Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog

Hello, and welcome to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog! I'm Jeff and here you can follow along with my adventures in the game. Unlike other Animal Crossing games, Happy Home Designer does not run in real-time. So each blog entry will usually cover multiple "game days." If you'd like, you can start from the beginning or just jump right in!

Day 14

With no Isabelle at the office today, I had to find my own customers. But that's not a bad thing. Even though I enjoy the public facilities and expanding the town, I was kind of burned out on them and ready to take a break from that. Just give me a regular house to design!

Rod, freshly recovered from a stay at the hospital, provided the cure for my designing blues. He wanted his house to resemble a pirate's hideout! I figured he needed to be near the sea, and you can't get closer to the sea than by living on an island!

Outside, I put an anchor, a ship cannon, a vintage telescope (to watch for other ships), a couple of barrels, and some palm trees.

Once I went inside, I found that Rod insisted on a ship cannon and vintage telescope in here too! I think they'd be more useful outside, but that's what he wants. Of course, I used a ship deck (floor) and a sea view (wall), to make this look and feel like a pirate ship. I noticed the new windows icon, which is a result of the "Windows and More" lesson I took yesterday. Not only can you choose the window style and curtains, but you can choose to remove the windows completely! Since a window here would ruin the illusion of it being on a pirate ship, I took them out.

As for furniture, I noticed there isn't a whole lot of pirate furniture. I didn't want to re-use the anchor, but I tried to include everything else in the set. Other than that, I wasn't sure what to use. I put in a toilet, a world map, and a couple of stools, as well as some fruit baskets to give the pirates something to eat. Rod was eager to try out the poop deck.

Rod was pleased with the project, saying I must be pretty tough to complete it. He suggested that we arm-wrestle sometime. Not until you wash your hands, pal. I then learned the delight emotion. Rod looked pretty delighted on that toilet, as if he just accomplished something.

Back at the office, I pulled out my handbook and took the "Sound Scenery" lesson for two Play Coins. This allows me to select sound effects for villagers' homes! The sound of the sea would have been nice for Rod's pirate ship! But this is a cool new option that will be fun to use in the future.

Day 15

I was surprised to see Isabelle back in the office today. She had some "great news" for me: She got the permits to build a bunch of new facilities in town. But I was just enjoying my break from them! Anyway, the new facilities I could build included a business office, a restaurant, a department store, or a shop of any type. There was also a request to expand the school. This is kind of overwhelming; I really wish the game would spread these out more.

So I just ignored her for today and went out onto Main Street. I found that Main Street itself has been expanded! I can now go down a ramp to see new buildings that I'll probably be furnishing soon.

My buddy Bob was out here, wanting a house with lots of flowers. But he has his priorities straight: Snacks come first.

I picked a location on the river, where it's springtime (cherry blossom petals are falling from the sky). I put in some pink trees, and of course, lots of flowers.

Inside, all three of Bob's required items were flowers. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised the game isn't using Bob to feature/unlock the kiddie furniture since that's usually his thing. So with no kiddie furniture, what exactly does Bob need? I gave him a bed, a chair, and of course a refrigerator. A lazy cat needs his snacks, after all.

I also tried out the sound scenery; some of the sound effects include rain, wind, cheering, city sounds, underwater sounds, train sounds, construction sounds, and so on. I decided to give Bob some jungle sounds. As I finished up, I learned the greetings emotion.

Before I ended my session for the night, I took out my handbook once again. For two Play Coins, I took the refurbishing lesson. A new toolbox icon will allow me to customize many furniture pieces! It's like hiring Cyrus at Re-Tail, without having to wait half an hour. A lot of options are opening up now, which is a good thing...although it's going to keep making these houses more and more time-consuming to design if you take advantage of everything.

Thanks for visiting! I'll see you next time!
