Back Room

When I started up the game today, I got a letter from Molly. She thanked me for having her over to visit yesterday. She also sent me a cabin table; apparently she thought my house needed some regular furniture. Hmmph.

I didn’t have any interest in the table, but I did go inside my house to see the new expansion. I have a back room now, although I couldn’t quite reach it at first.

Furniture blocked the entrance to my back room. After rearranging my furniture a bit, I went into the back room. I wasn’t expecting a big cake and unlimited juice, but I was hoping for more than this…

My small, empty back room.Ugh! Four squares by four squares! Again! For the prices Tom Nook charges, he should give you bigger rooms! You definitely get less for your money from Tom Nook in New Leaf. But still, it is nice that the room is an option…’cause at least now I have it.

When I went back outside, Yuka made my day. She reminded me that she’s leaving in two days!

Yuka: Thanks, Jeff! Let's just have fun over these last few days and not worry about the future. So I thought I should do something nice for her. You know, as a going-away present.

Yuka, in a pitfall: Ahhh! Somebody help me!She never appreciates the little things.

Yuka: That's it. I've had it!In case you’re wondering what I’m wearing on my head here, it’s a DJ cap.

Yesterday, in the comment section, Ian told me that the LED display I bought can be customized! So I took it to Re-Tail today to see if Cyrus could help me out with that.

Cyrus: All right, fine! This time, make some decisions, OK? I've got a lot of very important naps to get to!I was going through the options to see what I could have done. But Cyrus has no patience at all. He’s more unlikable than Phyllis.

Cyrus: What! Pshaw! Fine! You can have the outside modified with a pattern or fabric, or you can have the screen modified. Unfortunately, you can’t customize it with a text message. But you can change the scrolling stars into hearts or leaves instead. I went for the latter. But his projects take half an hour to complete, so I went up to Main Street to kill some time. Today, the museum gift shop had a silver fishing rod!

Celeste: That is a silver rod!Celeste told me it’s available because I’ve donated 30 fish to the museum. Next, I headed over to Club LOL. Shrunk taught me the shyness emotion.

Shrunk: I was standing there squirming, and she looked at me and said, "I'm sorry, who are you?"I finished up my shopping run, and after enough time had passed,  I returned to Re-Tail. My LED display was done. Even though it’s not a text message that scrolls, I must admit the scrolling leaves look pretty good. I’m not sure why he uses Nook’s logo though…aren’t the Nooklings in direct competition with Re-Tail?

The LED display customized to show Nook logo leaves.I then took a break from playing. But Saturday is traditional K.K. night, so I started the game back up after 8:00 to get a new song. I got to Club LOL and saw Yuka was in there! Whyyyyyyy?

Yuka: Do you have a favorite K.K. Slider song, Jeff? I think mine is K.K. Country. You country music loving animal, you. I wasn’t about to request that song for her; I just told K.K. that I was in a good mood and I let him pick the song. He ended up playing Bubblegum K.K.

Credits start to roll as K.K. Slider performs for me.It was okay. Until I got home and saw the album cover. Francine?!

The CD album cover for Bubblegum K.K.I never thought I’d see the day that “Frankengaga” was on an album cover! She and Chrissy are rabbit impersonators! They’re humans wearing bunny suits! Maybe the fake ears can trick K.K., but they don’t fool me!

That’s all I have for you tonight. I know many of you will have the game tomorrow (or later tonight), so I hope you all have a good time with the game. And remember to use my New Leaf Face Guide!

Check back tomorrow night for more! I will be opening my gate tomorrow, so that blog entry will include my impressions of online play. It should be good! So come back and check it out if you ever take a break from playing the game yourself! Have a great weekend, everyone!

I Just Want to Bang on the Drum All Day

As expected, I got a letter from Gulliver in the mail today. He was in France, and he sent me a model of the Eiffel Tower. I’ll include a picture later on in this blog entry.

As I started my walk around town, I saw one of my favorite villagers, Big Top. He was talking about how much he loves peaches. In fact, he couldn’t stop drooling, just thinking about them.

Big Top: I love them so much, I'm drooling just thinking about them! Actually, all this drooling is getting gross. He asked me to find one for him. Since peaches are my town fruit, that was an easy thing to do.

Big Top: Will you get me a peach so I don't flood the town with my drool?I took one to him and he thanked me by giving me a lovely love seat. How lovely.

I then spotted Katrina’s tent, so I went inside to have my fortune told. Katrina was talking about the fall harvest festival, and said that blue gym shorts were the key to good fortune upon health.

Katrina, telling me my lucky item: Blue gym shorts...I have no idea what that means, aside from the fact that I’m supposed to wear blue gym shorts. How could it possibly be related to the harvest festival, which is more than five months away? I’m so confused. Well, I didn’t have any blue gym shorts regardless, so it’s a moot point.

After leaving the tent, I saw my newest villager, Molly. She asked to come to my house. Sure thing, ducky.

Molly: I know this is sudden, but would you mind if I came over to your house for a visit? Right now?So we went to my house, and she seemed to enjoy it. Don’t be fooled by the following picture, it’s not the mystic statue talking to me.

Molly, standing behind a mystic statue: My, my! What a great vibe you've got here! Your whole place is just filled with personality. She then asked about the rest of my house, so I took her upstairs. My upstairs room is small and doesn’t have much in it. She wasn’t a fan of this room.

Molly: ...Hmm? I thought something felt off. You're missing all the basic furniture. After going back downstairs, she said it was time for her to go. She didn’t stick around as long as Aurora did the last time I had a visitor over.

Anyway, I went back outside and found my money rock and four fossils. So it was time for my daily trip to Main Street. In Club LOL, Shrunk taught me the sorrow (crying) emotion.

Shrunk, teaching me the sorrow emotion: WAAAAAAAAH!And after collecting my 5,000 bells for updating my dream town, I had enough money to finish off my house payment! And this time, I actually had a choice. I could get more space (which would presumably make my upstairs bigger) or I could add another room. I opted for a new room.

But then I had another choice to make: I could add a room to the left of my main room, to the right, to the back, or I could add a basement. At first, I was going to add a basement, but I saw it would cost 428,000 bells…ouch. So I backed out to see how much a back room would cost: 348,000 bells. That’s a little better, so I went with that.

Tom Nook: Your loan will come to a total of 348,000 bells. This is perfectly acceptable, yes?In Super T&T, there was an LED display available. The stars would scroll across the screen and it looked pretty cool, so I bought it.

Timmy: Ah, an LED display! A fine item, yes?And in the museum, I thought of a good use for my exhibit room: Gulliver items! Even though I still have my balloon furniture in there too (for now), I think a collection of Gulliver’s items from around the world would be perfect for a museum exhibit!

My museum exhibit of Gulliver items from around the world.I actually had to re-order my tribal mask from my catalog since I sold my original, but that’s okay. After that, I headed back to town.

I found a lost item on the ground, so I had to go around asking everyone if it belonged to them. To be honest, this part of the game is a bit annoying. After asking almost everyone, I finally found out it belonged to Katt. As thanks, she gave me a bucket. I was overflowing with joy.

Katt: Take my bucket as thanks! But while I was in Katt’s house, I noticed she had a drum set. So I banged on her drums for a while. Musical instruments are a bit different in New Leaf; they don’t play the whole town tune like they did in previous games. They just play one note. So you have to keep mashing on the A button if you want to make some noise music.

But an interesting thing happened after I was done playing her drums: She started applauding me! That was pretty cool, and I really like the fact that New Leaf has details like this.

Katt applauds me after I bang on her drums. My last stop of the day was a return home. I put up the LED display in my house. I was hoping there was a way to customize a message that could scroll across, but apparently there isn’t. A bit disappointing, but it still looks pretty cool.

My LED display shows some stars.

I know a lot of you will be getting the game this weekend, so I hope you have a great time with it! And remember to check out my face guide to get you started with a face that you like! I’ll see you all tomorrow with another update!

Cliff Diving

It was getting close to 8:00 p.m. when I first started up the game, so I quickly made my way to Club LOL so I could get a new emotion. I gave Shrunk a peach and he taught me the flourish emotion. It’s where you fabulously spin around. And that’s no fallacy.

Shrunk: That was SPINteresting!I then returned to town where I got some good news from Yuka…she’s moving out!

Yuka: Well, what I'm trying to say is that I'm moving away from Forest on the 10th of this month.I only have a few more days left with her! And for those of you who like me having a hated rival in town, don’t worry, I still have Katt.

Yuka: Oh, good... I hoped you wouldn't be too bothered about my moving, Jeff.I then decided to do something new…cliff diving! Once you have your wet suit, you can jump off the cliff into the ocean (at least at the part where there’s not a beach underneath). Wheeee!

Cliff diving, part 1: Me about to jump off the cliff.Cliff diving, part 2: Me in the process of jumping off the cliff.Cliff diving, part 3: Me splashing into the ocean after jumping off a cliff.Cliff diving is so fun! I also noticed that while you’re wearing a wet suit, pressing the A button makes you swim. Even if you’re on land! Your character still does the animation, and it’s pretty funny!

Trying to swim on land. But while I was on the beach, I spotted Gulliver. I woke him up and he gave me his clues, and once again, they were very easy.

Gulliver: It has the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre... Art's just comin' out their noses! But he got a little carried away…

Gulliver: ...France! Je t'aime! I love you! That's exactly the place! France! The feeling’s not mutual, sailor man. But I think I’ll be getting an Eiffel tower from him in the mail tomorrow. As I went back up the ramp, I bumped into Big Top. He wanted to trade his big dot shirt for my cityscape wall. No way! Then he called me weird for not wanting to trade! Rude.

Big Top: What?! How can you not want something as cool as this? You're kind of weird, J dog. After making my rounds and digging up four fossils, I headed back up to Main Street. The museum gift shop had a silver net for sale! Celeste said it’s available because I’ve caught 30 types of bugs so far.

Celeste: That is a silver net! After buying it, I did the rest of my shopping for the day. And I decided to see what would happen if you checked for DLC even if you’ve already received it.

Pelly: Nice try, mister. You've already received the current downloadable item!Great. Now Pelly thinks I’m a greedy criminal or something.

Anyway, I paid off more of my house payment and I only owe about 20,000 bells on it now. I’ll probably pay off the rest of it tomorrow. I then put my regular net up for sale at Re-Tail and then I wrapped up my night in Forest. I will be back tomorrow with another update, so I hope to see you all then!
