Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog

Hello, and welcome to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog! I'm Jeff and here you can follow along with my adventures in the game. Unlike other Animal Crossing games, Happy Home Designer does not run in real-time. So each blog entry will usually cover multiple "game days." If you'd like, you can start from the beginning or just jump right in!

Day 21

Today, I decided to work on another public facility; I told Isabelle I would design a shop. I used the new white brick wall, but no carpeting was unlocked with this project. I decided to go with a charcoal tile for the flooring.

I got the impression this is meant to be a clothing shop (although you can really do anything you want), since many articles of clothing have been unlocked. I put a few outfits on display, and many more hanging on the wall. I also had stacks of clothes available for purchase. I put in a changing area and a mirror so customers can try on the clothes and see how they look. Some chairs are provided for people to wait while their friends try clothes on.

I uploaded my shop to the Happy Home Network, and the code to visit it is 0098-7799-374.

Back at the office, I read my handbook and took the Art Collection lesson. It allows me to use paintings and statues in my home designs.

Day 22

Before starting work today, I decided to scan in some QR codes of designs I've made in New Leaf. I've noticed that the QR code reader in Happy Home Designer seems to be slow and laggy compared to the one in New Leaf. Sometimes I think the game has locked up, but it does work as intended...even if it's a bit slow.

Once I was done with that, I went out onto Main Street. Mallary the duck wanted a home with purplish harvest furniture.

I picked out a location where it appeared to be autumn, since the harvest festival is a fall holiday (better known as Thanksgiving in the U.S.). I would have liked to put some pumpkins around her house, but I haven't unlocked any yet. Other than giving her a few trees and a harvest rug, all I did outdoors was put in a bunch of purple flowers.

Indoors, I used the full harvest set. A cornucopia was also unlocked, so I put that on the table along with three fruit baskets. When I was done, I learned the worry emotion. You can visit Mallary's home with the code 0792-7794-391.

I finished my day by studying the handbook. I chose the last remaining lesson on the list, "Choosing a Layout" for five Play Coins. I can now choose a floor plan to make rooms bigger or even increase the number of rooms! This opens up lots of possibilities, and it'll be very helpful for themes where it's tough to fit everything you want into a single regular-sized room.

Thanks for stopping by! See you next time!

So do you have to do it 3-4 days with each customer or just 1 animal

Love the shop and Harvest/Thanksgiving/Fall style house! And layouts are my thing xD This game is my thing! I need my new DS :P

Sioban · Oct 8, 2015

Forgot to say, the largest room I've unlocked is 8x12 with upstairs and basements of 6x6 each.

When I unlocked the choose a layout lesson, I learned it, but for some reason I can't get and upstairs or basement. Just a small back room. Any tips?

Rune · Oct 8, 2015

@Lewis, it only unlocks the main room and a smaller side room. This isn't like New Leaf where you get a whole mansion, just the villagers houses.

Siobhan · Oct 8, 2015

@Lewis, I couldn't figure this out either. I kept seeing people doing houses with big main rooms, basements and upstairs. I did a search online and finally found out that you have to go back to the villager another day and offer to build a new house, then ask for a bigger house when Lottie asks. You are then offered bigger floor plans. But to get the biggest rooms, you have to repeat this for about 3-4 days, continually asking for a bigger house. It's very time consuming, even if you just say you're done and save after each enlargement. And it's bad that there is nothing in the game itself to tell you that you need to do this. I wish we could just choose the larger room from the beginning of the request.

@Siobhan thanks for your help, I'll try that later
