjoy reading your blog so itβs cool to see my name in an entry, haha. Never stop crossing! π
Really hurts to see ACNL online go. I never experienced much of it because stupid COPPA blocked online play, but I have gone to my friends’ towns. I’ve gone to Club Tortimer countless times and had crazy experiences with hackers. You should really go back to Club Tortimer before the online ends. As of writing this, Nintendo Network is being killed in three days. Thank you for the memories, ACNL community. – pizzapizza72, previously “someone who likes pizza”
Hey Jeff, Jan from Jansburg here!
It was an honor to tour Forest before online services shut down. Kind of bummed that I just got into New Leaf lately (New Horizons was my first AC). One can only imagine how much fun the past 11 years must have been.
Anyways, love your content, please keep it up!
It is kinda sad to think that the online sessions are going to end. I cannot play online anymore on New Leaf, but I still have fond memories of those days.
Are you going to use the pretendo servers for acnl once they’re up?
No, I’m not going to hack my system or risk it in any way. And the only 3DS friends that came to my last FNF also play New Horizons, so I can see them there anyway.
It’s surprisingly easy to hack your system and really hard to mess it up. The 3DS software is built like a tank. So really, get Pretendo. It’s gonna be supporting ACNL in the future.
So here’s a question for you Jeff. Which AC game losing its online do you think stings the most for you? City Folk or New Leaf?
For me, it’s definitely City Folk. It was my first online AC game, and it was special to me. I had so many memories of late-night online sessions and everything. Not to mention, online play only lasted 5.5 years for ACCF, vs. almost eleven years for New Leaf. It was gone too soon.
This is really bittersweet but it’s good to see other mayors having fun before online service goes kaput βΊοΈ
Hi, Jeff!
Long time fan, and first-time commenter (at least it’s been a while since I commented LOL), but I wanted to say that you truly are one of the faces of the Animal Crossing community! Your long time commitment to the game is just admiring.
I must ask, do you get to play everyday and update the blog as you go? Or do you find yourself playing every couple days?
Thank you! π
I don’t play New Leaf daily any more, as I sometimes go a week or more without playing. But then I do typically play several days in a row, and then write an entry when there’s been enough going on to write about.
It’s really sad that they’re shutting the online servers. Hey Jeff, my gates are always open anytime, so you can come whenever you like. Also because I’m trying to get the master hostess badge, but i’m running out of time. By the way i’m holding a KK concert Saturday come tag, I’m always for visitors. no need to wait I time travel, (to change the time in ACNL talk to Isabelle and say set the time and select which you want to be on.)
Sorry, but I’m not looking to add anyone at this point. But thanks for the offer.
oh really? that’s a shame.
