Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog

Hello, and welcome to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog! I'm Jeff and here you can follow along with my adventures in the game. Unlike other Animal Crossing games, Happy Home Designer does not run in real-time. So some blog entries will cover multiple game days. If you'd like, you can start from the beginning or just jump right in! At the bottom of the page, you'll be able to find links to all of the entries. Or read my review.

Day 112

July is here, and so is a new monthly challenge. I checked the red computer on the first floor of the office building to connect to the Happy Home Network. This month's theme is "the journey home."

The required items are the new propeller plane and a UFO. The UFO is a repeat from the January challenge.

I tried to make the outdoors look like an airport, complete with a runway so Tom Nook can hopefully fly far, far away. The propeller plane's body can be customized to be blue (the default), red, orange, green, black, or white. The symbol on the wings can be leaves, hearts, a clothes fabric, or a custom design.

Since it's the Independence Day (4th of July) weekend here in America, I chose the red body (since it also has white and blue on it) and I used my United States flag for the pattern on the wings. (You can find the QR code for my flag here if you're interested). I also used it on the roof of Nook's house, along with red, white, and blue flowers in the yard.

An American themed propeller plane.

That left the UFO to be used indoors. The summit wall was unlocked with this project. Isn't it unusual for a wallpaper to be unlocked in a challenge? Still, I decided to use it, along with a daisy meadow carpet.

I surrounded the UFO with an armada of smaller flying saucers. As a peace offering, I offered a sacrifice to them: Tom Nook. They can take Nook, either to study him or to eat him, back to their own world. Fair deal?

Giving Tom Nook as a sacrifice to the aliens.

My sister has this game and I've been wanting her to do the hospital for quite a while now ,but she hasn't done it yet.

I wanted to ask two things about the game. Your blog has inspired me to get the game, and I've enjoyed the game so far. But here is my question: does villager text differ depending on how well you did their house? I don't want to reset the game to get a perfect house for each villager, so I'd like to know. And here is my other question: what has been your favorite house to design so far, or the one you're most proud of? Thanks!

Jeff (mod) · July 10, 2016

@Tristan from Big City: As far as I know, the text does not differ, because the game does not even attempt to judge your work. Even if you leave it completely bare other than the required items, they will love it.

My favorite? Wow, that's a hard question, but I know I enjoyed Genji's haunted house (Day 60), Tom Nook's Nook-n-Go (Day 56), and my clothing shop (Day 21). I also enjoyed recreating the office from The Office on Day 16. I'm probably forgetting something else too. If anyone else has some favorites, feel free to share them.

@Jeff: Oh, thanks for the answer. It would be nice you actually could move them in any direction though, because if you wanted to put a object(like that plane)it would be nice if you could actually turn it in the direction the runway was actually going. But anyways, thanks :)

Jeff (mod) · July 4, 2016

@Priya g: Yeah, I was thinking that too. It would have looked better if it was going straight instead of diagonally.

Priya g · July 4, 2016

Can you move the objects in any direction you want,or in the four regular directions that are in new leaf and the other animal crossings?Sorry,I don't have this game, but my sister does.

Jeff (mod) · July 4, 2016

@Priya g: You can use the touch screen to drag objects anywhere, including on half-spaces (which couldn't be done in earlier games). But the items can still only face one of four directions; you can't place them diagonally. I hope that answers your question.

I'm sure Tom Nook will be very helpful...and it's not like any of us will be sad to see him go :P Happy Independence Day!
