Gem Jackpot

Aurora was back outside today, after finally getting over her cold. It’s good to see her feeling better. She thanked me for giving her medicine and she gave me a bear pole.

Aurora: Remember? You helped me fight off a nasty cold. As you can see, I'm completely over it now!Since I bought the silver shovel from the museum gift shop the other day, I decided to put my regular shovel for sale at Re-Tail. I’ll be opening my New Leaf gate on Sunday around 8pm Eastern U.S. time, and I figured there’s a good chance at least one of my visitors won’t have a shovel yet. So one of them will be able to make use of it, I’m sure.

Reese: If it sells, I'll put the money straight into your savings account. I hope we can find your item a new home!I recently bought an axe, but I hadn’t used it yet. So I cut down a tree today to try it out. It works. 😛

The stump left behind after I cut down my first tree.I also tested out the ability to sit on the tree stump.

Me sitting on a tree stump. That also worked, although I did get some splinters in my butt. Just kidding.

While using the silver shovel, I found today’s money rock. But this was no ordinary money rock! Instead of coins and money bags, it kept spitting out precious gems!

The gems I got from today's money rock!In all, it gave me three amethysts, a sapphire, a ruby, an emerald, a silver nugget, and a gold nugget. Jackpot! Or so I thought. When I sold them, the total came to 19,000 bells. Now that is more than the usual amount of money I get from money rocks (16,100 bells), but it’s not a huge difference.

While I was still walking around with my shovel, Fuchsia asked me what I was looking for. Being the sarcastic mayor that I am, I chose the option “holes.” She didn’t see the humor in my response.

Fuchsia: What? Holes?! But...if you have a shovel, aren't those potentially everywhere? Like...everywhere?!A bit later, I saw Tex. He asked me for a new catchphrase to replace his current one, “picante.”  I know he’s a penguin, but with a name like Tex, he just has to start calling people “cowboy.”

Tex: This catchphrase is going to be the talk of the town, cowboy. And before I was done playing, I ran into Yuka. She put on a dazzling display of her supreme intelligence.

Yuka: I can't believe I had to put on sunscreen today. Wait, I wear sunscreen every day. Ignore me.That’s the end of today’s blog entry, but I have a couple videos for you. The first one is a slideshow I made of many of my pictures taken in my first month with the game:

And also, Nintendo just put out an Animal Crossing New Leaf launch trailer. It shows a lot of the new features of the game, so check it out too!

Kicks the Shoe Shop

A few days ago, I planted a mango from the island next to my house. When I started up the game today, I noticed that the mango tree is now full-grown and bearing fruit.

My fully grown mango tree next to my house. When I talked  to Rory, he asked me to bury a time capsule for him.

Rory: Hey, J dog! Go bury my time capsule for me!I buried it in the northwest corner of town, just one spot to the right of where I buried Big Top’s time capsule early on in the game. I don’t know the details of when these will be unearthed, but I hope the presence of Rory’s time capsule doesn’t mean he’s going to be stuck in Forest for a long time.

After stopping at town hall, I attended the (delayed) celebration for the second floor of the museum. And when I say delayed, it was only delayed because I didn’t stop in town hall yesterday (even though I could have).

Celeste joins in the celebration at the completion ceremony for the second floor of the museum.I got my solemn painting in the mail from Crazy Redd, so I took it to the museum. My gamble yesterday paid off! It’s a real painting! So I went in to see it; the museum provides some details about the paintings now, such as the title, artist, year, and so on.

Solemn painting info: The painting is also known as The Maids of Honor. This is Velazquez's most famous painting. While I was in the museum, I decided to go on and “rent” an exhibit room. For now, I think I’ll just put my balloon furniture in it.

Two pieces of balloon furniture in a museum exhibit room.Next, I stopped in Club LOL. Shrunk taught me the anger emotion. That’s another good one to have.

Shrunk: Wanna know why? I just bought a fortune cookie. When I cracked it open, there was NO fortune inside! In Super T&T, I decided to take a look at the catalog. This month’s DLC, the rainbow screen, is indeed available to be ordered.

Rainbow screen DLC: 4,240 bells.Even though DLC could also be ordered in City Folk, it’s good to know that it works the same way in New Leaf as well. But as I browsed through the catalog, I spotted some other good news. For one thing, items are now listed alphabetically! Even though it should be a no-brainer, previous games didn’t do it this way, and it was hard to find a certain item if you didn’t know where it was listed. I’m glad they finally got it right.

But that’s not the only improvement. There’s now a search feature! So if you search for the word “cheese,” for example, it will list any item that has the word cheese in it: Cheese floor, cheese wallpaper, etc.  Very helpful.

Once I was done in the supermarket, I headed to the far end of Main Street. The construction is gone, and Kicks is now complete!

The outside of the Kicks shoe shop, which just opened! The inside of Kicks' shoe shop.Kicks, the shoe shop, is ran by Kicks, the skunk.

Kicks: ...CRIKEY! It's the mayor! Here! In my shop! Welcome, sir!He sells shoes and socks in his store. I became his first customer by buying these cleats.

Wearing the new cleats I just bought from Kicks. After that, I took some medicine to Aurora, who is still sick. She flipped for it.

Aurora flips as she takes her medicine. And last but not least, I went to visit my newest neighbor, Molly the duck!

Molly: Jeff! Just like I promised, I've left my old town behind for the happy town of Forest. She lives a bit south of my house, but still in the northwest part of town…along with me, Aurora, and Big Top. Definitely the cool part of town. Forest is slowly improving in terms of villagers. I still would like to get rid of Yuka, Katt, and Rory, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.

That’s all for tonight, but thank you for reading my blog. Are you all getting excited for the game? Just a few more days to go!

Second Floor of the Museum

In Forest today, I saw that Molly’s house is about to be built. I suspect she’ll be moving in tomorrow.

Sign: This spot reserved for Molly's new home. -Nook's HomesAnd at Club LOL, Shrunk taught me the happiness emotion.

Shrunk: I'd like to discuss a very serious topic... Happiness! One good thing about the emotions is that you’re able to rearrange the icons in your list. So you’ll be able to move your favorites to the top of the list. I have some good ones so far, but I really need laughter. That one is crucial for online play.

Later on, I ran into Yuka. She was talking about coleslaw, and how she feels nostalgic about certain foods.

Yuka: You know, every time I eat coleslaw, I think of my childhood.Yuka: That's so good to hear! I worry about kids who eat nothing but frozen dinners.I also spotted Crazy Redd’s tent again! He sure seems to visit pretty often! Why can’t I see Saharah this often? I haven’t even seen her since I got my house!

Anyway, Redd had three paintings and one statue.  The statue was the beautiful statue I already had in my museum. I had a feeling it might have been the legitimate art piece once again, but I still had to take a chance on one of the paintings, just in case. I really had no clue this time, so I just have to hope for some random luck.

Redd: Whoa! I see you've got eyes only for that solemn painting there! I'd say it has eyes for you too! After that, I searched around town to find my fossils and the money rock. Once I did, I went up to the museum. The second floor is now complete and I got to meet Celeste.

Celeste: Welcome to Forest's personal-exhibit and gift-shop floor! She was telling me that the personal exhibit rooms can be decorated just as you would decorate your own house.

Celested: You can decorate the rooms in the same way you would decorate your very own home.I really have no idea what I would do with one. It sounds like it’s just like having an extra room, although it would be like a home-away-from-home. And there’s a rental fee of 10,000 bells, although she didn’t mention how long I get to keep the room. So I didn’t hand over the money just yet. Maybe if knew what to put in there…

Celeste: The rental fee for a personal exhibit space is 10,000 bells. Is that OK?Also, the second floor has a gift shop. I bought myself a silver shovel!

Celeste: That is a silver shovel!I then left the museum and headed over to the other shops on Main Street.  Super T&T didn’t have much I wanted, other than the fortune cookies. One of them gave me another Midna’s Mask. So I checked out the Able Sisters, and they had an unusual pair of glasses for sale.

Labelle: The funny glasses? That's not a bad choice.Funny glasses? They might be funny when they’re just sitting there… but once they’re on my face, they’re nothing short of terrifying!

Trying on the funny glasses. And with that, I wrapped up my night in Forest. Check back tomorrow for more!
