Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog

Hello, and welcome to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog! I'm Jeff and here you can follow along with my adventures in the game. Unlike other Animal Crossing games, Happy Home Designer does not run in real-time. So each blog entry will usually cover multiple "game days." If you'd like, you can start from the beginning or just jump right in!

Day 16

I spoke with Isabelle today and told her I'd build an office. It has two rooms that need to be designed, the main office and a meeting room. As for the main office, I couldn't help but to think of The Office. The TV show.

So I designed my office to resemble the layout of the show. Even though the doorway isn't in the right place, you can see Isabelle sitting at the reception desk, the water cooler across from her, and the desks of Jim and Dwight are nearby.

"Dunder Mifflin, this is Pam."
Here is a wider shot of the office, and a picture of the building's exterior:

As for the meeting room, it's also loosely based on The Office. I can imagine Michael Scott holding some sort of ridiculous meeting here, while Andy tries to remember the lyrics of the Kit Kat commercial. Break me off a piece of that football cream!

When I was done, I headed to my desk to check out the handbook. I took the Happy Home Camera lesson for one Play Coin. It lets me put the camera anywhere in the room so that I can take pictures exactly how I want them! Very cool!

Day 17

I was asked (in a comment) if previously designed homes could be uploaded to the Happy Home Network. I figured it was probably possible, so I gave it a try. I returned to Goldie's house, and I had to tell her I wanted to re-design her house. Even though I wasn't making any changes, I spoke to her again and told her I was done. I was then able to upload the house. If you'd like to visit it, the code is 0508-7741-338. Or you should be able to use this QR code.

After it uploaded, I closed the game without saving (on purpose) from the home menu. Since I didn't go to my desk and save my game, I thought the game would start me back at the beginning of Day 17. But instead, Lottie greeted me and told me it was closing time! The game saves after an upload, and even something as simple as uploading an existing house takes a full day of game time.

UPDATE: Thanks to a tip from Diana, I've learned that you can upload a house without returning to it for remodeling. From your client list, choose the villager and then click the computer icon at the bottom of the screen.

But since I didn't want to completely waste a day, I still made sure to study a lesson from the handbook. I chose the "World Insects" lesson, which cost me two Play Coins. I can now put insects into my clients' homes! I'm basically the opposite of an exterminator!

Day 18

I went outside to find a client today, and I ran into Apple. Not surprisingly, she wanted an apple-inspired room. I can understand the appeal.

I chose a wooded area for her home that had two ponds nearby. I put in several apple trees (of course) and also a couple of juicy-apple TVs facing backwards so that they resemble giant apples.

Indoors, I used the forest wall and kitschy tile. The polka-dot furniture set was freshly unlocked for Apple, so I used that, along with the more obvious apple-shaped items and apples themselves.

I learned the laughter emotion when I was done. During the montage, Apple was really into her TV program. She was probably watching the Food Network.

I finished up my day by taking in another lesson from the handbook. The "World Fish" lesson unlocked 102 types of fish and other sea creatures that I can add to future home designs.

Thank you for stopping by!
