Final FNF

Tonight, I held my final Friday Night Forest in New Leaf. (Online services are ending by April 8th, in case any of you aren’t aware.) I opened my gate at 10 p.m., and BranDex and Alex came over to visit. It didn’t take us long to start throwing beans everywhere. 😛

Throwing beans everywhere in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

The beans are so fun in New Leaf, with the way they bounce quite high, splish splash in the water, and have that great sound effect. The beans in New Horizons were so disappointing. I joked that the next game should be called Animal Crossing: Better Beans.

After that, we headed to my house. BranDex merged with me in my emerald room!

BranDex and Jeff merged.

Upstairs, we made frog puns in my frog room. 🐸

Jeff: Serve us french flies please. (Hop to it!)

I blinded everyone with my excessively bright gold basement, and then we started visiting all of my villagers.

Jeff, looking at a rock places at the bottom of an elephant slide: Bad place for a rock.

When we visited Molly’s house, we discovered that we all had Molly in our towns! She’s definitely one of the cutest villagers in the game.

Alex, in Molly's house: All of us have her!

At my statue fountain, I was disappointed that the beans didn’t splash in the water. I think it was Alex that called it fake water. 😆

Jeff: No sploosh.

We all got some coffee at the Roost, we visited Booker’s house, and we discussed what it would be like if special characters had homes in town that we could visit on certain nights of the week. Oh, and I got attacked with a toy hammer. 😉

Jeff, getting hit in the head with a hammer and beans: Look! I dug up a fossil!

At about 11:25, we got disconnected. BranDex returned, and we watched the Forest history at the town tree.

June 3rd, 2013: Grand opening of Museum 2F. June 4th, 2013: Molly moved to town. June 4th, 2013: Grand opening of Kicks.

We continued our tour of chatting with villagers, and we also went into town hall for a bit. At about 11:40, Alex returned and we went up to dance at Club LOL.

Dancing at Club LOL.

Next, we headed over to the museum. In my trophy room, I asked them if they wanted any of my extra villager photos I had on display. They each picked a couple, but I couldn’t pick them up. So I had to end the session, then pick them up, and then reopen. 😆

I mentioned the Splatoon face-cutout standee, and BranDex fell for the old pitfall-behind-the-standee trick. 😉

BranDex fell into the pitfall behind the standee.

By this time, it was after midnight (my time), so I asked if they had time to visit the island. Unfortunately, BranDex had to go. I was trying to get us to take a group photo first, but he was already on the way out. So Alex and I took a photo by my fountain, which might remind some long-time readers/viewers of my final online session in City Folk.

Jeff and Alex at the fountain in Forest.

But we weren’t quite done yet. We wanted to head out to the island for a couple of tours. The boat ride out there felt sad (to me, at least), knowing this was likely my last boat ride during online play. But then Kapp’n farted, and everything was okay.

Kapp'n, after farting: One time, I... Oh, uh... We seem to have caught a bit o' a tailwind...

We started out with a shark-catching tour, and I outfished Alex for the win. 😛

Tortimer: Jeff gets 4 medals, and Alex gets 1 medal!

Next, Alex picked the Elite Hammer Tour. Tortimer bluntly told us to smack the machine. 😛

Tortimer: You have 3 minutes to smack this machine around as much as possible.

I don’t normally do very good at these, but I feel like I was getting a lot of hits in.

And then…poof. We disconnected. I didn’t hear back from Alex. I reopened my gate for a bit, but he didn’t return…so I closed the gate. A bit anticlimactic, but it was a fun night. Thank you for coming, BranDex and Alex!

Even though New Leaf makes communicating a bit of a chore, it has some fun online features that I’ll miss. The multiplayer mini-games on Tortimer Island, the dancing at Club LOL, the toy hammer fights, and more. I hope these features return in the next Animal Crossing game.

In other recent events, I visited Chris’s beautiful ice town of Sutton earlier this week. If you haven’t seen my write-up yet, check out the full Dream Suite Adventure, with many more screenshots of this awesome town.

According to Luna, my recent dream visitors include Jake from Pan City, Tien Dat from Yoshiii, Brenna from Marigold, Jan from Jansburg, and Ruben from Bulworth. Thanks for stopping by!

A few other quick notes about recent campers:

  • Leonardo de Tiger was camping in town on March 22nd.
  • Cranston the ostrich camped here on Wednesday.
  • Chow the panda bear camped here today.

Just a reminder that this blog will live on! I’ll still be playing New Leaf, and I’ll still post two blog entries every month. So I hope you’ll return for this, or for my other Animal Crossing content on JVGS and Youtube. Hope to see you soon! Never Stop Crossing! 🙂

Shamrock Day 2024

On Friday (March 15th), Mira asked me to bury a time capsule for her. I buried it in the northwest part of town, as usual.

Mira: So...will you bury this time capsule for me? I've written down my life's goals in a letter to my future self.

Today is St. Patrick’s Day, known as Shamrock Day in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Isabelle was standing at the event plaza, wearing green for the occasion.

Isabelle: What do you think of my outfit? Since today is Shamrock Day, I just thought I'd wear something green!

She gave me a shamrock hat, and I put it on (along with my club tee).

Wearing my club tee and shamrock hat for Shamrock Day (St. Patrick's Day).

I also stuck my face in the face-cutout standee. 😛 Happy Shamrock day, everyone! 🍀

All of my villagers commented on the hat I was wearing, and Rolf almost thought I was a leprechaun. 😉

Rolf: If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were a genuine leprechaun, or at least stole one's hat!

Inkwell said that it seems like everything is green today, even the bread he ate this morning. Actually, that doesn’t sound very appetizing.

Inkwell: Even the bread I ate this morning was green!

I found a lost item (a book) on the ground, and I returned it to Inkwell. He rewarded me with just a blue plaid tee.

Inkwell: Oh! You found my copy of Pecs and Quads of the Rich and Famous!

As for my final Friday Night Forest, I’ve decided it’s going to be on March 29th at 10 p.m. Eastern time. It’ll be open to anyone on my New Leaf friend roster. If town fills up, I might close and reopen the gate every half hour or so, to give anyone else that’s trying to get in a chance. I’m not sure it’ll fill up, though. But it’ll be nice to have one last party.

According to Luna, Teren from DalyCity was my most recent dream visitor. Thanks for stopping by!

The One That Got Away

As of yesterday, the snow has all melted and spring is here (unofficially). I promptly went to Able Sisters to change my path from the blue icy bricks back to my usual green bricks.

Green grass and green bricks mark their return.

When I ran into Rolf, he reminded me that I didn’t get the petition signatures in time. (Thanks.) So he told me to go ahead and throw away the paper.

Rolf: I don't need the signature sheet anymore, so you can throw it away!

Cube was apparently enjoying the rain, because he said he wanted to splash me!

Cube: I totally want to splash you. You're cool with that, right, muscles?

Mira asked me for an apple, so I went out and picked one for her. She loved it!

Mira: This is such a good apple! I can't stop yelling!

She rewarded me with a bucket from her bucket stash. 🪣

Mira: Heh heh... This is from my secret bucket stash. You earned it, dude!

Inkwell asked me for some furniture, and I briefly considered giving him the bucket. But I decided I should try to find something a bit nicer than a bucket for him. 😆 So I bought a swinging bench from Harv at the campground.

Harvey: Ah! So you're interested in my swinging bench...

I took it over to Inkwell, and he loved it so much that he gave me his picture! After three and a half years, I finally earned it!

Inkwell: This Inkwell's pic ought to work for you, muscles! Thanks a bunch for your help!

I took it home and put it on display. His favorite quote is “There’s a sucker born every minute.”

Inkwell's pic in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

With that finally done, I decided to play the last level of Desert Island Escape. It seemed like a really big level, but I was making good progress. And then…it happened. The game froze. I try jiggling the controls, but nothing happened. After about five seconds of nothing, the game crashed. Not just Desert Island Escape, but New Leaf. My 3DS said it had to restart the whole system!

Of course, the worst part is that I didn’t save my game before starting Desert Island Escape. So I don’t have Inkwell’s pic any more!!! 😧

I re-bought the swinging bench, just in case it might work again. But I couldn’t get Inkwell to ask me for more furniture yet. Eventually, I gave Desert Island Escape another try, and I completed the final level. But that wasn’t much consolation after losing something I’ve been trying to get for 3.5 years. 😖

Today, Nintendo sent me a letter congratulating me on completing the advanced levels in Desert Island Escape, and another for completing all levels. Attached to the letters, I found an amiibo shelf and a good-luck charm. Even though the good-luck charm is a wall-mounted furniture item, it can be shown off like a fish or bug.

I pestered Inkwell again today, trying to get him to ask me for another favor. But no luck.

Anyway, I’m going to try to have one final Friday Night Forest before online play ends in April. It will likely be that first Friday in April, but check back in March for any final confirmation (or changes, if necessary). Update: It will probably be on March 29th.

According to Luna, my recent dream visitors were Max from Ezo and Maggie from Nimbus. Thanks for stopping by!
