Harvest Festival 2021

Today was Harvest Festival day, and I found Franklin the chef at the event plaza.

Franklin: After all, the big hubbub today is about celebrating the fall bounty. Today is the Harvest Festival!

He wanted to start the food preparation with a mixed salad. So he asked me to find a horse mackerel, a skinny mushroom, and an apple. Those were pretty easy to find, so he was able to whip up that salad pretty quickly.

Franklin: Let's get cooking!

He gave me a fruit basket to reward me for my help. Next up, he wanted to make some fruit soup. It was easy enough to find all the fruit in my town, but I did need some milk as well. So I had to help out villagers with their ingredient searches until one of them gave me some milk.

Molly: You'll trade with me? Thank you very much! Here. I can give you my milk in return.

I took the ingredients back to Franklin, and he made the soup. He then rewarded me with a harvest bed.

For the main course, Franklin wanted to make some pan-fried red snapper. This recipe required some flour, so I had to resort to helping villagers again. And helping villagers involves a lot of fishing. They all want specific items (mostly fish), and finding those fish can be a time-consuming process.

Before I could get the flour I needed, the clock struck 10:00 p.m., and the event ended. Franklin and I did not complete the meal, but at least we made two dishes.

The Harvest Festival has come to an end! You all made amazing dishes. Good job!

Inkwell summed up the event quite well. It’s a tedious process.

Inkwell: Searching for ingredients was a lot harder than I thought it would be!

Superhero Party?

When I visited Agent S last Thursday, I found that Big Top was also at her house. Agent S said it was like having a dance party. But to me, it seemed more like a superhero party with both of them there.

Agent S: Whoa! You're here too, dumpling? Woohoo! You plus Big Top equals...dance party!

Olivia the snooty cat was camping at the campsite. I already have her in my Wild World town, and one of her is enough. 😛

Olivia: You're from Forest, right?

I went to Katrina’s fortune-telling shop to check out her prices…and to get my fortune told. She charged me 500 bells to tell me that I need to wear western pants to improve my luck.

Katrina: Pink and blue alpacas... Oh my stars, what's this...? Still on their honeymoon, it seems...

I realized that her prices have increased in almost every game.

This is in sharp contrast to Brewster, who has always charged 200 bells for a cup of coffee.

Yesterday, Saharah was in town, and I paid her 3,000 bells for new carpet and wallpaper. She installed a lattice wall and a kiddie carpet; I had no interest in keeping them.

A lattice wall and kiddie carpet.

I was happy to find that the museum gift shop had a silver shovel for sale. I gladly paid the 500 bells to replace the shovel I lost on Halloween.

Celeste, after abruptly waking from a nap: Hrmmrmrmrm... Oh! Dear me!

Tonight, I ran into Boots near the Roost. He said he was exhausted from doing 10,000 squats today! That’s impressive! Compared to Boots, I haven’t done squat. 😛

Boots: I'm so tired today... The 10,000 squats I've done since this morning have really caught up with me.

Shortly after speaking with Boots, I ran into mittens! Well, actually just one mitten.

I picked up a lost item!

I asked around to see which of my villagers had dropped the lost item. Eventually, I returned the mitten to its owner, Lolly. She thanked me by giving me her mango.

Lolly: Thank you so much! Please take my mango as a token of my appreciation.

I hadn’t seen Cube around lately, and I was determined to say hello. So that meant I had to search the museum for him. Sure enough, I found him there…in the fossil room. He seemed a bit irritated that I haven’t spoken to him!

Cube: I don't like being ignored! If you see me around, say hi! After all, it's only polite.

It’s not my fault he’s almost never in town! He’s always hiding somewhere, usually in the museum. Maybe I should just stick him in an ice cube tray and leave him in the freezer, so it’ll be easier to find him. 😉 🧊

Halloween 2021

I played yesterday (October 30th), and Cube warned me to have enough candy for Halloween, or else I’ll be getting pranked.

Cube: It's finally Halloween tomorrow! You'd better get some candy together, or you might get pranked!

Even though the shop only sells one piece of candy a day, I decided to test my luck during the Halloween festivities tonight. The event works differently in New Leaf than it does in other games, at least when it comes to indoor villagers. We have to wear the specific mask that will scare each villager. If we choose correctly, they will give us candy.

Molly: WAAAAH! Please, scary ghost, take a piece of candy and go away!

I had notes for some of my villagers thanks to a previous blog entry. However, I didn’t have any notes for Boots, and I guessed wrong. That meant if I wanted candy from him, I had to play a game for it. Unfortunately, he chose the made-ya-look game. You have to guess which direction the villager will turn their head…and I guessed wrong.

Boots: Aw, you flunked the last round.
Boots: This means... Hooray! I won the game! In 1 bite!

He punished me, although I didn’t notice the problem immediately because my clothes didn’t change. But I did have some old flooring in my pockets that wasn’t there before. I later figured it out when I went to dig up a fossil: My shovel was gone! My silver shovel got turned into old flooring!

For some reason, I was thinking tools were safe…and the gold ones are safe. But I had been using the silver shovel, so I’ll have to check out the museum gift shop to replace it. Oops.

When I visited Cube, I also guessed his fear wrong…

Cube: A huh huh huh! I know you're trying to scare me, but your getup is just cracking me up!

But fortunately, he wanted to play charades. That mini-game is pretty easy to win, since it’s not just random chance.

Outside, the villagers dressed up as Jack are pretty easy to avoid (unlike on GameCube). But they do still try to chase you if you get too close to them.

Two villagers wearing pumpkins try to chase me down.

Overall, the event went pretty well. I got some lollipops from villagers and gave them to Jack for creepy furniture.

Jack: Sooo sweeet!

I played long enough to acquire four of the creepy items: Jack gave me two creepy statues, a creepy coffin, and a creepy bat stone. I sold them all for a total of…2,600 bells? Wait, that’s it? This is not a profitable event in New Leaf. It wasn’t worth continuing, especially since I’ve already collected all the items in the past.
