Bug-Off & Silver Can

Today was the day of the Bug-Off competition. Because of that fact, Brewster wouldn’t let me work at the Roost today. But outside of the cafe, I saw Rolf walk up to a bug on a tree with his net drawn. He actually stood there in this position for several seconds without moving.

Rolf with his net pulled back, ready to catch a bug.To my surprise, he eventually did swing the net. He missed the bug of course, but it was nice to see the attempt.

Nearby, I saw Phineas! He brought me my tenth badge, the Good Host badge for having lots of visitors to my town.

I got the Good Host badge! I want my town to make people want to come visit! My town tree told me that I’ve had 54 visitors so far, so apparently it takes 50 to get the Good Host badge. Interestingly enough, beating all of your visitors with a toy hammer doesn’t hurt your chances of being considered a good host. 😉

After that, I decided to try catching some bugs for the Bug-Off. I caught a Miyamoto miyama stag, which gave me the lead with Nintendo 64 points. Nat took it and gave me a wooden box as a reward.

Nat: For your prize, let's see now... I'll give you this rather smashing wooden box in return! As I continued my walk around town, I saw my first Jacob’s ladder! It was next to my pyramid.

My first Jacob's ladder, near my pyramid.I took my daily fossils up to Blathers, and for once, I had a new one! It completed the archelon.

Blathers: Hoo hoo! This mean...! Yes, oh my! The Archelon is at last complete!I looked around saw that I only need two more fossils to complete my collection.

In the garden shop part of T.I.Y., I bought some flower seeds (as I usually do), and Leif told me I get a happy bonus today!

Hold up, Jeff. Your purchase today comes with a happy bonus! It’s a silver watering can! It can water five squares at once. This will definitely come in handy.

Leif: It's a silver can! You can use it to water many plants at once.

After that, I resumed my bug hunt. I caught a jewel beetle and took it to Nat. It was good for 80 points, which broke my own record. He rewarded me with a butterfly wall. Unfortunately, it’s pretty ugly. I couldn’t bear to open my eyes to look at it.

The butterfly wall I got from Nat during the Bug-Off.I also caught a cyclommatus stag, but I didn’t want to give it to Nat unless I had to. So I waited until 5:59, and saw that my jewel beetle still was the record-holder. So I hung on to my cyclommatus stag, and went into Nat’s tent for the awards ceremony. Yay, first place!

Standing atop the Bug-Off winners podium at the ceremony. Tex got 2nd place and Molly got 3rd place. After that, I decided to visit Club Tortimer. The first island I visited had nobody there but me. So I went back and tried again; this time, there was someone named Jo from the U.K.  We caught some bugs and fish, and did some diving. But after 15 minutes or so, I had to go, so I said goodbye.

Jo: Nice meeting ya.That’s all for today, but I’ll be back tomorrow with some Wi-Fi fun. Remember, I’ll be opening my gate at 7:00 p.m. London time. I hope some of the Europeans on my roster are able to make it.

Perfect Town Status

Today, Tabby invited me over to her house. Eww! No way!

Tabby: You won't come over, Jeff? Well, maybe another time then.I worked a shift at the cafe and earned some superb coffee beans. Brewster also gave me a third gyroid, the mini brewstoid. In this picture, it’s the small one on the right.

My new mini brewstoid (right). And as I made my way around town, I reached the northeast corner of town, where I usually backtrack to get to my bridge. And then I saw it. Yes, my brick bridge is done!

My brick bridge PWP is complete! This provides a nice shortcut and it’s quite helpful. And soon after crossing, I saw Katt, who asked me for an ocean fish. I was glad to help! No, really! I caught a wonderful ocean fish just for her!

Katt: Oh! A sea bass? You caught this for me?
Yes, Katt. You deserve it.

A bit later, Rory was showing off his outfit to me. It was designed by Someone from Anytown. Oooh, fancy stuff, Rory. My clothes aren’t as fabulous; they’re made by Shopper from Kmart.

Rory: I hear that Someone from Anytown designed these clothes!Tabby approached me, so I had to talk to her. (Eventually, she’s going to have to move out, right? Right?!) Unfortunately, that discussion didn’t happen today. But she did suggest a new town project: an illuminated heart. Wendy has an illuminated heart (you can see an animated pic on my July 7th blog entry), and it’s pretty cool. But still, it’s not a project I’m planning to install. Besides, Tabby would think I put it up just for her, and that could be all kinds of awkward.

Tabby: Don't you think Forest would be five million times better with an illuminated heart?I then went into town hall to trigger the completion ceremony for the brick bridge. Even though you have the option not to attend the ceremonies, they’re quick and fun, and I haven’t turned one down yet.

Party poppers go off at the completion ceremony for the brick bridge PWP.I then returned back to town hall to check my town status. Wait, what is this? Can it be? Forest has achieved perfect town status?!

Isabelle: Great galloping grasshoppers! Were I to give this town a rating, I'd say that it's exemplary, old bean!Woohoo!

Isabelle, telling me I've achieved perfect town status: Mayor Jeff! You've finally done it! Everybody loves Forest!Isabelle said that nobody wants to move out of a perfect town, which is a scary thought. I don’t want to be stuck with Tabby, Katt, Rory, and Tex forever! But I’m sure it’s just hyperbole; at least I hope so. Otherwise, I’d have to start trashing my town! 😛

Isabelle also announced that I can remodel town hall, or I can have a new flower clock built! It’s a perk of having a perfect town. Awesome!

Isabelle: They'd like to remodel the town hall and also build a new flower clock! And now that I have a third bridge, this is my current town map:

My updated town map that includes my third bridge. After that, I made my way up to Main Street. T.I.Y. had a cool stained glass for sale. I bought it.

Timmy: Ah, some stained glass! A fine item, yes?I put it in my house, but it doesn’t look real great if you put it over an existing window. Part of the old window is still visible, so it may look best on an empty wall (even though you won’t get sun shining through it that way).

My stained glass window on display in my house. After that, I saved my game. But I started the game up again at 10:00 for Friday Night Forest. Dash, Daisy, and Wendy came over to visit.

Jeff, Wendy, Dash, and Daisy outside the Forest train station. We did some dancing at Club LOL and then went to my house. Wendy gave me a free harp, no strings attached.

Playing with the harp that Wendy gave me.And we spun my colorful wheel, with each of us saying the number it landed on. Clearly, everyone sees something different.

All of us saw different numbers on the colorful wheel. Jeff: 9. Wendy: 4. Daisy: 7. Dash: 2.Everyone had nice custom outfits except me.

Everyone's nice, custom outfits...and then there was me.After we were done in my house, we went to the island.

The four of us on the dock, ready to go out to the island. After catching some fish and bugs, we went on a tour (to save our game). We did the firefly tour, which I don’t recall playing before.

Jeff, Dash, and Wendy, in unison: Yay! A firefly!Wendy won that tour, but we also did a hammer tour, which I won. We did another round of catching fish and bugs before returning to Forest. Dash left once we returned. Nick ended up coming in to take his spot. But Nick didn’t stick around too long. After he left, Wendy reminded me to try this glitch to get on the train tracks. We had a lot of trouble, but we eventually got Wendy up onto the tracks.

Daisy and I, on the private beach, look up at Wendy, who is on the bridge above us.Daisy and I were taking turns, trying to get either of us onto the tracks also, but we weren’t having any luck. But then Joey came in. With his help, he was able to get me onto the train tracks as well!

Me and Wendy standing on the bridge.Joey left, and I ended the party shortly after 1:00. I had a fun night, and I got a lot done today too–namely achieving perfect town status. Good day.

One other note. Some of the Europeans on my friend roster have been asking for an earlier open time so that they can come to visit. So this Sunday, I’ll be opening my gate at 2 p.m. Eastern U.S. time, which is 7 p.m. London time. I can’t limit it to only Europeans of course, but at least now you’ll have a fighting chance to get into Forest without staying up to 3 a.m.

Fishing for Projects

Today, I moved my mannequin upstairs and I noticed that you can’t switch clothes with it when it’s not wearing any. 😛

The mannequin isn't wearing enough clothing right now, so you can't change outfits with it!It was a beautiful day outside, and Benedict suggested a new town project: a caution sign!

Benedict: A caution sign! If you agreed to it, we could put one right here! Uh-hoo!I admit, it would be funny to put it outside of Tabby’s house or Katt’s house. But I’m hoping those two animals don’t stick around my town very long, so it would probably end up being a waste of 43,500 bells.

Caution sign PWP: 43,500 bells.I went to work at the cafe, and for the first time, I got everyone’s order completely perfect!

DJ KK: Thanks. That's some fine voodoo that you brew.Unfortunately, nothing special happens if you get all four customers’ orders perfect. You still get the superb coffee beans of course, but you don’t have to be perfect to get that.

Back outside, I spotted Saharah. So I paid her the 3,000 bells to give my house a makeover.

Saharah: Inspiration! It burns the hooves like desert sand. Embrace it!But I went inside, and I was not impressed. She used a modern wood wall and a sandlot for the floor.

A modern wood wall and a sandlot that Saharah installed in my house.Even though I like the modern wood furniture, I think the wallpaper is ugly. I would grow board of it very quickly.

With over 200,000 bells in my pocket and a town that is still “underdeveloped,” I figured it was time to put in another town project. I decided to get a third bridge, but it was a tough decision between the modern bridge and the brick bridge. Ultimately, I went with the brick bridge, and I’m putting it right at the top of my waterfall. Oh, and I made Lloid walk the plank.

Jeff, to Lloid: WALK THE PLANK!I had most of the money for it, but I still needed about 20,000 bells more. So I did some fishing, both in town and on the island. I caught three new fish I needed for the museum: a nibble fish, a gar, and this ray:

I caught a ray! That made my day! When I was done fishing, I had earned more than enough money to finish paying off the bridge. It will be complete tomorrow.

Isabelle: We've met our collection goal for the brick bridge project! It should be complete tomorrow!
